Wilton carpet, like Axminster carpet, is woven. However the difference between the two methods is the way in which the carpet is woven. Whereas the Axminster yarn is woven into each weft and then cut to the required pile height and then reinserted when that colour is needed again –the Wilton carpet yarn is a continuous strand woven all the way through.
- Q: I have purchased wool rugs which I really like but they have an odour and we have stepped on prickly objects that, when searched for, turn out to be similar to twigs (approx. an inch or more in length) or seeds woven into the wool. The rugs come from a very reputable rug importer that operates in the United States as well as Canada so I'm somewhat surprised at what appears to be poor quality and am considering returning them. Will I find this with all 100% wool handmade rugs? Does cleaning them make any difference?
- If your supplier is buying from village producers, then yes, there will be twigs and seeds in the wool. In a handmade rug, the wool is sheared from sheep that are wandering about and getting dirty. Although the wool will be combed/carded and probably scoured a little, it will not become 100% clean. Textile machinery and harsh chemicals are required to remove every bit of debris from the wool. A 100% wool rug with no debris in it will invariably be machine made. The smell is one of sheep..... again, if you buy heavily scoured, bleached wool the smell is not so strong. A good example of this that can be seen in most yarn stores is the Japanese-produced Noro yarn. It is moderately expensive but small twigs and grasses can still be found in the yarn.
- Q: We are cleaning the whole house with Rug Doctor because we are selling the house.I have two questions:Can I put back furniture on the wet carpet? I don't really mind about the furniture, its kinda old. Like wood 3 beds, chairs.I don't have any other places to put the furniture. Can I stay in the room? I have my study table and computer.
- Yes, tin foil keeps the moisture away from the legs of the furniture and protects both the carpet and the furniture. One problem though is if it is still damp when you put the furniture back on it you have those depressions in the carpet as it will compress then dry that way. Best it be as dry as possible before putting the furniture back. Good Luck
- Q: We have a fantastic purple sheepskin rug that is in need of a really good clean, (4 year old and kitten have seen to that) is it safe to machine wash it or do i have to get it dry cleaned?
- NO, i didn't know any better and put my sheepskin rug in the washing machine and came out a total mess.
- Q: a friend heard from a rug dealer that rainbow vacuums were not good to use on shag rugs, but she was in a hurry and never asked why.
- I don't know that they are but you ought to call the co. and ask. You know how different companies are about their vacumns. This could be totally the truth. Call and find out. If you find out from the co. then it won't be heresay and you will know for a fact.
- Q: My couch is black leather. I have a glass top coffe table with black legs. My tv is black, and the TV stand is black w/ a very dark wood. Also some other dark wooden misc peices that match. I want to paint the walls a fire engine red to make the room pop, but I also need a rug. I've been searching every store everywhere, but NOTHING seems to match. We tried several animal prints, but it ended up look tacky. Any suggestions??
- I would never do the room fire engine red......I would do it tomato soup red which is good enough to make it pop without it being to loud. Try Pier One for a rug
- Q: What if the carpet is dirty?
- If it's wool, you must take it to the dry cleaners. If the chemical fiber, and their cleaning brush in the household can also be
- Q: I have dark brown furniture and i just painted my walls beige and gold! Would a dark color carpet make it look trendy? i thought of choosing dark purple as a carpet color, what do u think?
- YES! DO IT! A dark purple carpet, way to make a statement! PLUS, if its the right purple, maybe even a burgundy wine purple - that would look so classy and elegance! Add some more gold pieces like frames, wall clocks, mix in some bronzes... and you've got a ridiculously cool space. FINALLY someone who isnt installing plain white carpet! Go for it!
- Q: Always been as natural as possible with my horses inc rugging, deciding if it's time to rug my old guy (I say old but he's 18 which isn't that old I know!). He's a warmblood, 18yrs used now as a pleasure/trail horse. Things to consider:I live in Queensland, Australia - the lowest the temperatures been since we've lived here is around 1-2 degrees celsius (that's 33-35 Fahrenheit) but it is quite windy (it doesn't snow here - I wish!)This horse spent most of his life in Victoria where the temperature got much lower much windier but he was with a large herd to snuggle up too.We have a run in shelter with just a roof minimal trees. He's a good doer keeping his condition (if anything slightly chubby!).Thanks for your contributions :)
- Once it starts getting colder out, watch him for signs of being cold, such as shivering. If giving him a little more grain doesn't help, I would rug him. It's all up to how he is on his own. I would at least put a light blanket on when it's windy, if he has grown a winter coat. If his coat isn't as thick as it should be, I would rug him with a heavier rug. If you're concerned about a rug being too warm, go out to the paddock every few hours and stick your hand under the blanket. If he's sweating, it's too heavy. If he's toasty and not sweaty, he's good.
- Q: We are looking for the best on the market, not the cheapest.
- You shouldn t use a true pad or sorts. The best I ve seen for area rugs in a line called Rug Hold. Its a non skid underlay ment for rugs. Come in a wide variety of sizes and types . The type you need is for rug over hard surface. Now there are some felts that can be added to the backing of a rug but w/o seeing yours its hard to say if you can add it or not. Any padding for carpet will not work properly and actually be a tripping hazard, even a thin 1/4 rubber pad. Any question you can e mail me through my avatar. GL
- Q: I have been living in a rental home for 2yrs and notice that the carpet is old. Due to the fact that i have had it clean 1 time steam clean and 2 times rental machine and stains will not come up. Asked rental company once and they said the owner does not have enough money to replace carpet. The carpet is over 10yrs old and you can tell because the edges are coming up and the man who clean the carpet one time said they don't make that kind of carpet any more. How can i get the owner to replace the carpet.
- Send him a certified letter with return receipt - this way you know he recieved it. Let him know that the carpet is starting to come up and that you consider it a safety hazard. Ask politely if he/she can replace the carpet. Look up landlord - tenant laws in your state, there may be specifications on when carpet needs to be replaced. This may be a time limit or if certain conditions are met (ie: coming loose, excessive tears/damage, etc.) If you can find something that states he has a responsibility to replace the carpet then include that in your letter. If you can't find anything specific according to your state laws then you'll just have to keep asking politely. If he takes no action and it IS his legal responsibility then the next step would be to send him another certified letter stating that he has (specify a time limit, I would say 30 days) to replace the carpet or you will replace it and withhold the amount from your rent. Check and see if this is legal in your state - it is in most.
