- Q: I have put together a 4 cylinder peugeot diesel and an 8 kw alternator.At first it was direct coupled to run at 1500 rpm but didn't have enough grunt when i struck an arc with my mig welder. I then put in a lay shaft the engine runs at 2275rpm alternator at 1500rpm. same problem engine allmost stalls under heavy load. At this speed the engine is producing max torque 70 lb ft the alt should only need 33 lb ft. pls help

- First question is can you get fuel like coal or gas? If something like that is possible you might want to look into either trying to build or buy a small gas generator or a steam piston that you could then use to generate electricity. Otherwise water, wind or solar is your best bet. Solar probably won't work to well unless you can afford to buy panels, making them isn't really an option. Look into wind, but hydro power especially wouldn't be that hard.

Edit: Don't know what's happened to all the photos that were on that site, but at least you can google the names and model numbers of the engines mentioned. The diesel genny idea probably wouldn't work, because that motor would be designed to run at a constant speed for hours on end, not continuously varying throttle openings as you would get in a road situation.

- Does the Esab welder have high frequency? If so the high freq. is feeding back into the generator and frying the electronics. You may need to have the generators repaired. The only way to prevent damage is to turn the high freq. off, or drive an earth ground as close to the welder as possible and you have to run a wire to your grounding clamp to this ground and the machine ground needs to go to this also. You have to get the high freq. out of the circuit as quick as possible. (I have a Hobart Champion Fabshop that is notorious for this.)

- Q: I have an old generator that the motor doesn't run. I want to salvage the generator head and make something like a wind, steam, or bio diesel generator I haven't made my mind up yet. - Q: Hello, I am putting an HHO generator, which is metal plates in water in pvc pipe, into my small pickup truck. I am having a bit of trouble finding an EFIE unit though, which is the boy that goes in line in front of the 02 sensor, to give it a bit more juice and stop it from dumping more gas in when it thinks there is not enough air (but way too much HHO) in the system.Are there any automotive forums that you all would direct me to? And if not, are there any manufacturers of finished EFIE units, or even kits to build them, on the internet or elsewhere for me to utilize?I want to get this done before I leave for college. Gas prices suck!
