Q: i have a chev berretta, i pulled into my parking stall, and the check engine light came on. i immediately put the car in park and turned it off. i turned it back on and the light was off, but came on 10 seconds later. I left the car, and came back about 15 mins later and toook the car for a drive and the light never appeared at all!?one thing i did notice though, when you turn the car to the on position., right before the start. all the dashboard lights turn on, but the engine light STAYS on. and doesnt turn off till the car has been started. anyone have any ideas?: More than likely your light came on for a fuel system error. Namely the gas cap may not have been seated all the way causing an air leak. Since the light does not stay on now means that the error has not reoccurred. Check and make sure you cap is tight and turn it the recommended clicks that the cap or tag states. Usually 4-5 clicks. Take your vehicle to Advance Auto and have the trouble code checked. At your request you can have all codes cleared. The dash light will still light when you start the vehicle but will then turn off. This is normal.

Q: i have 1998 Saturn and the orange engine light is on and wont go off. i just got the oil changed so its not that and the engine cap is on tight i just checked. i am going to have it checked out as soon as possible but i need my car for work. what else can that light mean?: Some of the engine maintenance lights need to reset as the car gets service. Q: In addition when I first start it the idle is sometime too high and lowers after running for a few minutes. And sometimes it cuts off while I‘m driving either idle or accelerating. I start it back up and it runs. WHAT IS GOING ON WITH MY BABY?: There is no sensor for the radiator on this vehicle that turns the check engine light on. You do have a coolant level sensor but that turns on a separate light. It also does not have a Carburetor. Auto zone will not be able to scan your vehicle as it is a OBD 1 system and they only do ODB 2 systems. This vehicle is fuel injected and a 93 Buick could have a 3.1L or a 3.8L engine. You need to take the vehicle in to a repair facility to have them scan the vehicle or if you are not mechanically challenged you can buy a jumper tool and scan it your self. the tool will come with directions on how to jump the ALDL connector under the dash. Them you will need a book on your make model and year as GM codes are different for year and models made before 1996. After 1996 all codes and ALDL connectors are the same for each make and model. Getting the code still means you have to run the flow chart and do the repair. Just because you get a code you don't just replace the part. You need to confirm it is defective and not just working wrong because of some other component.

Q: I had the engine exhaust light come on after a sensor was replaced in the gas tank for the fuel gage. I was told by the dealer that the light comes on when it senses a leak. However, after doing a smoke test they couldn‘t find one. They told me that they turned the light off and now I am worried that they did not put the gas tank back properly. However, to be sure, take the car to a second auto-workshop and have the exhausted system thoroughly inspected (Should be low cost). Q: 2003 Nissan 350z..... i bought it used, and put a new sound system inside of it.... now all of a sudden, the sound system will not work, and my entire air system has stopped: Check engine light and the sound system may be unrelated. Also I'm not sure what you mean by air system (air suspension or AC?). For the check engine light you first have to get the engine diagnostic code scanned to know what it mean. You can get that done at many auto parts dealer (autozone). You can also get a scanner as cheap as $50 at sears (on sale). As for the sound system, take it back to the radio installer. If they did an amateurish job the wires could have shaken loose (or worse yet caused a short that cause the check engine light - unlikely). Good Luck...
