Q: This morning when i drove my car about 1 mile the check engine light came up i am sure when i start my car in morning there was no light but i just came up after driving one mile so i went to auto zone and they told me code is P0440 which is evaporative emission system but my question is it could be my gas cap or i have big problem in my fuel system because i checked all hoses its not cracked or leaking i recently got new radiator and he check every thing hoses and etc. One thing i noticed before like one month ago the gas cap was loose so i tight it and then before going to auto zone i checked gas cap it was loose so i tight it but check engine light didn‘t went. Go to your local auto parts store and buy new brake rotors yourself at $20 a piece ($40 for 2). If you can change this yourself, that would be ideal. Just jack up your car onto jackstands, remove the wheel, remove the caliper, the caliper mount, and the old brake rotor. Otherwise, bring it to a trusted shop and watch them put in your brake rotors. Mark it with a fat red marker on the surface if you have to. Also, have them use new screws to tighten the new brake rotors onto the hub. If this resolves your problem, look into getting a refund for the brake rotors you purchased.and consider never going there again for repairs - learn how to fix it yourself. Good luck!

Q: I have, from the day of installation, my check engine light has been on . Today I had the interlock removed and not 30 minuted later my car started stuttering. I live 30 plus miles that the car had to be driven 35mph in a 65mph speed limit the entire time. When exiting off the highway the power steering went scaring my 74 year old mother. We made to Advance Auto were they checked the car and determined that the transmission solenoid was bad. After researching I see where the transmission contol unit has something to do with retarding igniton timing. Now, I am no mechanic, but I have believe this is how they are connecting the interlock/ I realize that DWI is the reason for having this system in the first place, but, does getting DWI mean you have to accept someone damaging your vehicle, costing big money to fix, and time without the vehicle, not mention the fact the whole incident could have caused a wreck, because of the vehicle malfunction.: Its very possible but its only wired to the vehicle’s ignition system from the ones that I have seen and the installers from what I read are certified but at the same time they may have either connected the unit to the wrong power source or disconnected something and you need to have a professional auto repair shop look into this and if they find that it was installed incorrectly have them document this so that you can go back to the company and request a full reimbursement

Q: My dad and I are replacing the engine in a golf cart with a bigger one from a snowmobile. The mechanics of the whole operation are taken care of, but we are not sure about the electrical system. the old engine used a starter generator to start and generate power for the lights and such, but the snowmobile engine has a standard starter motor and an alternator built in. We have no idea what kind of system it used for charging the battery. We have the regulator from the old engine and are wondering if we can use this. It is an old mechanical style one with three connections. D+, D-, and DF. Can we use a full wave bridge rectifier to convert the AC from the alternator into DC and then smooth it out with a capacitor and run that power into the old regulator? I‘m not sure how to connect the regulator as we accidentally removed it before taking note of how it was connected. Basically I want it to be able to run the carts lights and recharge the battery after starting.: These labels mean Dynamo +, Dynamo - and Dynamo field. The plus and minus are the auxiliary output just for the regulator if there is a B+ on the alternator. The field is fed from the regulator, and this is the smaller wire or connection usually. The link below shows the connections. The ignition/charge warning light is necessary to get the alternator started. The wire from B+ to the battery handles the full output current of the alternator. The regulator connections are all 10A automotive wire. The minus side of the battery is grounded at the engine body and this carries the full starter motor current. It is possible there is another ground connection for the lights etc. This goes to the battery negative. There must be a connection between the battery and the alternator frame that can carry the full alternator output. This may be the engine body through the starter motor ground. Some alternators have the regulator built in to the brush holders. The old mechanical regulator will only work if both are thesame voltage, like 12V. If in doubt you can always get an auto electrician to do it. Do the wiring as you think and get them to fix it, so the labour is less.
