The box just won't work. It will need activated to work. It is not likely the provider will pursue you for connecting an unactivated box. Some providers trap out all TV for internet/phone only providers, some will trap out most TV.

Can I repair them by sodering them together again or do I have to replace them?: Most definitely replace them not only is this a safety issue it's a peace of mind and reassurance. Being stranded on the water is not the same as being stranded on the side of the road. Those cables are made to keep corrosion and water out, and usually made to a high quality. When replacing the cables you'll need the right length. To do this measure from the control box to the stern, then from the gunwale (side of boat) to the centre of motor, then add an extra two feet. Why any-one would cut these cables is beyond me.

Q: i have been thinking about getting google tv. actually i have been tossing up apple vs. google tv (any suggestions?) but also i was looking into google tv and it said it works like the best with DISH but does it work on ANY cable provider? even a small town provider? mine is called selco.: Yes it works with cable. Just not as good as it works with dish. If all you want is Netflix, Apple TV and Roku box are better. If you want some more choices check Boxee Box.
