Q: to see if it is pumping coolant: On some vehicles the waterpump impeller(on the backside of the waterpump) may become detached or rust away. Since you are not being vehicle specific, just taking the belt off and spinning the waterpump pulley may not show you whats wrong. A thermostat that is stuck closed can restrict circulation as well.

Q: Looking for a pro's advice here. My Corolla has developed a strange noise over the past few cold weeks (Highs of 10 degrees max, well below zero at night). The sound would best be described as a cricket-type rythmic chirp noticable during acceleration. I don't believe it's a belt because it comes and goes though it has steadily gotten louder. I vaguely remember this sound being related to a bad water pump I had a few years ago. Do you think this could be the same thing? Three years for a water pump? Q: The coolant in my '92 Le Baron is leaking, so I may have to change or replace my water pump.., any ideas?: You take it out and replace with new. In the process you might have to remove radiator, drive belt, several pulleys to get to the pump.

Q: I have a 94 Mazda b2300 it was working great last week then all the sudden it started making a knocking sound and started to overheat! Its still drivable but it overheats if i go far! A friend told me it can be the Water Pump so i put a new one, I was told it can be the Thermostat so i had a new one put in. It worked for awhile but began overheating again. My truck is my livelihood so its important i get it fixed! I cant afford a mechanic but just asking to see if anyone knows what it could possibly be? It catches good and the engine sounds strong but it keeps overheating!: Have the radiator wiped clean out. My Mazda truck radiator did a similar ingredient, and that i trust that you've a similar difficulty. in the experience that they could't clean it on the radiator shop, you're able to replace it.

Q: Hi, what is the difference between an Air pump and a Water pump. What are the functions of each? Does a tank filter come with an air pump? Is an Air pump or Water pump required?: If you have a water pump filter that hangs on the side of the tank you do not need an air pump alhtough I would have both. The water gets oxygen from being circulated. An air pump usually comes with a starter tank along with a air stone. This pump puts oxygen into the water for the fish which should be 1 fish per galllon.

Q: 1.where is it located and what would I have to remove 1st to get to it. And would I need a torque wrench if so what # would it have to be at when re-installing water pump: 1990 Toyota Celica

Q: Water pump for 98 Venture?: To replace the water pump on the 3.4L Venture calls for 1.3 hours labor (about $130) and the pump is about $30 and it is a good idea to replace the thermostat and flush the cooling system to get maximum life out of the pump and your cooling system about $100 so you would be looking at about $350

Q: My water pump is sitting very close if not rubbing against the case. There were shavings and a groove. Would this cause it to knock? Also would this blow up the lower end? One more, Should it be in the center or offset twards the top?: Perhaps one of the shaft's retainers, the bearing, or gear is worn, allowing the water pump shaft to move in and out of the case - causing the impeller to rub on the outer cover. Try to pull the water pump out and push it in - there shouldn't be any play. If there is, figure out why. If the impeller can move in and out, that would cause it to knock. If there were any metal shavings in the coolant, they would scrape the outer cover. The water pump cover isn't an even shape, so I don't know what you mean by should it be in the center The bottom end and the cooling system are 2 separate entities. A problem with one will not affect the other.

Q: I getting some work done to my like replacing the timing cover gasket, oil pan gasket and the water pump gasket...the mechanic I talked to said I need to replace this as well; my thing is the water pump is fine..should I take his advice?: Since we don't know what kind of car/engine you have, there are really too many variables for anyone to give you a good answer. You would want to take into account things like; How hard is it to replace the water pump, labor/time wise? How much does a new water pump cost, for the part itself? Is the water pump driven by the timing belt, and is it an interference-fit engine? If the water pump were very expensive, but easy to replace, and isn't driven by the belt on an interference-fit engine, then there would be very little risk in not replacing it for the now vs later cost savings. But if the water pump were very cheap, hard to replace, and is driven by the belt on an interference-fit engine, then it would not only be cheaper to do it now, but you wouldn't have to worry about a bad pump snapping the timing belt, and wrecking your engine from the valves hitting the pistons, warping or even cracking the cylinder head, and so forth. In the end, the decision is up to you, but these are the kinds of factors you would want to take into account when making this decision.

Q: We have 2 1995 E320's that are heating up way too high when running. One has been diagnosed at the repair shop for a malfunctioning fan clutch. They also said that as the car was running hot the water pump and thermostat should also be replaced (??) The water pump is 5.5 hours of labor and I cannot afford it right now.
