- I'm assuming by trip you mean shut down/off Plenty of reasons: 1) overheat, most common cause, could be lost water pump or water supply or cooling lines plugged 2) electrical, although diesel does not use sparkplugs there are electrical components. There are glow plugs that get the whole process started when cold, there is a starter motor that gets it all going and there is some method to keep the fuel warm enough to flow correctly 3) Starve for fuel, either fuel ran out, to low temp so its sludge 4) Loss of oil pressure that is used for lubrication 5) Ouput limits, there will be an overcurrent/overvoltage system regulating the output of he generator and if it gets really out of wack then it will kill the whole thing to prevent damage to everything That's all I can think of right now

- Q: I own a Chinese made diesel generator. 10HP, 5kW, which recently stopped putting out power. The generator head has three separate power outputs; 120VAC (#1) 120VAC (#2) and 12VDC for battery charging. All three ceased output simultaneously. I've tried re-exciting or flashing the alternator, which didn't do anything other than make it knock when it generated a magnetic field.I've been told my voltage regulator may have failed, but I have no knowledge of how the AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulator) on the high-voltage side may work to verify.Ideas? Thanks!
- Some have safety fuses or circuit breakers to safeguard Voltage spikes. Check also for a switch which enables the generator once the deisel moter has been started. This link may help as well
- Q: Hi. I'm thinking about getting a 15KVA Cummins generator.I want to know how many hours can I run a Diesel Generator before I have to give it a rest? How many hours do I need to rest it before I can get it started again. I live in a hot and dusty area.I have heard that Diesel engines are happier if they are just kept running and they hate being turned off and on, is that true?Any help or insight would be appreciated.Greetings from Iran
- you need to read the documentation. No such thing as a diesel that runs forever All engines need fluids checked. In generators, there is prime power and standby power. Your warranty will be different for each type. The prime units can run for very long times, but are more expensive and have oil adding systems, etc to automoatically maintain levels and things like that. The diesel engine can be shhutdown and restartted like a gas engine. The turbo and starter motor are the real reasons for not doing short starts and stops. Also, how much load/environment you put on the generator makes a difference in how long it can run too. They can run for a long time as long as they are checked and maintained.
- Q: I really need to know to know this.@ two days old. my baby was subjected to a high level of diesel fumes coming in from the hospital vents. Due to testing of generators and backed up through vent. she was in the room roughly 30 minutes what kinda damage should I be concerned about. should I be concerned? how long would it stay in lungs and the blood? please if you know.thanks
- It depends on the size of the room and how quickly diesel fumes are being added. The gas would not say long in the blood and lungs although the damage would still be evident to a doctor doing a thorough exam. The two greatest concerns for you would be brain damage due to a lack of oxygen. Essentially when you're breathing in any kinds of fumes you are depriving your brain of oxygen while also subjecting your body to whatever poisons are in the fumes themselves. The second area of concern would be lung damage. The tissues would suffer as some of the fumes you are talking about could have an acidic component and could burn the lungs to some degree. Have your baby examined by a doctor and tell him your concerns.

- a 7kva generator isnt even that quiet. i know they say quiet but theres only so much you can do. why do you need a generator anyways? and yeah it probably would disturb the people in your apartment.
- Q: I recently seperated the generator from the engine and replaced the rear main oil seal on the engine the electric generator was only moved back about 16-18 inches to access rear main seal. job went well with no problems after completeing job I turned down rpms to about 1000 rpm It was put back in service They use it to power up refer containers from the harbor. the next day I check it and they had turned up rpms to ??? as fast as it would run and 12 refer units running off it oh it's 480 volt well it ran for a week non stop and broke down and of corse it was my fault all i did was unbolt drive plate on front of rotor from flywheel of engine .est to repair is 6,000 could this be my fault after it ran for a week or caused from hi rpms and heat related possibley
- A little more information would be helpful as to the size and model of generator. Is it possible the repair shop could give you more detailed explanation as to exactly what they believe happened? Is this a single bearing or two bearing generator? If it has only one bearing and the shaft is supported by the engine flywheel on the engine end, then the postion and shimming of the engine and generator may be critical to keep the rotor centered between the stator poles. These clearances are very small and they could have been rubbing if not aligned. On small single bearing types, the housings are made to fit together in perfect alignment, and can not be misaligned to avoid this problem. On larger units, this matched housing arrangement may not be possible. A generator with a bearing at each end of it's shaft is less likely to have this problem of rotor alingment, It would have a problem with coupling or bearing failures if not properly aligned with the engine.
