Q: About 3 weeks ago our water stopped. We replaced the switch at the pump and it was fine. Today when I was running water, it stopped again. I went and flipped the breaker on it, but it still didn't come on. About 20 minutes later, it started working again. Have you ever had this happen or do you know what the problem could be?
You mentioned that you flipped the breaker...was the breaker tripped? If so...then your pump is overheating, and tripping the breaker. Possibly some bare wires rubbing together in the well pipe might cause it too. If the breaker isn't tripping...then you may have a problem with the well itself. If it's going dry...the pump will shut itself down when the water stops flowing through it...rather than sit there and run until it burns itself up! Hopefully it's just a bad breaker! :-) Good Luck!!
Q: The leak is in the same area as my water pump, but when I jacked my car up yesterday, I wasn't able see my water pump. It's a 99 Saturn SL1.With the leak, it leaks very slowly, and it only leaks about a few ounces of fluid at a time. It mostly only leaks when I start the engine while its cooled down, and it's leaking down the passenger side of my engine. If it was a bad water pump, would the antifreeze leak without stopping until all of the antifreeze is gone?
It would NOT leak until it emptied the coolant. Between the bad pump and the leak, air will enter the cooling system. Right now you have some air in the cooling system. When enough air gets in, and because hot air expands, you will soon reach a point where the pressure will be so great that a hose will rupture or be forced off the clamp. Then a cloud of white steam will explode under the hood and you will be stuck wherever you happen to be at the time waiting for an expensive tow truck. Since things like this happen to you, and since you probably have better things to do than learn about cars, then do this: Go to AAA and buy a one year membership. For about $65 a year, and your cell phone, they will come anywhere, any time on any day to tow the car, jump the battery, open a locked door, put on gas, start your car, give you a ride and pull you out of a ditch - all free.
Q: Does anyone know where to find small A/C powered submersible pumps, that operate at 20-25 psi? I can only find D/C pumps for ship use.I need one for running humidifiers and misters for large terrariums
My Husband purchased a 25 psi A/C water pump from Grangers Supply. Lift was no problem with it. Grangers is listed on the internet.
Q: I would like to know how difficult it is to change a water pump on my mustang? Is it something I can do by myself? I do know about cars and can perform general maintenance, I am not totally ignorant to whats going on underneath the hood of my car I'm just not sure if I have the tools needed and how difficult it is to do. What tools do I need? Do I need a torque wrench? If anyone can help me out I would appreciate it. Thanks!
It's not hard, just time consuming. You will need BOTH metric and standard size sockets deep sockets and/or wrenches. For the tensioner pulley you only need 18mm closed-end wrench and you can pull upwards on the tensioner to release tension on the belt. Use a brand new water pump. Do not EVER use a remanufactured water pump. With a new pump you will have a lifetime warranty from any of the popular brand name auto parts stores. For the water pump the battery being disconnected is not required. That is required depending on the car you're working on, but on a 5.0L Mustang it's not. Be sure to stop by Walmart or parts store and pick up a tube of Permatex Blue RTV. Apply a thin bead of RTV on the gasket mating surface then put the gasket on. Don't do this until you're ready to put the pump on. Be sure to use a good scraper to remove old gasket material from the gasket mating surface of the timing cover. DO NOT USE A TORQUE WRENCH ON WATER PUMP BOLTS ON A 5.0L MUSTANG. These bolts are very hard to find now. You only need to snug them at first and then hand tighten them. The factory bolts are notorious for corroding and becoming stuck in the block after their heads snap off. Do not turn the bolts too quickly and be sure to clean them off with a wire brush if they have ANY corrosion and spray them with lubricant before reinserting.
Q: Could someone tell me the procedure for removing & installing a water pump on 97 buick skylark 3.1L 3100 SFI?
wow.. lol, did ya look that up in a book. very precise..lol, but kinda correct.. being i work for gm and all..lol... simple hand tool will do it.. listen to the guy who copies it from a book.....loll..lol
Q: How do I change the water pump in my 1998 ford mustang manual v6?
If you don't already know how to do it, then take it to a shop to have it done by the professionals. If you insist on trying it yourself, buy a Chilton's manual for your car, do some online research (with pictures), and buckle down. You will need to loosen the belts, remove the belts, remove the water pump, replace it, and reinstall everything. You will need to make sure that the belt is routed the correct way, or BOOM! You might also want to replace the timing belt while you're in there. It makes sense to replace it if you already are removing it, and the timing belt is something you can't afford to have go bad on you.
Q: We have a 3-story (including ground floor) house. We have 2 bathrooms. We need to invest in a water pump to deliver water from ground floor to all floors + 2 reservoir tanks (one located on first floor, and the second tank located on the second floor).Which water pump do you recommend among these:(1) Valco 261PL or Valco 261PT(2) Davey HS50-05TI'd be MOST grateful if you could kindly advice me on any reliable brand that you know (apart the ones that I mentioned). We're basically looking for a very reliable pump up to around $700 (preferably less).BTW, according to you, what's the typical horsepower we should be looking for? Will 1hp suffice??Thank you very much!
Nobody can accurately answer this question until you give more information. To size a pump, you need to know the flow rate you are trying to acheive (gallons per minute) and the total head (feet) you are trying to acheive. GPM is based off the max flow rate of the fixtures you are using at any given time. Fixtures such as toilets and sinks have typical flow rates. Head is calculated by taking your incoming water pressure (psi) and subtracting pressure losses from pipes and fittings (psi) and working pressure of your furthest fixture. For a small building, like a house, you can probably estimate your head to be the height of your building (incoming water pipe to ceiling of top floor). If that distance is 30 feet, you'll want a pump to acheive 30 feet of head at about 5 gpm. 5 gpm will allow for a shower and a sink to run at the same time. Toilets are low gpm unless you are using flush valves instead of flush tanks. I've never heard of Valco or Davey. In commercial applications, I've always used Bell and Gossett, but that may be overkill. Just make sure the pump you are getting is a pressure booster pump and not another kind of pump.
Q: Im replacing the water pump on my cougar but i ran into a snag. I got the pump unbolted but to take it off, i need to unbolt a bracket that goes behind the power steering pump pulley. I cant figure out how to get that pulley off to take off the bracket. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
remove radiator, remove fan blade, you may have to move the a/c condenser and or compressor. and move the alternator out of the way. scrape gasket off engine block. glue new gasket to water pump and install in reverse. be sure not to over tighten the bolts.
Q: What is the average life of a water pump in a car?
From my experience the average life expectancy is 7 to 10 yrs depends on usage. Seems like they last longer when used more often. Hope this answers your Q' BIG CHEO
Q: I have a 2002 Honda Civic Ex sedan with about 105k miles. Sometime before 110k I need to get the timing belt replaced. At about 95k my mechanic asked if I wanted to replace the timing belt and the water pump. According to the owners manual the timing belt must be replaced, but it simply says check the water pump.I don't want to pay for unnecessary repairs, but I also know that both of these jobs are quite involved, but can be done together fairly easily. Is there anything I can do to check myself or do I just have to trust my mechanic when I take it in. Also, what is the cost difference between the timing belt job and adding in the water pump at the same time?
just me 1 water pumps last 150k and 15 yrs usually 2 change belt sooner than later 3 if you r keeping car 5 yrs more change wp too 4 its a as long as its apart do it saving future labor
