Q:I have a ‘94 Grand Cherokee. Just recently, I noticed my brake pedal feeling a bit on the low side. I had my pads replaced about 20K ago. I notice when I start the Jeep with my foot on the brake it drops about an inch. Also, I had to add about 1/2 can of brake fluid to the resevior but it still doesnt feel quite right. Can anyone off opinions of what is wrong?
I have a 98 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4.0. Had a simular problem and replaced them at one of those drive in 30 min brake shops.they felt funny and still made noise. A year later I just went to Sears Auto and got the Original Ceramic pads which cost more and have not had any problems for almost 3 years now. Might just be an adjustment, but for sure Original/spec parts are better than after market. Same thing with the serpintine belt for the engine. Tthe 17.00 one lasted 2 years.the 30.00 one is still going.
Q:i want to know the complete details about rally cars braking system.plz give me the corect answer
am taking area in,allow's see!Lol after today's fiasco!14 yrs sparkling and that i have been given flashed by technique of a digicam and damaged the boot of a Lexus so ??AM an outstanding driver quite Lol extra effective connect fr dougal on his milk opt for the flow! xx
Q:I have replaced rotors, calipers, brake lines, brake pads and the master cylinder. What could be the problem?
the brake caliper has been built to many times and needs to be replaced.,,,,,,,,,
Q:what would happen if i put brake fluid in a gas tank or cooling system on car?
I don't know. Try it, and get back to me.
Q:OK so i got in my 2000 Chevy blazer this morn. and started to drive to the gas station and i drove about a mile and the brake lite came on and my brakes started going in and out soo i came back home and i have always had an ABS problem anyway soo i had already taken the ABS lite out of the dash cluster because i had to replace the ABS wheel speed sensor so many times and finally just took the light out and it turns out the noise was coming from a silver box with the words Kelsy Hayes written on it i figure this is the ABS control unit soo i unplugged both connectors going to it, the noise stopped and the brakes work perfect and the brake lite is off did i fix the problem? or will it or another problem return in the future? because the way i see it, if i don‘t have a wheel speed sensor connected and the lite is already out what is the point in having the control unit. thanks
It sounds like what you did is completely disable the ABS system. Now, you can drive around like that with no problems, but you will have to drive with the mindset that you can no longer rely on ABS. All ABS does is prevent the wheels from locking up from under hard braking, so you can still steer. Just remember that you will no longer have this function. Hope this helps.
Q:You can smell the brakes the other breaks are cold
The slider pins are probable caught, subsequently why they are getting warm and not liberating. because of the fact the brakes basically push from the piston side, if the caliper pins arent lubed, it is going to easily push on that side. sometimes they pass and get caught and dont launch, sounds like it right here. Dont use WD-40. Use silicone grease. It wont dry up and mixes with although else has been put in there till now. Take a rat tail report and sparkling the interior the place the slider pins pass and rinse with brake kleen. Blow out and re-grease. be valuable to get all the rust off. try this each time you alter your brakes.
Q:i know it somehow locks the back wheels, does it work like normal disc brakes? and ive heard some people use it for cornering, how so?
The normal brakes on a car are activated by a hydraulic system so that it just takes a little force on the pedal to apply a lot of braking force to all four wheels. The emergency brake doesn't use hydraulics - it just uses a cable going directly the the rear brakes. It won't stop you as fast but if you get air in your brake lines or something, it is better than nothing. Some people do use the emergency brake when drifting (cornering while sliding sideways) because it can help them initiate the slide. In a rear wheel drive car with a stick shift car, generally the driver will do a clutch kick and accelerate to get the rear wheels spinning. If that alone doesn't do it, he can pull the handbrake to lock the rear wheels before dropping the clutch and accelerating to spin them. In a front wheel drive car, you can't make the rear wheels spin so locking them up is the only way to reduce traction on command. Pulling the handbrake accomplishes this. Drifting is dangerous, hard on the car and very hard on the tires. I wouldn't suggest trying it.
Q:I just had the brake pads on my car replaced yet they still squeak, however, not nearly as loud now. My father said that the brake system was fine and that the new brakes just needed some time to be broken in. It has been something like 3000 miles and they still aren't broken in lol. Although lubricant and brakes don't seem to go well together, is there something I can use on my brakes to quiet them down.
the problem is a combination of incorrect installation and cheap pads. The proper way is to take the rotor and refinish or replace it and when you do that clean all the rust off all metal parts in the brake system as the rust amplifies vibration and squealing. also lubricate the caliper slides and use brake quiet compound on the back of the pads. that other problem is semi metallic pads have a high rate of semi metallic brake pad squealing. i always use ceramic pads as they are not only better for stopping distance but the have almost no brake dust and no noise. and the guy below me is wrong. you HAVE to lube the caliper slide pins.
Q:This truck has a 7 prong round plug for the trailer. Do I have to buy a brake booster for this year, or is the brake booster built in to work automatic when I tow a trailer?
I have a 99 F150 XLT 5.4L Supercab. I tow a 18 foot flatbed with it. The truck came with the towing package but it didn't have a brake controller. I bought a controller at WalMart then I went to my local parts store and bought the pigtail that plugs the controller into the trucks wiring harness (there's a plug under the dash just to the right of the steering column) and I had brakes on my trailer. Your truck is newer so I would go to my local dealer and ask them to check it, they can tell you if it has a brake controller or not or, if you can't get to a dealer, call one and ask what a brake controller looks like and where it's located then go check your truck yourself.
Q:I have a 2001 Chevy Lumina and the brakes have been working just fine, but this morning when I started for work I pressed the brake and my car almost didn‘t stop, what would cause this. It was very cold last night would this have something to do with it? I did pump them and sometimes they would catch like they used to sometimes the pedal would go all the way to the floor.
Have it checked!! As an inspection mechanic, I fail many brake lines that are on the verge of blowing out. Especially me being on the east coast, I replace a LOT of rusty brake lines. Most cars are set up so you will not lose front and rear brakes at the same time, but DON'T TAKE CHANCES get it to a shop asap, and have it towed if it is really bad. Especially if its just slowly bleeding down now, that could be a small leak that could suddenly become a big leak! If your reservoir is full and nothing is dripping off the bottom of the car when you press the brake, it could be an internally leaking master cylinder, which is a less dangerous situation, but still have it checked
