- The area of the 1st carpet is 9*12=108. So if 108 sq ft=$27, then you divide both sides of the equation by 108 to find how much 1 sq ft equals. You get 1 sq ft=$.25. The area of the 2nd carpet is 8*14=112. So if 112 sq ft=$28, then you divide both sides of the equation by 112 to find how much 1 sq ft equals. You get 1 sq ft=$..25. This means they both cost the same amount per sq ft, therefore neither was the better bargain.

- That is why you need two rugs, having one to dry off, the other to use. It should be alright, but never put a wet rug on a dry horse. It will get a chill and it is mightily uncomfortable. Imagine putting a wet shirt or socks on! Not a good feeling. No you cannot put a rug on a wet horse unless it is stabled and you have a sweat sheet as well. Put that on, cover the horse with hay or straw and then put the stable rug on inside out to prevent the lining getting damp. After an hour or so, remove everything, brush the horse down and replace the rug the right way out. Definitely dry first - I refer to the matter of the socks!

The carpets not only were cleaner, they smelled wonderful. Another good point of using dishwashing detergent is that is very low suds so it leaves no residue.

- Yes, if you're going to lay new carpet the floor should be cleared of everything from wall to wall. A utility knife works good for cutting it but make sure it's sharp. A hammer and a small crowbar should get the nails out. If you can't get a nail out just pound it into the floor so it doesn't stick up. Or try breaking the head off then take a punch and pound it into the floor. They have a way of working themselves back up with time. Before you lay the new carpet, sweep and mop the floor so you know it's nice and clean.

I had to raise the door since it's a little lower than it's supposed to be, but it looks great. They stay down and when the landlord came to collect rent, I showed him and then he decided to change the whole house and put down BEAUTIFUL cherry hardwood and bought us runners of our choice color .Show the landlord the rooms potential, but let her know it's TOTALLY undoable and maybe she'll understand. Say your allergies can't stand the stained item or something. Be creative!
