- Q: Yeah so basically in the question. I am stuck at home my brother is 15 and has 8 friends around camping in the garden but they are out at the moment. It is a rainy day and I am not sure what I can do with myself. Any suggestions?
- you can read a book or invite some friends over or go to the library or watch tv or play a video game
- Q: With a the recent problems of vegtables being recalled because of E. Coli contamination is there any way to help prevent my vegtables from being contaminated too? I know that E. Coli is a bacteria naturaly found in the digestive trac of animals. Since a lot of people use munure aren't they at risk of an E. Coli contamination in thier gardens? Also E. Coli can be present in the water supply people are using to water their plants. Is the only way to know for sure to have my soil and water tested? So far the only recommendation I've found is to throughly wash vegetables before consumtion.
- There are thousands of varieties of escherychia coli, with only one, perhaps two being harmful. There is little if anything that can be done in the growing process to prevent e coli. The best way to avoid an e coli infection from your vegetables is to cook them thoroughly before eating them. A temperature of 180 degrees for at least 60 seconds should be sufficient to kill e coli. Note: Contrary to other posts below, washing WILL NOT remove e coli. You can wash your vegetables all day long and the e coli will still be there, alive and strong.
- Q: cant find the customer service number for better homes and gardens magainze
- Hi, okorder /
- Q: i am making home made sauce from the tomatoes from my garden and am going to can it. Can i add meat? im not sure if the meat can spoil when i can the sauce but any ideas or suggustions?
- Yes, you can add meat, as long as you follow proper cooking / canning procedures. They sell canned spaghetti sauce with meat, don't they?
- Q: Please help me! I thought about using chicken wire, but it's expensive, hard, and all around kind of ugly. I have squirrel problems, too. but I would really appreciate ideas on this! Thankyou!
- sorry to say this but pee in your garden. the smell will help keep them away. Everytime it rains you will have to do this again. Read it it some book on natural ways to keep animals away.
- Q: What's a good zone 9 gardening book?
- Better Homes and Garden prints one. Google their site for information on how to find the book.
- Q: Sunset or Better homes and gardens?
- sophisticated stuff browse at search engines like google it can help
- Q: Will it be safe to eat the stuff we are going to grow? It seems weird to me. We are doing a veggie/fruit garden over my mom's house and she wants to put quot;organic fertilizerquot; (POOP!) in the dirt. What is the proper way to do this? This is the first time I've grown anything so any tips would be helpful! Thanks!
- Manure needs to be well composted, then tilled or spaded into the soil before planting either sets or seeds. It is a least as sterile as the soil you are mixing it with! It is one of the best fertilizers out there for a small garden. Composted manure smell like good rich soil, not like poop by the way. Composting also kills the weed seeds that may be in it too. If you can't find composted manure yourself you can buy it most places that sell vegetable plants and seeds. Bert
- Q: A LONG time ago I had made a Tuna and Rice casserole, I used the recipe out of a very old Better Homes cook book. IDK what had happened to the cookbook, but it was the best thing I had ever tasted and I cant remember the whole recipe but I do remember some of its ingredients. I really only want the recipe out of a better homes cook book. So if you have one of these cook books, flip open to casseroles and 'if' it is there PLEASE share. I have looked everywhere for this recipe and I cant find it anywhere.
