- Q: Besides using bird houses, feeders, and baths. Do you use your flower beds and landscaping to attract birds to your yard? What plants do you use? How do you layout your garden in respect to birdbaths, feeders and houses?
- Depending on whether you want to attract specific birds or just any that are usual to your area, you can also leave parts of your garden more natural and less manicured. By this i mean, don't pick up every dead leaf when it falls. Leaf falls are good places for birds to find insects. And i agree with others that have said don't use pesticides. They kill off many of the bugs that birds eat and they are harmful to the birds as well. As to your birdbaths, they should be set no more than a couple of yards away from trees or bushes so that they have a place to fly off to when the inevitable cat shows up. You can also attract other creatures to your garden as well that can be beneficial. I live in the netherlands and in our garden we have a hedgehog that lives in it year round. It's a small garden but because we leave leaves and such in parts of it...the hog has a constant supply of food.
- Q: is it feasible to plant your own vegetables at home?ive got a 20x20 feet of space at home and was wondering would it be more cheaper if i plant my own carrots or potatos.
- I do and some of mine aren't even in the ground, they grow in containers. Tomatos and peppers are easy to grow, either in the ground or in containers. Herbs are, too. Strawberries fresh from the garden are delicious. I even have a drawf lemon and lime tree. Haven't had luck growing root plants because our soil is so hard. But, before you choose what plants to grow check with the people at your local nursery they will know your zone and help you pick the types of veggies for your soil and light conditions. And, with what we pay for produce around here, it is quiet a savings.
- Q: What can I use to control ants in my garden that will not hurt the harvest, plants, or family to eat? I know there is some that can cause problems later. Serious answers only!
- Coffee grounds. Pile them up on top of the anthills and sprinkle them around the garden. Ants hate them, worms love them.
- Q: I live in San Diego, Ca,, pretty sunny most of the year, but can get pretty cold in the winter.. I'm hoping to start my own veggie and herb garden this summer (august 08) but don't know if it's the right season to do it, or if I should just wait. Since I'm just starting, I would like to begin with herbs and a few veggies (tomatoes, lettuce, zucchini, snap peas, peppers) do these grow well in this area???As to prepping the ground, after loosening it, weeding it, what needs to be done??Thank you!
- You need to add some fertilizer, (In Australia something like Blood'n bone). dig it in, and also heap the soil up into rows (to help drainage). Someone else was asking about Vegie gardens in the Australian part of this, and one person suggested newspaper around the plants to suppress the weeds. This is a great idea. Go to your local nursery and see what vegie seedlings they have in stock now. Or ask there as they will know what is in season. Goodluck with your garden :)
- Q: Good day everyone.
- Home fries! With a garden salad on the side and coleslaw ;)
- Q: All members of Congress and Senate. Both Parties. All their hands are stained with our money. Why should they sit there for many years and just spill rhetoric constantly. They are all so phoney. They have big salaries, big pensions, etc. What about term limits and send these loosers home?
- Abolish the Federal Reserve, audit the system THOROUGHLY, and imprison as many of its shareholders as possible. (Many reside in foreign countries...) Then send every last member of the Council on Foreign Relations to the gallows. Problem solved.
- Q: walmart sells it but doesnt have anymore does anyone know anywhere else i could purchuse this item from?
- You could check OKorder from time to time; one might turn up there. I frequently see items from Walmart, Target and other chain stores turn up in 'salvage' stores in my area....it would be a long shot, though. Hope you can find it!!
- Q: im doing a research paper on florist's flowers vs. garden roses and i need more things that are different between the two
- I once had a job that involved, in part, developing new cut flowers for the florist trade. The specifications were that the plant needed to have flower stems that could be cut 3 feet long; that the flowers could be shipped without dying in the process; and that the flowers should last at least 3 weeks in a vase. Ideally flowering of the plant could be controlled so that flowers could be produced at any time of year, in a variety of climates, that the plant would be resistant to insects and diseases that could damage the flowers, and would be available in an assortment of colors. If you were developing flowers for home gardeners, your selection criteria would be somewhat different. You would also want insect and disease resistance, but your emphasis would be much more for variety of colors, and fragrances, compact growth, flowering in one season, and things like tolerance of different soil types, drought tolerance, etc.. Things like long stems, shipping tolerance, and long vase life would not be nearly as important for a home gardener, as they would be for a florist. On the other hand, most home gardeners would want a variety of flowers, not just dozens of red roses for valentines day. A rose by any other name smells as sweet (probably not an exact quote from Shakespeare), but the flowers a florist uses have a different purpose than flowers a home gardener uses. I hope this helps.
- Q: why doesn't my home have a garden?
- Well Ninja Kangaroo, first, somebody's got to say this home needs a garden. Then somebody needs to be willing to dig in the dirt, add things to the dirt, learn about plants, trees, flowers, decide what the garden is going to contain, shop for the plants, put them in the ground, feed, water, pull weeds, mulch, give that garden a lot of tender loving care to nurture it into a lovely, joyous addition to the home.
- Q: I have found lots or wholesalers, or retailers claiming to be wholesalers, who will do dropshipping. I am looking to open an actual physical store but I don't know where to find good wholesalers or distributors. I live in Alberta Canada. Does anybody know how I can find wholesalers of quality products that will deliver in bulk? To get products in the US would probably cost too much in shipping which would eat up any profits.
- Contact the various manufacturers directly and ask for a list of their authorized distributors/wholesalers. Honest reliable drop shipper is an oxymoron. You will not be buying at wholesale, but close to retail and make no money.
