Q: 1. After we have plucked the last of our tomatoes off the plant, should we bring it inside for the winter or does it die after one season? they are those little grape tomatoes if it makes a difference)2. Every apartment in our complex has a little space for a garden right outside. We didn't get around to planting anything in ours this year, but next year we want to. Should we pull out the weeds and wildflowers and mulch before winter or in the spring?3. I have a leather purse, and I need to take it on a week long trip we're leaving for this weekend (it's the biggest purse I have), some of the stitching is coming out on one of the handles, and the only leather repair shop in town can't repair it for 2 weeks. Is it ok for me to use a heavy needle and threat to temporarily stitch it, if I use the same holes where the old stitching was? All the stitching on that handle will come out anyways when I get it professionally repaired....

Q: With the movement to plant gardens in the backyard, I am concerned about what else might be in the dirt besides what is beneficial for plants to grow. I am concerned about toxins from wolmanized wood from outdoor structures and residential pesticide that neighbors tend to overuse. I am worried that a lot of this nasty stuff washes from yard to yard in heavy rains.I suspect that the first thing I need to do is to have the soil checked to actually see what's in there, not only for toxins, but recommendations for any deficiencies in minerals and nutrients. What's the best way to start, and any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
avoid carrots; they accumulate a lot of pesticides...same with melons, though you probably wont have room for them...most common garden crops, like tomatoes, beans and peppers, do an adequate job of filtering the intake of damaging chemicals..
Q: I am growing a erb, vegetable, and fruit garden and I keep finding catipillars eating my vegetables. I keep finding them in my cucumbers, egg plant, corn, and tomatoes. How can I make some home made bug killer?
Go to a bookstore and get the book called Jerry Baker's Garden Secrets.* My Husband and I are avid gardeners and my Husband has been making some of Jerry's *recipes* for decades. This book is loaded with all kinds of concoctions for different issues, and many of the things are from normal household products.
Q: i am making home made sauce from the tomatoes from my garden and am going to can it. Can i add meat? im not sure if the meat can spoil when i can the sauce but any ideas or suggustions?
No, make your sauce when your ready to use it, add your meat. The processing in store bought meat sauce is different.
Q: How can I keep squirrels from eating all the vegetables in my garden?
Potatoes, gravy, corn on the cob and squirrel. Squirrel stir fry. Baked squirrel, carrots, onions and potatoes. BBQ squirrel with steam veggies.
Q: I plan on buying some flowers for my garden that are already grown (i can't germinate seeds for the life of me :( ). Would it be benefical to take these plants out of the plastic trays they come in and transfer them to peat pots and then plant them in my garden? I'm new at this, and my soil quality it very poor, so i'm trying to find the best method. Thanks :)
There's no point in transferring to peat pots. However ... I have very poor soil, too ... and I've found that tossing a handful of peat moss down into the planting hole and adding some Miracle Gro before I put the plant in works wonders. Also, don't pack the soil back in too tightly. Just firmly enough to keep the plant in place ... if you cram it in there too closely you can actually suffocate the roots. Gardening is a learning process, for sure! Since you are new to it, I'd suggest keeping a garden journal ... just a notebook in which you write down what you planted, where you planted it (sun, shade, etc.), how well it did ... and take some pictures every few weeks so you'll have a visual reference for next year and in years to come. You'll be surprised how much you'll learn in just a single growing season. Happy planting, have fun, and good luck!
Q: How do u get rid of lizards & garden snakes outside your home? Pls help!?
Remove what they eat! Insects for the lizards. And small rodents, frogs and the like for snakes! Lizards are no real problem and neither are the snakes. As long as they are not poisonous! Anyway, they are doing you a big favor being there getting rid of the destructive pests!
Q: I have a relatively small garden and I would like to take take care of the pests using an organic treatment. Any suggestions for DIY remedies, or commercial products?
I too have a small garden. I have stopped using pesticides. When there is a really bad infestation of greenfly or those grey/black larva that hide under the cherry leaves etc I hose them off with water (A garden sprayer that takes about 5 litres, can be pumped up to a reasonable pressure and has a shoulder strap so it is easily transportable) If it is really bad I spray them with ecological soap mixed with water. But strange to say that since stopping the use of pesticides a natural balance of predatory insects seems to have become established, and I have no real problems anymore. I admit to using stuff called Bordeaux mixture on my roses - a fungicide.
Q: garden right next to the driveway is good i guess.. but i would not have privacy! definitely a back garden a priority for me.. more bbqs and parties in the summer :Dquestion rightfully belongs in HomeGardengt;GardenLandscaping .. but .. yeah .. nah ..
I like the back garden better !! Dusty more privacy ...
Q: i'm planning to do some home remodel, and any coupons would help. does anyone know where can i print or get coupons for home depot or lowes? thanks so much.
