Q:I have a 2005 Dodge Durango and had problems with stalling. I took it into the dealer with warranty on it. They said the ECG Valve is busted and its unsafe to drive. Can you guys tell me what the function of this part is?
Here is a link dealing with the ECG (Engine Control Group). www.iau.dtu.dk/~eh/ecg_proj.html
Q:why is a biological valve replacement weak? in the way it does not last much longer that ten years?why do blood clots form with a mechanical valve replacement?what kind of bleeding problem can the anticoagulant medication cause?if you know the answer to any of these questions (doesnt hav to be all of them) plz answer!! thank you :p
Blood clots can form with ANY type of surgery or disease that interrupts the natural flow of blood. Anticoagulants do not cause a bleeding problem, they keep the blood from clotting if that is what you mean. People who take them have to have an INR checked (clotting time) to make sure that the blood is not too thin. It is a delicate balance. One must be careful on this medication when having any kind of surgery (usually have to stop the medication a week before and a stay off it a few days after according to their doctor's order) because it could cause them to hemorrhage.
Q:I have several stations in my automatic lawn sprinkler system. Each station has a valve that contains: 1. Manual Shutoff, 2. Flow Control Knob, 3. Solonid, 4. Anti-Siphon valve. Any way my question is this, Why does water continue to flow even when the manual shutoff is turned off and the flow control is also turned off?
Any manual shutoff should shut the zone down completely, a flow control will limit the volume of water that leaves the valve by resticting the valve diaphram movement. If neither is working they may not be operational. A zone that continually runs either has a plunger stuck in the solenoid, a ruptured diaphram in the valve, or debris between the diaphram and valve body. If all these are contained in the valve, the most likely cause would be a bad diaphram or debris keeping the valve from closing completely
Q:i have a 1970 chevy sb 350 and i need to set the valve lash what is the proper method and where do i start? everything is stock!
Just read this again last light. The motor should be hot an normalized before you start. With one valve cover off clean the cylinder head of all old cork gasket residue lay a new gasket on the head and screw the valve cover bolts through the gasket into the head a few threads. There are companies who sell neat little clips that slide on the push-rod end of the rocker arm to reduce the leakage of oil from the push-rods through the ends of the rocker arms. We're going to hear all sorts of whining and disagreement here but Chevrolet hydraulic valve lifters must be adjusted with the engine running. It's written in a factory overhaul book. The oil pressure from the oil pump has to adequately pump-up the hydraulic valve lifters so you can get proper adjustment. Using 3/8 a deep well socket and a long extension, loosen counter clockwise the center rocker-arm nut slowly till you hear the rocker arm clatter. There's two trains of thought how and why the center not should be adjusted. GM says to *very slowly turn the center nut till the clatter disappears. Slowely continue turning the center nut 3/4 more turn clockwise. William Tyler Grumpy Jenkins (Chevrolet race engine builder) always said to turn the center nut to stop the clatter plus 1/8 of a turn more. He did this so the plungers inside the lifters were extended nearly all the way out. This was done to reduce hydraulic lifter pump-up and valve float at high RPM. For the detractors who don't think this is correct, pull the valve covers off a 265, 283, 327 or a 350 with hydraulic lifters after the engine has been off for 30 minutes. You will see every rocker arm is holding the valves in the closed position. It's impossible to adjust the valves with the engine off.
Q:We have a 2008 grizzly 700...Lately when we run the 4-wheeler there is a ticking like noise (as is something were loose). I have been told by a few people that it sounds like the valves need adjusting. Does that sound like what it is? Will it cause any damage to the 4-wheeler if we ride it before we get a chance to adjust the valves?
They are correct. Well almost. The Rockers are what can be adjusted. They are too far away from the valve and are starting to hammer on them instead of just moving them. You will not cause immediate damage by riding it but you could wear out the rocker completely and drop a valve into the engine which would be very costly. Best to get it repaired soon. Make sure they install new rockers and springs. The main cause for this is poor oil maintenance or poor grade of oil being used. Always use a GOOD synthetic oil and your motor will last 10 times as long
Q:My third valve is always sticking, despite the fact that I oil them thoroughly every other day. It scrapes the sides of the case when I take it out/put it in, it's almost as if the valve is too big for it. Often times it will stick and I'll have to unscrew it and physically pull it out for it to be functional again.I've inspected it, and the inside looks just like the others which are fine. I've tried washing it, oiling it, and putting a trace amount of vaseline on it. What is the problem?
Check the spring and plastic valve guide on top of the spring. I've seen these stick and the results are quite annoying, but once the spring moves up and down freely, so will the valve.
Q:The hot water shutoff valve to the washing machine was dripping. I removed the packing nut and put in new packing over the weekend. Problem is that the packing nut seems to only go back on at an angle no matter what I do...it may have already been that way though. The valve isn't currently dripping, but I'm not liking the way the packing nut only goes on at an angle. Would it be crazy to keep the existing valve if I keep an eye on it and over time it doesn't drip, or is it too risky to keep this valve given that the packing nut is on at a funny angle? (Local plumbers here in Northern NJ all want around $350 if I were to replace both the hot and cold with a watts single handle valve.) Thanks, J.
I would do a little more trying to get the nut on straight. Turn it counter-clockwise until it drops a little bit. Then turn it clockwise. Question to ask yourself is, how long will it take you to get to the main house shutoff valve if the nut lets go? You should be able to replace just the one faucet for less than $10.
Q:Could my subs kill my EGR valve? I replaced my O2 sensor and my check engine light didn't go off. So I had it checked again and the same problem was still there. It said that all the cylinders were running either rich or lean..... I can't remember. But I was told it could be the EGR Valve so I replaced it and for about a week the check engine light was off.Now its back on. Had it checked again and the same deal was going on. Oh there was also a low voltage reading..... which is why I'm thinking its my subs.So could it be my subs that keeps killing my EGR valve? And any solutions will be helpful. I don't want to have to replace my alternator because its in an extremely tough place to reach. And I already have a small Cap.... .5. My subs handle 600 RMS total. WOuld getting a bigger Cap help?
next time state year/make/model/mileage. most egr valves operate via vacuum. your subs can't affect a vacuum operated egr valve. if the o2 sensor didn't help out, you probably have a bad vacuum hose somewhere. that will cause the system to go into havoc because the car computer can't compensate for the excessive air being sucked in. a cap does not help with anything except for a loud THUMP. the THUMP causes a voltage spike and stresses the charging system. the cap takes care of the thump safer, it's not a complete solution.
Q:I have a shut off valve under the sink that leaks when you try to turn it OFF. Why is that?I need to fix faucet leak as well. do i need to shut water off to fix faucet? Need to fix valve first. Cant figure out why valve leaks when turning off.
Mr. ? is powerful. replace the close-off valve. the place I stay there's an excellent style of limescale interior the water so shutoff valves purely get gunked up over the years and in lots of situations leak everytime you mess with them. each time I replace or fix a rest room or faucet I purely plan on changing the close-off valve on the comparable time -- a great way much less difficulty than getting the recent merchandise put in and then having to circulate back and take issues aside to swap the leaking valve. I additionally replace the feeder hose connecting the bathroom or faucet too, constantly with the braided stainless style. i could fairly be attentive to I even have put in new factors than have the previous one fail at inconvenient situations and reason injury to the residing house.
Q:this valve used in the refinery.
This is a 'Trip and Throttle' (T T) valve that is maintained in a 'Fully Open' postion during normal turbine operation. It is maintained open by a Hydraulic Control system that, should any of many shutdown conditions occur, the hydraulic oil will be dumped to its reservoir by the operation of a Solenoid valve, actuated by the shutdown signal, and the T T valve will immediately close, stopping the steam flow to the turbine speed control steam chest in a safe manner. The valve handwheel is then operated to ensure that the valve remains fully closed until the system is ready for re-start. The valve cannot be opened again until the shutdown condition has been rectified and the hydraulic system reset to restore the oil pressure to the valve. The valve however, can then only be re-opened manually and slowly until the turbine is brought to the 'Minimum Speed Control' Governor setting. When settled down at this condition and the steam chest valves are under the control of the Governor, the T T valve is swung wide open. This latches the valve in the fully open position until another shut down occurs,
