- Kelly, After you used the iron like described above, use a degreaser like 'Dissolve-it to remove the last of the residue. Candle wax is a oily type stain so a degreaser is cruicial. The big caution is not to use a product so strong it takes color out of the carpet that is supposed to be there. I have never had Dissolve-it or Simple Green harm anything I've used them on. - Q: i'm installng carpet myself and this sort of carpet usually requires the installation of carpet padding underneath. what would happen if i were to lay the carpet without the padding? i'm just trying to cut costs. the floor underneath is some sort of particle wood.
- yes, I was just reading that there is one carpet pad that is really expensive that outlives the life of the carpet. Forget which one, but it's a very rare pad. Generally speaking, the carpet pad goes bad before your carpet and then your carpet starts to take the abuse, which causes wear. So if you are replacing carpet because it's worn out...you need a new pad. And get a good one so your new carpet will last longer. Just remember, a good carpet pad takes the abuse so your carpet doesn't. Your installer should explain to you what the best kind is for you.

The carpet needs to be hot water rinsed and extracted to come clean, and no, this does not hurt the carpet.

- Well, I don't have a carpet cleaning business, but my dad has his own business, I manage the office at a business, and I am studying business. Carpet cleaning services is a competitive business. While you have competition, you must provide better quality work at cheaper/same costs. Licensing/insurance for the business may go off of the amount of profits you obtain. It may (equal) about another $70 a month (give or take a little). I think carpet cleaning would be a great business to get into! Most households/businesses have carpet that needs cleaned. You'll encounter customers that can't clean their carpets or just don't want to; thus, they'll hire someone to do it. I would take into account that you may encounter some nasty scenarios: i.e. flea-infested carpets, carpets with feces/urine, or other dirty circumstances. If they wouldn't bother you, go for it!
