It'll probably cost you way more than the cost of buying a similar bike new. Maybe even double. If you were to add up all the part costs on any bike it would probably be able 4 times what the bike costs. Getting it registered for road use is a hassle too. Getting it insured will be damned near impossible. Why is it you want to build the bike as opposed to buying one?
Q: Is there a big name company who should check out my bike (2008 kawasaki ninja 250r) for safety or should i just look in the yellow pages for like a motorcycle repair shop or something. I bought it used and it was only owned for about 6 months but the owner didnt ride it often so I have been riding it for about 3 months now and recently I have heard a light squeking/schreaching sound while I am braking or coming to a stop. Sounds like maybe your pads (Brake) are going out. Don't call one bike shop in the book, call and visit as many as you need to, until you find one you feel comfortable with. You need to treat this like a relationship because if you don't work on your own bike, that's exactly what it is. Don't fall for the easy answers that you want to hear, listen for things that make sense. These people are running a business. You want to be treated fairly. You need to be good at holding off saying, Well the other guys said. Shops that give a lot of free information (Towing, bike events, legal flyer's, for sale billboards, etc), are usually the fairer ones. Since you don't mention where you're at, we can't help you out with personal experience.
Q: I disassembled and cleaned my brakes with a brake cleaner because one piston wasn‘t retracting and the brake was dragging. I just need to know what kind of grease or lub to use on the pistons. Hyosung GT250R.
Do not use anything other than brake fluid. Make sure the piston and bore are clean. Ever wonder what makes the piston retract? As it moves forward during braking it slides through the O ring seal causing it to twist . Upon release of the brake lever/pedal the O ring un twists and forces the piston back into the cylinder. This requires friction between the O ring and the piston. You can see why lubricants would be a bad idea. Good luck.
Q: i need a sensor/transducer to detect speed when a motorcycle braking system is being applied. can a rotary encoder suit this application? how?
A metal sheet cut into a complex pattern is affixed to an insulating disc, which is rigidly fixed to the shaft. A row of sliding contacts is fixed to a stationary object so that each contact wipes against the metal sheet at a different distance from the shaft. As the disc rotates with the shaft, some of the contacts touch metal, while others fall in the gaps where the metal has been cut out. The metal sheet is connected to a source of electric current, and each contact is connected to a separate electrical sensor. The metal pattern is designed so that each possible position of the axle creates a unique binary code in which some of the contacts are connected to the current source (i.e. switched on) and others are not (i.e. switched off).
