- Q: I need an area rug for my dorm next year. Not too expensive and cool looking. Any suggestions?
- Go online with Frontgate or Grandinroad for indoor/outdoor rugs. They are available in all styles from contemporary to traditional, are soft to the touch and just have to be hosed down to clean. They are inexpensive as well. Home Decorators just came out with a similar line but I can't speak to their softness as I have only ordered from Frontgate and Grandinroad. I saw some of these rugs at Home Depot but they weren't soft and they looked cheap. So not all are equal.
- Q: I'm getting new carpet put down in my room soon, but I'm very clumsy and I can't keep it clean. Is there some kind of carpet protector (much like a screen protector for a phone) that I can put over my new carpet?
- This is easy, no food in your room. Nothing other than water to drink. No painting of nails or painting in that room. Vacuum twice a week and it will stay stain free.
- Q: what to do if the carpet smells like beer?
- Have you ever had the experience of spilling the beer on the carpet? and if you have done that, then it is probably the residue caused by the delayed cleaning up. If there is no such experience, then it may be the material that is not promptly cleaned up or the bad glue.
- Q: We have a fantastic purple sheepskin rug that is in need of a really good clean, (4 year old and kitten have seen to that) is it safe to machine wash it or do i have to get it dry cleaned?
- No. The fur will turn into a lumpy, matted mess. Take it to a dry cleaners. They'll charge you about $20, but it will come back like new. I had a small sheepskin that I got for my dogs to lie on and, of course, they got it pretty stinky. I washed it in the washing machine and it came out all matted and tangled. I also had a larger sheepskin rug that I sent to a dry cleaners and it came back like new.
- Q: wax cleanup from rug
- don't use an iron. You have a good chance of melting your rug if it is made of synthetic fiber. I used an iron on a rug before and the rug material actually melted and stuck to the cloth I had laid on top. If your carpet is wool or cotton it won't melt...but the melted wax will actually wick into the carpet fiber when it liquifies. Do the opposite. Get a bag of ice and freeze it for several minutes, then scrape the hardened wax from the carpet with a credit card or plastic scraper. If there is any wax color remaining in the carpet, you may have more problems.
- Q: I have heard that cleaning a carpet with a quot;carpet cleanerquot; can actually harm the carpet. How do I clean my carpet, which is brand new, without harming it? I heard you have to put scotch guard or something on it.....idk please help! Thanks!
- My partner and I run a successful Carpet Steam Cleaning business and have heard every rumor going over the years. First a professional Steam Cleaner that knows what he is doing will never 'ruin' your carpet. Many less professional cleaners may not re-extract all of the detergent out of the carpet correctly and as these detergents are designed to attract dirt you end up with what is called 'resoling' with the carpet getting dirtier much faster than before but this in itself does not damage any of the fibers nor is it dangerous to any children or pets and much more likely to occur with a hired machine as the vacuum is usually not strong enough. However we have received many calls over the years by people who have incorrectly used hired machines and permanently damaged their carpets (Usually water related damage) in the process. Personally I wouldn't let one of those machines anywhere near my carpet they run too cold and have limited suction Call in a professional it's like comparing a moped to Harley Davidson Do not attempt to scotch guard your carpet yourself this really does need to be done by a professional (Most Carpet Cleaning Companies will do it for an extra fee) The scotch guarding itself is not difficult or dangerous however it needs to be done immediately after a professional clean. It works by creating a protective membrane on the surface of the carpet to prevent dirt from getting through but it works both ways any dirt still in the carpet cannot get out after application until it wears off in 3-4 years time In most Countries the local health authorities recommend getting the carpets cleaned Once or Twice a year
- Q: cats knocked oil lamp on carpet, contents spilled
- spank your cat until it behaves..... Seriously you needed to put towels, to draw the oil out first thing. Keep doing that until there is none left to draw. Naptha as in Fels naptha or you might try lighter fluid....make sure you are well vented. A wet vac MIGHT do the trick as in the local carpet shampoo rental place. If all else fails call a pro. Obviously your concerns are an oil based product which might harm the dyes...or loosen them and anything else strong enough to attack the oil may be too strong for the dyes.... Oil lamps really should be kept in a safer place and used only as an aux light source when the electric goes out....open fire lighting has ALWAYS been dangerous....not trying to sound lecture like but over the years I have learned both candles and oil lamps are probably not a good thing in lieu of flashlites....not as romantic but far less likly to take out your entire house.
- Q: Our cat pees on our rug and we don`t know why. The main part is we can`t get the smell of the rug. We have this huge piece of tinfoil and it says that he would be scared of it and not even walk on it but he walks right over and starts biting at it. Now that the tinfoil is there he won`t pee on the tinfoil but he finds a new spot on the rug. We spray this stuff on the rug that we got from our vet but it would take like 10 bottles of it to take the pee smell off. Is there anything that you tried that takes up smell our anything you think is good to use? We are thinking off letting him be an outdoor cat so he will pee out there but we are not sure. We also have a we also have one of those squirt bottles that we filled up with water so if we catch him then we can squirt him. But we still need help!
- Litter train him/her.Take the rug off.
- Q: I had purple window paint spilled on my carpet and I really need to get it out. Help please??
- Use carpet cleaning machines loaded with steam cleaning advantage. Ordinary carpet cleaners can't remove the paint perfectly but carpet cleaners with steam cleaning feature can easily remove the stains.
- Q: To avoid telling you the story of my life, the carpet has ended up being a rainbow of stains, from dog urine, to juice stains, the works. It has so many different stains that are already dried out that it's crazy. I tried to clean them, but it was already too late (I wasn't here for the actual accidents). We hate it! My husband is very skeptical about it. We can't afford a professional cleaner and we seriously need to get rid of all these stains. Will the rug doctor work on these stains? Make them disappear? We don't really care about a deep cleanse, just enough for the stains to go away, when we move out they'll charge us for every stain that there's on the carpet and we don't want that to happen!
