WHY don't we have a car right now in 2010 that gets 100+ mpg?Ok we have the Honda Insight and Toyota Prius that get 50MPG+ WELL why not DOUBLE or TRIPLE or QUADRUPLE the Batteries and get 100MPG??? Seriously WHY NOT PACK Enough Lithium Ion batteries in there to get 300MPG?? You mean to tell me that with all the technology we have today in 2010 that we can't come up with a Hybrid that gets 100MPG??? PURE NonsenseSomeone somewhere is keeping the 100MPG car from being produced. Simple as that. You mean to tell me that you can't pack enough Lithium Ion batteries into a CAR to get 100MPG??? Yea right. You know it could be done. BIG OIL and other political forces DON'T WANT the 100MPG car. Why did gas prices go to $4.50 per gallon??? TO get the $$$ While the Getting was good. Now the gig is up and they know it.
- Lithium ion batteries are a good source of energy storage, but they have some very serious drawbacks: If they are shorted they can go into melt-down and start a fire, and that's the small ones the size of a quarter. Think what could happen after a car wreck - You could start a block leveling fire. There will have to be a better battery design before the electric car becomes viable.
- Q: Hi. I'm thinking about getting a Kubota Diesel Generator. I have read in many places that the Kubota Diesel engine is the gold standard of Diesel engines. So I'm not worried about that. What i need to know is this, is the generator as a whole dependable? Will over loading it for a few short seconds when the AC compressor kicks in burn it out or shorten its life?Any other insight would be appreciated.Thanks for your answers
- Kubota diesel plants are being used more and more in industry, replacing some of the old standbys like Kohler, Perkins and even Caterpillar in lighter applications. I don't think you will regret buying a Kubota.
- Q: I need a means of driving a 3 horsepower induction motor re-purposed as an induction generator which would coincide with specific cost-effective parameters. I ran the numbers in an excel spreadsheet and realized that the amount of gasoline or diesel required to run an engine appropriate for a 3 horsepower generator consumes more fuel per hour than is economical when the electricity is sold back on the grid. Over a month period, here's what I calculated:Run time in Hrs: 300.00 (10hrs a day, 30 days)Gallons per hour: .30 (1/3rd gallon per hour avg. consumption for 5hp engine)AVG output KW: 2.00 (3 horsepower generator)Fuel in gallons: 90.00 Price of fuel $/gal: 3.50Kilowatt-Hrs: 600.00Energy Cost: .08Net Profit: -270.00I've considered using a pressure cooker, wood pellet stove, and compressor pump as steam engine for an economical way to produce long-term torque, but am not sure how to modify the pump to operate as a steam engine. - If you are serious about selling power to your utility; ask if they will accept inverter output. If so, an inverter can lock phase with fairly simple circuitry. Using HD diode isolation simplfies voltage matching. You would be wiser to generate low voltage DC from solar panels or a wind turbine. (Noise and pollution free.) Talk to a utility rep first to learn their requirements.

- Q: Hi, i have a peugeot diesel conected to an 8kw alternator via a lay shaft engine 2275rpm alt 1500rpm at 2250rpm engine produces max torque 70lb ft, alt should only need 33lb ft. under heavy load engine allmost stalls. I think i need avr control? Can you help with advice and componants? Many thanks Andre
- You have to set up a speed control of some sort. There are electronic versions out there that run off the frequency of the alternator. They are not cheap. It is surprising just how much power is required to produce your desired electrical output. I have a large diesel direct coupled to a four pole alt.with mechanical speed control also for 1500 rpm for 50Hz 240V and have also found a little issue when welding with it. If the governor is set for the load it can over rev a bit - if set to be perfect without load it struggles to get back up to 230V if welding at 120A plus. It's been easier to live with it in the end. If you are stalling out you will have to do something about a reliable speed control - check out the quality alternative energy companies that actually install RAP systems and ask about the control setups they can provide for exactly your situation. Keep looking because there are systems that will fix your problem, and give you a very useful machine! Good luck.

- Q: I have a bunch of old diesel left over from y2k, a family friend stored 10k gallons and its turned a brown color, it dosent small funny at least to me, still looks red if you put it up to the light but it is not vivid red like it used to be it has a dingy brown color. It was originally RED diesel.Im afraid to run this in my generator, is there any additive I can add to clean it up or fix it that you have PERSONAL experience with.?

Third check the fuel filter, change once a year if not used because of bad / old fuel. Forth Check the out put of the engine / voltage / oil pressure / amperage / operating temperature / current fuses / transfer switches are working properly. Listen and make sure the engine is running smooth, no misses. Should be good to go then.
- Q: Aside from the fact that they just had a massive natural disaster and there resources are stretched to say the least, what is main reason they cant get the reactor under control?From what I've heard it's not receiving enough power to maintain cooling system so it can maintain controlled fission.In my limited understanding it seems the plant survived relatively unscathed other than there diesel generators being flooded/destroyed. The plant is currently on battery backup's which I assume are relatively large and cant just be switched out to maintain the cooling system. Is it just an issue of supplying enough power for the cooling system? Couldn't they park the the USS Ronald Reagan off shore there and borrow some power until stabilized, considering you could power a sizable city off its reactor?
