Many magazines offer a trial subscription with the first issue free and instruct you to do just what Joan suggested if you don't like the magazine. Once you are a subscriber and then want to cancel is sometimes a lot harder. Try the e-mail thing to cancel if writing on the bill doesn't work. And believe me, if you don't pay, they won't send the magazine for long.
