Q: The light disappears spontaneously after 1 seconds. The car drives ok afterwards. The oil level looks fine on dipstick, and I have one bar left on the auto oil change indicator. Q: My friend just bought a used 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix. He has already spend a small fortune fixing the car up and now the engine light is constantly on. He was told that is has something to do with the PCM. Also, when he first bought it, the digital light on the winshield was working and now that is out too. Is there something He can do to fix this PCM and have the engine light stop coming on??: Take the car to Advance Auto Parts or Autozone. They have the code scanner there that you simply plug in and it reads the codes. The scanner will tell you the code and what the fault is. The service engine light is primarily for the emission control system. If it is not a major problem you can use the scanner to delete the code and the light will go off. My Pontiac does that from time to time giving an oxygen sensor fault- so I go to Advance and turn it off. Since they have added more ethanol to gasoline that causes oxygen sensors to go out more frequently- at least that is what I have heard. I'm sure if your friend doesn't know how the use the code scanner one of the store workers will gladly show him how to use it.

Q: The other day my car suddenly stalled out when I was waiting to pull into a parking space and it wouldn‘t start again and had to get a jump start. Q: i wen to advanced auto parts today because the check engine light on my 2002 nissan sentra has been on for a while, they did a check and told me that i had an evap leak and that i would have to take it to a mechanic so that he can run smoke through it and find out where the leak is. how much does this usually cost (i mean for them to use their machine to find the leak and then to fix it): I also have an EVAP leak. I was told it could be a variety of causes. 1. Loose gas cap- this is the cheapest fix and worth trying first. 2. EVAP Canister broke, hose cracked 3. Purge or vent solenoid defective 4. Vacuum leak at engine. I am interested in understanding the cost as well.

Q: I just bought a 01 Volvo s60 and i got check engine light on it after one month it says emission system service required and when I went to the auto zone they told me that I need to change the fuel cap and I ordered an original one online and I released the check engine light but I got it again after a week; I use unleaded fuel instead of the required premium fuel, is that can be the reason for this check engine light?: you still could have a fault in the emission system/fuel tank leakage detection for fuel vapors. my guess is a cracked hose going from the charcoal filter to the control valve near it. the hose looks like a big J. the crack can be near the J portion, sometimes on the top, where you need a small mirror to find it, close to the clamp on the charcoal canister. it's a bother the replace the hose, but these things can happen.

Q: Mechanic turned it off using a tool- said it was an old crash sensor code but it came back on the next day. He couldn‘t trouble shoot it any further- only option on his tool was to turn it off.
