Q: the Service engine soon light came on my 1998 Chevy Monte Carlo. I can always at least in the past been able to know when something is wrong with my car. Nothing appears to be wrong that I can sense. I‘m a little concerned.: 1 Dissconnect the positive battery cable from the battery for 5 min. - This will clear and reset the computer in your vehicle sending it back to original. #2 After the start of #1 tighten Gas cap #3 reconnect battery cable run vehice - At this point no service light should appear. If it is back on or appears a short time later then take it to a local auto parts store that will scan the computer. Some places charge - so call around - Autozone scans for free. Beware of being sold if you get multipule codes. One at a time. - good luck

Q: Bought a pontiac torrent about 5 days ago from a dealership. Yesterday, it completely went dead. The car wouldn't start, and the key got stuck. It was not turning over at first, but the lights were still coming on and flashing, then an hour later went to start it, again, and nothing. Not even the lights were coming on. The day before it was saying 'service stabilitrak' 'service traction control' and 'service battery charger' or something along the lines.My Dad took the battery to go get it checked and it read a bad battery, so I paid to get a new one. The vehicle will start, now, but halfway to my dad's house after driving it (12 miles), the 'battery charging system' light came on, again! This is so frustrating, the dealership is no help, I use this vehicle for my son/work, etc. I don't want to take it to a shop because they all charge high dollar around here, and they never do a good job. Q: In addition when I first start it the idle is sometime too high and lowers after running for a few minutes. And sometimes it cuts off while I‘m driving either idle or accelerating. I start it back up and it runs. WHAT IS GOING ON WITH MY BABY?: The radiator has a sensor attached to it. When the new one was installed the sensor was either not connected or connected wrong. Have it serviced. As for your idle - the timing is of on the carburetor. Have the car serviced.

Q: Anyone have a list? What if the AC/Heating does not work?: i have mixed feelings on anti-lock brakes. while they are useful for the average driver who doesnt understand vehicle dynamics, and doesnt understand how to use threshold braking under all conditions, they are a detriment to those of us who do take pride in driving, and are more than capable of stopping in low traction conditions without the use of computer controls. thus i would have to answer i do not like anti-lock brakes.

You need to go to auto-zone or oriellys and have them pull the codes for free. Ones you know what fault codes there are, then you can actually fix the problem. It's probably an oxygen sensor fault of some type, since it takes 3 hours to come back. Could also be an intermittent engine miss, or it's related to the fuel tank evap system. Go get the codes, then you will know what to fix.

Q: i went to auto zone and they checked it for me and told me the code was obd II PO442 they told me all i had to do was change the gas cap, boy were they full of it, can anyone tell me what could be wronge, Thanks: A gas cap that doesent seal will set this code, but so Will any sort of pressure loss in the gas tank or related components that have to do with preventing vapors from escaping to atmosphere. The best thing to do is to have a dealer run a smoke test on the evap control system,to exactly pinpoint leak.

Q: My truck was totaled, but no one was hurt. It has been 3 weeks since the accident and I have no vehicle. I have a copy of the police report that states that the other vehicle disregarded the red light and struck me. My insurance company has all ready came to their decision and found the other party fully at fault. So I had filed with the other parties insurance. Their response to my claim is that they feel that there are conflicting stories and that the police officer on the scene didn‘t take down a name of a witness.So they feel that I am entitled to only half of what they first appraised all my damages/costs to be. I feel that it is their legal obligation to pay in full the reasonable costs including loss of vehicle, impound costs, and any other fees. I keep getting the run around with that insurance company and need advice.: I see you have no name for the person at fault in your accident i have an idea for you. Go get your police report and see if the police officer wrote down the License plate number. Then if its legal in your area, take your police report to the local police station personally and have them run the plate number through the system database. I would ask to talk to someone first though preferably an investigator not a street officer they wont give you want you are looking for. The Investigator will run the plate number and if you a name. Ask him if possible to talk to your insurance provider for you.
