Q: I'm in a 5 piece band playing in about a 20x20 room. 2 walls aren't covered with boxes and the floor is linoleum. It's really loud in there and we need to dampen the room to a bearable level. We were thinking about getting 3 or 4 rugs for said 2 walls and floor. But then we started considering acoustic foam. I'm sure acoustic foam is more effective than rugs, but since we're on a really tight budget, is it really worth it to spend twice as much on foam? Or will rugs suffice? Side question, if we get rugs, could we just get 2 and put them on the floor since i'm certain the linoleum is the main culprit, or do the walls probably need it to?
Find your local Gypsum products store and check out their products, they have all kinds of wall and ceiling treatments that will help keep the sound in the room but will also help keep it true in the room so you don't get distortion that may affect your music.
Q: I recently moved into my first apartment and its pretty nice except for the carpet in the living room. Its a kight green color and it's just full if stains. I would love to just put a new carpet in but thats not really practical because I'm just renting the place. It waould cost stanley steamers about $100 to clean it but this carpet is really old and stained. Would it even be worth that? I'm afraid I'm gonna spend the money and it's still gonna look gross
As a professional carpet cleaner this comes up a lot. Our policy is we will try a spot/stain or two (usually the worst) to give you an idea of what the carpet will turn out like. If you don't think it will turn out the way you like that's it we leave. No reputable carpet cleaner will guarantee a spot or stain will come out until they try, because they can't tell for sure until they try. A carpet cleaner can tell if some stains are likely to come out but cannot guarantee it. As an incentive to get your lanlord to pay for the carpet cleaning you can point out carpet cleaning is tax deductable for a landlord.(which is why mony landlords ask you for the reciept, for their files of course, if you get the carpets clean) but thats another story
Q: am being charged for a new carpet at my former apartment cause it had some stains on it...i was living at this apartment for 3yrs and the carpet was never replaced during these 3 yrs.Am i being exploited?Shouldn't the landlord replace the carpet after 3 yrs of me living there?Total cost $1700 for a new carpet
Most apartment complexes will only install new carpet every 5 to 7years. I've never heard of any apartments changing them in less than 5 years, unless the carpet was somehow damaged, or stained beyond the ability to clean them. As to the cost of $1700...we don't know how big your apartment was, or what quality of carpet is being installed. You could call around and get estimates from a few carpet sources, to compare prices. Good Luck
Q: also....what can i use for a title that has or is related to accessories in it? i was thinking about ready, set, accessorize but my poster is victorian. i dont think it matches.
1) To add warmth and comfort. Blankets can be used to snuggle up in the winter months, especially back when fireplaces were not available in every home. Rugs are used for good insultation in the cold months, and help to keep a home cozy and warm. 2) In the Renaissance periods, rugs were used as a status symbol, as well in the Baroque styles and Restoration period. Oriental, hand crafted rugs often were used to denote a status of wealth - which is why many kings had oriental rugs that adorned walls (as tapestries). Rarely were the rugs found on the floor - they were too expensive for that. 3) The more widely known reason for rugs, of course is a place to wipe your feet. It is seen as a welcoming into someones home. Blankets, as well can also be used as an accessory, when thrown over a chair, sofa, or end of a bed. They are convienent on these surfaces, because it is an easy way to add color and comfort into a space. I hope this helped a bit! Let me know if you need more help with it!
Q: My lil' sister had a sleep over in our living room the other night and her and her friends got chewing gum walked into the carpet in about 5 places.. It's an old carpet but that's not the point really, its dried solid hows best to remove it?
Freeze it and use a butter knife, can use ice or buy a can of gum remover.
Q: Will long-term use of carpet mites grow?
Usually to prevent mites, it is necessary to frequently wash, frequently change furniture supplies, and then exposure in the sun, indoor ventilation often, to maintain indoor sanitation and pay attention to personal hygiene. There are specialized institutions for the governance of mite mites of the family to do service, the foreign institutions, China should also have, they can all love living mites in the indoor location system for the whole process of killing, no pollution, can get good effect in a very short period of time, including their usual not clean the mattress, also can use professional techniques effective in addition to mites, and also on the indoor environment in other bacteria and viruses play a role in the killing, in some European countries is recognized by many families.
Q: If you have an apartment with Pergo or hardwood floors in an older building that doesn't have a lot of insulation will rugs, curtains and the like help with reducing noise transmission to other units?
Enormously. Just the addition of a few rugs and curtains will significantly deaden noise. If you want proof--go to your bathroom and remove all the rugs/shower curtains/window coverings you have in that space. Even if you don't have shower curtains (like a glass door, instead) remove everything you have on the counters or hangers--towels, etc. That hollow sound you hear in the bathroom, it happens all over your house, its just in larger areas so you don't notice it with all your furniture and things there. If you put a rug over a hardwood floor, It will definitely help to deaden the sound of footsteps to the neighbours below. Curtains/ bamboo shades/ etc., even light ones, will both make a significant difference to the sound that escapes your house and comes from other people outside AND to the coolness or warmth within your home.
Q: I'm looking to clean the carpet in my apartment m, and I am debating on whether I should rent a carpet shampooer or buy one. Let me know if you have any suggestions on a good one please. Also looking to buy a new vacuum does anyone have have a cheap good one they recommend
Chemdry is good in united states as well as here in Australia. They also have good products that helps you remove stains in your carpet.
Q: How to clean the carpet wax?
Spray the carpet with a stain and then scrub it into the carpet with a spoon. Dry quickly with a white towel, then let the carpet dry naturally (before it dries completely, it will look a little darker). Light carpets and dark stains may need several washings to recover.
Q: I am looking to shampoo my carpet but don't want to splash out on an expensive cleaner. Is there like a spray or can of powder or something I can buy and use myself at home to clean my carpet?
Those cans of sprays are ineffective and can prove quite costly and the powders you speak of are granules and those you must have a special machine to to pick up the granules you simply can not vacuum up this stuff, my suggestion to you is to use what I use Baking soda and Cornstarch mixed, sprinkle these two in equal amounts over your carpet wait several hours or overnight and then just vacuum up the next day or after several hours, thats it. it is easy and cleans the carpet very nicely for spots you can just use a small dollop of Shaving cream on the spot and rub in and allow to dry then just vacuum up this will remove grease and muddy dirty spots and some stains, if you have trouble removing certain stains just use undiluted White Vinegar or a little dishwashing liquid mixed into some warm water sponge on and then rinse with warm water never hot water as this will cause the pile to mash down and become stiff Good Luck !
