Q: my water pump has gone south on me and I want to repair it myself any ideas on how to will be greatly appreciated, do to space between the water pump of the engine and the chasi or body of the van that makes working on thi vehicle kind of difficult any knoledgeable instruction will be welcome. thanks for the help. well, if the water pump isn't pumping water, then the water pump is faulty. only way to know what's wrong with it is to open it up and look at it. one thing you might not be aware of, is that a few seconds of dry running is all it takes to damage the impeller, so if you've been in the habit of starting your motor without supplying water to the lower unit, then that's what happened. Another thing is, the pump sucks in sand and silt, those take a toll on the water pump; the more you run shallow water, the more damage is done.

A water-pump has a weep-hole on the bottom of the input shaft that purposely leaks coolant when the sealed bearings have been damaged. You must get it repaired ASAP because when you run out of coolant you'll over-heat @ permanently ruin the engine. Call as many local private mechanics and repair shops for a less expensive price to have a new re-manufactured water-pump installed. *In the mean time call NAPA, Carquest, Advance Auto or Auto Zone and ask for a *closed system 4 pound radiator pressure cap and install it when the engine is stone cold. The reason for doing this is the cooling system will build 4 pounds of pressure instead of 16 pounds. It should leak less and slower with the 4 pound cap. You must refill the radiator when it's cold everyday and keep the plastic coolant recovery bottle 3/4 filled when it's cold eash day also. Most likely someone has not used Dex-Cool antifreeze exclusively in the cooling system. Mixing brands with different formulations of antifreeze will cause a black/brown muddy mess in the cooling system, wipe out a water-pump early.

Most RV water pumps have a pressure switch. They shut off a few seconds after you initially turn them on because they have pressurized the line. Once you open a water valve (faucet/toilet) the pump will start running again. Low flow could be caused by the size of the pump, size of plumbing, or line blockage.

no 0-ring in it ! you either need a new clamp or hose. the cord is probably broke in yours.

I'm really sorry to here that you had to change so many parts without any result. my car developed such a problem and finally it was traced to guide pulley bearing. try to locate sound by keeping the hood open and listening from all sides. if in doubt you can take out the suspected belt and run engine - very short time if it is alternator. best of luck.
Q: How do you check water pump on 98 deville haveing overhea?
You can't really check the water pump except that with the belt off, you wiggle it to look for play in the bearing. When the bearing gets loose, it causes seal failure and massive coolant loss. But after 100k miles it is time to do the pump anyway. Not that hard or expensive. Do the thermostat as well, just in case. But if no coolant loss, then overheating is probably from something else, like bad plug wire, intake manifold leak, plugged catalytic converter, retarded ignition, head gasket, etc. If the radiator was not clear, then the electric fan would go on often. Not likely radiator. Depends also on when heats up. If city driving, then likely to be fan or switch. If highway driving, then plugged convertor more likely. Put cooling system pressure tester on radiator cap. Check for leaks under higher than normal pressure. See if holds pressure. Then start engine and see if cylinder leak causes oscillation.
