Q: I rent a duplex and the carpet was brand new when we moved in. the first time i went to vacuum it tore up a big string of carpet. now i have 3 or 4 spots in my house that have runs in the carpet. How do i fix these? is there away without redoing the whole carpet? I would like to get my security deposit back.: First, I would call the landlord/lady and tell him/her what happened. If it is new carpet there may be a warranty for defective carpet. You don't want to be responsible for damage to the carpet if it is defective. Second, What kind of carpet is it? My carpet is Berber and my cats have pulled up areas where the seams are and where it meets the tile. I use Household Goop (I get it at Home Depot) for almost every problem and it works well. You also might try some carpet glue. There is also a product called FABRI-TAC that I got from a fabric store. It is a permanent adhesive, fast grab quick dry, bond fabric, lace, trim, leather wood, and is washable. I used it where the carpet meets the tile and it worked well, very quickly. I hope you find a solution to your problem quickly.

Q: What do you know about Armenian rug history?: I know very little beyond what is shown in showrooms and on Antiques Roadshow. Mostly they have Persian carpets, and not that much on Armenian.

Q: Is there some kind of carpeting that won't collect dust deep within its root? We're going to have most of our carpeting changed to laminate because I have HORRIBLE dust allergies, but we want to keep the carpeting in the living room and dining room. Is there some kind of hypo-allergenic carpeting?: I believe Berber carpeting helps with keeping the dust out as well as indoor/outdoor carpeting. Your best bet is to call a carpet store and ask them. May be a little more expensive than the cheap kind. Why don't you get rid of carpet all together and do some area rugs without wool and dust holding carpets. Then you can wash them or take them out side and shake them. Best of luck to you.

Q: I don't have the cash to rent a rug doctor. I have a large white rug in my living room and I guess from walking around the house with no socks on, there is a 2'x6' area that is darker than the rest, along with a few stains from spilled drinks.I have a bottle of some carpet cleaning foam with a cheap scrubber on the end but it's just too small to cover that large of an area.So I'm thinking a bucket and a rag might be the best option. I have since bought a small bathroom size mat over the area my feet go on but I'd like to clean it still.So maybe a bucket of warm water with a dab of dishwashing liquid detergent? Or some baking soda?I also don't want to get so many suds in there to where I have to keep scrubbing with a rag and water only 5-10 times to get all the cleanser out.Any ideas?: some valid solutions right here so a techniques. Q: Today I placed my laptop on the living room rug for a little while, and when I picked it back up I could feel little tiny bumps on the base of it. So I turned my laptop upside down and I could see about 30 or so super tiny bugs that were crawling around. They are so small that it's hard to say what color they are. But they are smaller than a grain of sugar! I do have two dogs, so I dont know if they came from the dogs, but I have never seen these things before. Does anyone know what they might be?: They might be carpet beetles. BOMB! You can buy a couple of bombs in the hardware store. Close up the rooms and put a bomb in each room that has a rug. Take your pet(s) out for the day. Set off these bombs and leave. Vacuum EVERY day afterwards. Now, If the dogs are itching or if you look on their underbelly and see something crawling on them, it's probably fleas. If that's the case, you need to get meds from the vet and attack the problem with a vengeance.

Q: On Craigslist, someone is selling rugs from Iran (with certificates of authenticity). The person's parents recently left the rug business and he has many rugs available.Does anyone know a fair price for these rugs or have a price guide? I realize that smaller rugs are obviously less than bigger rugs, but what, for example, should a 4' x 8' rug cost?Thanks for any help.: The price should be around $40/square foot for a standard hand-knotted wool rug. If you're looking at a kilim (looks like a very thick tapestry) those will be much cheaper, and if you're looking at a silk rug, or silk blend rug, those will be about double the cost of wool, or maybe more.

Q: Whether is the wood floor good or the carpet good in the bedroom?: Floor is recommended. Thought it's easier to cause fire and the heat?retention properties is slightly lower than the carpet, comfort matters, the comfort of carpet is better than the floor, if there are people smoking at home, it's much more convenient to clean floor! Put the life aside, the heat?retention of the carpet is better than the floor, but still better than floor tiles, cleaning is not convenient

Q: I have a high pile cut carpet. When I put a dime on the carpet the carpet is a little over the dime. I just bought a dyson and it seems to fray the edges of the carpet. Im trying to find a vacuum that has great suction but wont ruin my carpet. If you have a short shag Carpet what kind of vacuum do you use?andDoes anyone recomend a vacuum for my kind of carpet?thank you so much!!: IF the Dyson has a height adjustment, try moving that up. You might be trying to run it on too low a setting and the beater bar is really beating the heck out of the carpet. I have different thicknesses of carpet (shorter in high traffic areas and more plush in other rooms) and I adjust this setting as I go from room to room. If the Dyson doesn't have a height adjustment, then I'd look for a unit that does. I'd try looking at the Bissell Healthy Home. It's 1/2 the price of the Dyson, has very similar filtering technology and has the height adjustment. 5 year warranty too! I've had the Healthy Home for over 2 years now and I really like it. We have a lot of pets (3 dogs and 4 cats) and it does great with the pet hair. And it does get used a lot, especially when everyone four footed is shedding! Right now with spring coming, it's run at least every other day. And one little tip for ya! Uprights don't do bare floors well; it's just the nature of the beast. But Sears sells a generic bare floor brush that will fit right on the pipes or wand on the Bissell so you can do your bare floors much better. It's about $13.
