Scope of Application

Q:I used to have my TV outputting volume from my xbox360, but I installed speakers with a woofer. I hooked the red and white audio cables straight to the speakers. My remote still controls my TV's audio. How can I set it up to increase/decrease the audio coming out of the red and white component cables so that I dont have to get up and turn the volume up and down manually?: You'll need to hook all the cables up to the TV. (including audio) Then run a red and white cable from your TV's 'audio out' to the speakers or stereo. (This is of course considering your TV has audio out ports) The media remote will only control the TV volume. Setting it through the audio out will allow you to control the volume through all speakers.

Q:Comcast is making me 'upgrade' from analog to digital cable service. I received the boxes and set them up today. The only problem I have is getting my VHS to record shows correctly. As of now, I can only record the channel that my new 'tuner box' is tuned to. In the past I was able to record one channel, and watch another, or record two different shows on two different channels while I was out of town.I talked to the person at comcast, and they said I would need a DVR or something else to regain this functionality. Any suggestions, without my recording I'm lost!: The bottom line is you need their box still, for it controls the channel changing (they are really basic cable boxes essentially). You need to pre-change the channel, or get a system which changes the channel on the box. Whatever recorder you get also needs an analog tuner, since those boxes provide only an analog RF out. To record one channel and watch another requires two boxes, one to watch direct, the other to to record from. For recorders, you can get a DVD recorder with a tuner, or a tunerless DVD recorder and a cable box with A/V out. A computer based DVR is also an option. You may prefer to get a standalone PC for that though, and a Windows bases one is probably best.

Q:for my cable box from comcast. but i know comcast must have a million of these basic dvr boxes for use.: When you do the SlingSetUp it should ask you put in the model number of your cable box, and from this it should automatically get the correct remote control. It does not have to look exactly the same though, it will still work perfectly fine if the remote looks different. It is just to help you know how to use the remote easily, all basic functions should be the same though.

Q:i was wondering if i can connect two computers through a network using a network cable? just plug them in on the ethernet inputs on my computers to connect them together. and would it work if my computer is windows xp and the other computer is windows 98. thanks: No i have tried that. It doesnt work. It will just keep on trying to get the netowork adress. What i think you could do is use one of the computers as a router and then have the other connect via ethernet cable and then computer 2 has internet.,but iam quite sure this wont work.

Q:I want to watch my basic cable stations from my desktop pc using windows media player windows 7.I hooked up my ati tv wonder 650 card and did the configurations needed. Once the system scans the tv channels it comes back with local channels only.I entered the configs manually and put in Cable-No box-Time Warner Northeast Ohio- scans with local 3,5,8,19,25 wviz. It then says that time warner cleveland detected.How do i get the cable channels? I have the cable line hooked directly into the card. Can someone tell me what a good card will do this? I would say it would be very rare for cable companies to broadcast cable channels in the clear so they can be picked up by anyone for free. My cable company doesn't even broadcast the free local channels in the clear, only music and radio stations. By the way, in order to receive cable channels on your media center you need to use either one of two methods. A) Using a cable-card tuner and obtaining a cable-card from your cable company. An authorized cable-card allows you to access and decrypt cable channels on a third-party device like a media center. B) Using a tuner/capture card with an analog input and an IR blaster. The TV set-top box video output connects to the capture card, and the IR blaster is used to control the cable box. The only way to get HD using this method is to purchase the expensive Hauppauge HD PVR.
