- Q: I need cottonseed meal for my garden.
- Home garden stores should carry it. Also health food stores.
- Q: Do you have a website where you and others can show their gardening pictures? If so, please list the websites' links. Here is one that I know about:
- U describe the picture as a Little weird.....!! Do you really want to risk her being slightly offended or freaked out just to show her this picture? Your older brother prob has more experience with girls... so i would stick to what he told you to do and not show it to her. I personally would be VERY freaked out.
- Q: Modern home decor/bedroom redecorating/ikea style/teenage bedrooms..any magazines like this that i can subscribe to online?maybe to canada..
- I okorder . Paper magazines include Better Home and Gardens, Domino, Country Living
- Q: What is the best kind of tobacco to buy for making tobacco water for pesticide for my home gardens. I bought a can of Grizzly natural Chewing tobacco becasue it was cheap, but is there a better brand to buy or are cigarette tobaccos better to use for pesticides? Also what is the best method of making it? I heard that just boiling in a pot of water and straining out the tobacco works well but is there a better way?
- The brand with the fewest additives is the best. Redman is ok but a very straight forward pipe tobacco has less sugar and additives. Boiling or making suntea with it will be fine
- Q: My brother and I just got a house... ihe is 25 and I am 20 we plan on painting thee house charcoal gray and a lighter shade of grey. Their is like a really nice bay window in the frontroom and under that window on the out side of the house is a 2ft by 3ft garden... what is the best looking plant or item to grown in that spot? Oh!and please consider that the walk to the door is along that route... Please help I wanr to garden
- congratulations on your home! first, you need to know what zone (gardening zone) you are in; then the amount of shade/light it gets every season. For instance if the house faces west, it would get hot afternoon sun, etc. If there is a large tree nearby it might get a lot of shade. This makes it necessary to know because some plants do well in shade, partial shade, but not in hot sun. You can easily find out your gardening zone by checking it out with the county extension office in your area or by asking a local nursery. Then you might want to visit lots of nursery's in the area and ask questions: like what plants grow well in your area, etc, and also by checking out other homes in your area what they have in their yards. If you find one that you really like, mark down the name of it; and check into it on the web. Good luck!
- Q: Me and my wife just finished moving in to our first home and we want to have a vegetable garden next Summer. Problem is we both know absolutely NOTHING about gardening. Neither of us ever did any growing up, nor did our parents really do much either.I was hoping the community here could give some good tips to help us get started. We a do not have a ton of space, probably from a rough estimate I did a minute ago 12x50 at the max and that would need to include walking space since most of it is our side yard. We also live in Ohio so winter will need to be accounted for. If possible we would really like to do tomatoes and I have heard we may be able to grow them off the side of our garage saving us some space, and zucchinis would also be nice! Outside those we are open to any suggestions.Anyways if anyone has helpful websites, step by step guides, general tips, advice on fertilizers or pesticides to use/not use all of it is appreciated, since as I said we are completely ignorant on this subject!
- According to me you take the guidance of special companies which provides healthy foods for public and good in this field.
- Q: Hello. I'm interested in starting my own garden at home. I'm planning to plant strawberries, tomatoes, blueberries, watermelon, and grapes. I've chosen a plot of land, but I don't know exactly how to start a garden. The plot of land is riddled with weeds, soil seems to be poor, a bit sandy. What can I do to make it suitable for gardening? I'm an absolute beginner.
- Take the grapes off your list, for starters. If you're a newbie, start small, with a few plants, and expand your garden as you gain experience. A common mistake for first-timers is that they put in too big a garden, with too much, and then are overwhelmed, and give up in frustration. Strawberries I recommend growing in containers where you see them every day, and can keep an eye on them. A small vegetable garden with a couple tomatoes or peppers, or 1 or 2 other things is a good start. Pick your spot - a 3 foot by 10 or 12 foot is plenty big for your first year - in a sunny place, that isn't too far from water or a hose. Till or just turn the soil with a shovel, and work in a lot of compost a couple weeks before your last frost date, and you'll be ready to plant. Grapes are a whole learning curve in themselves, and I recommend them NOT being the first thing your plant. Blueberries, if your soil ph is below 6.5, are do-able, as they're fairly simple to plant. If your soil ph is close to 7.0, though, they will never be very happy. Tomatoes will want about 9 square feet of space per plant (I often see them planted about a foot apart - easy to do when they're so small when you plant). Watermelon will sprawl - the vines traveling 10 to 20 feet...but if you have the space, you can kind of direct where the vine goes as it grows.
- Q: Hi, wondering how I would go about making a living by gardening, selling seasonal fruits and veggies, selling herbs and sprouts, canned goods like sauerkraut and pickles, possibly mead and wine, eggs, and eventually things like homemade candles and soaps. Is it possible to make a living off of this? What skills would I need to learn (besides the most obvious of gardening, cooking, and creating the products)THANKS!!Also- I am single, and live very modestly. don't have extra things such as a TV, lots of clothing, never go to restaurants, etc.
- yes you can. I have been doing so for the past 15+ years. But if you do not have at least an acre of land your will have to invest in land which can be very expensive. Marketing skills are key to being successful along with the ability to keep good records. Home gardening skills will help but will not really prepare your for growing for market. Start small so you are not overwhelmed and know that to make a living you will have to farm at least 3 acres. Also do not get into the trap of trying to provide everything for everyone. This is a sure fire way to get burned out very quickly. Choose something you are good at doing and like to do well enough that you can devote 80+ hours a week to the endeavour. A market garden alone will take well over 45 hours a week of your time. Animals will take about as much time and making things like mead, beer, wine (which you will need a lot of licensing to do this legally), candles etc.. will also take around 40 hours a week. So if you want any kind of life other than being a complete slave to your farm (much less any time to sleep or eat) think about specializing a lot more than what you seem to be thinking
