- Jenny is right about using a thin matt under the rug after you get the corners flat and the 1 st poster said to iron it.. If you try and iron any thing with nylon fibers you ll melt them and ruin the rug. So to answer you question, 1 st turn the rug over and place on a warm spot such as a heat register. You may need to do 1 corner at a time.Heat will relax the backing and help flatten it. Small weight on the corner ( such as a book or some magazines) help help too. You may want to even back roll it and warm it. This will flatten the corners out while its getting warm. Then use the matts recommended for you rug. - After you try what you think is right... dilute 1/2 cup oxiclean in 2 cups warm water,mix up till disolved then pore on carpet till you've soaked the stain area put a white towle on it and step on it so it's set there. Then let stay there overnite. in the morning pick up the towel and stain is gone. If stubborn stain do the process again.

- For a stain that set that long I recommend that you bite the bullet and rent a steamvac from a local gricery store. You can usually get one with cleaner for 24hrs for around $20-$30. Make sure you let it dry all the way. All that stickyness from the pop has probably attracted all kinds of stubborn dirt. Good Luck!!

- The ad is to install the carpet, not purchase. You'd have to ask Home Depot if the install also includes removal and haul away. It may not for a special deal. Removal can be fairly easy if the carpet was not glued to the floor. The easy way is to peel back a corner. Tack strips are thin slat with grippers nailed to the floor that have spikes on the top to grip the carpet. Once you get it off once section, the carpet is easily taken up. However, get a carpet knife and cut them into sections for easier handling. Often the carpet is NOT under the baseboard, but right at the bottom. Letting a putty knife or screw driver under there will probably loosen it. Remove the carpet and the pad.......pads are cheap and you want a fresh clean start. If the carpet is glued down.......well, you'll need a heavy duty flat scraper and start scraping. You'll also need a carpet glue solvent and plenty of open windows...at least. You may need breathing protection, getting the birds out of the house, etc.
