Q: how do you check the water pump? We started the engine with water running through the bunny ears and no water is running out.
if its hooked up on the hose, and it doesnt piss, you replace the pump like you should of already done as part of routine maintence. and since you are behind on maintaining that, you are probably behind on everything else too..... the yamaha guy, if your hose only has 5 psi of water pressure instead of the usual 30-40 psi, that is still 5 psi more then the lake has. running on a hose makes it easier for the pump to move water through the engine. even if your impeller has totally broken into pieces, the hose will still push water through your engine all by itself.
Q: I took my car to a repair shop today, cause it was overheating,After looking at it for a few minutes the mechanic told me that it was a water pump problem. They quoted me a price of $276 to totally replace itI called around to my local auto zone stores and found out that the actuall pump cost for a new pump was $39 dollars, and I can get rebuilt pumps for 19 bucks, Is it that labor intensive that it would take so long to put in a 39 dollar part for over 200 bucks labor. Is that a fair deal, or am I getting ripped off.Additional Details, I didn't let them do the job yet, I took the vehicle home and just parked it in my driveway.
water pumps do not take that long to replace, i did the one on my car in about an hour, they probably quoted you a price on a dealer, or manufactures water pump, which is much more expensive i would get a price at a smaller garage possibly or look into doing it yourself,
Q: i wanna use a water pump to pump air...but im afraid that it might burn or sth....
the pump designed for water will not work very well at all (any type of pump). its effieciecy will be very low. you will have low volume and low pressure. the pump will also be damaged, making it unsuitable to use as a water pump after its failed attempt at use as an air pump. Why dont you find an air blower? if your experimenting you can find one in every car heater system, so check out the car wreckers yard. Car heater air blowers are high volume low pressure. If you want a big unit get one out of a bus! If you want a high pressure low volume air pump you could use an old refrigerator compressor, or a standard air compressor. hope this helps..
Q: Recently my car overheated on my way to work, and so I decided to give it some much needed TLC.I have replaced all in the last week:Spark PlugsDistributor Cap + RotorTiming BeltRelated to the cooling system:Water PumpThermostatAnd the heater still blows hot air so I believe the heater core is fine. Unfortunately even after a couple of radiator flushes the car continues to overheat. I'm considering replacing the radiator because I think it might have too much debris inside to flow properly.I used ZEREX Radiator Super Cleaner but was only able to acheive an hour and a half of driving before my car would not be able to drive anymore. (Supposed to be 3 hours, car temperature began to escalate far beyond what I'm confortable with) I also used ZEREX Radiator Super Flush to no avail.Any suggestions?Car info:Toyota Camry DX 19913S-FE Engine 2.0L I4 1998cc244,500 miles
is your cooling fan working? my guess is it isnt and thats why you overheat. theres a thermal switch for the fan... that may be bad or your cooling fan motor could be bad
Q: My water pump broke on my volkswagen golf tdi so I took it to a garage. He charged me ?250 for a new pump and fitting. When I came to collect it he showed me the broken water pump, when I asked if I could keep the broken pump that was taken out of my car he said that there would be quite a quot;heftysurcharge for me to take it with me because they have to send them back to Volkswagen. I thought it was a bit strange. Is that normal?
What you're talking about is what we in America call a Core charge. If I buy a new water pump for my car and take it home to do it myself, the pump is going to cost me $80. There is also a core charge of another $20 from the parts store that I use. So I'm paying $100 to take home my water pump. However, if I were to have brought in my old pump to exchange it...then I would only pay the $80 for the part. Or if I took it home at $100 and then returned the old one after I got my car fixed...then they'd give me the the $20 back. The reason for this is that a lot of companies can recondition these parts and make them as good as new. This is a hell of a lot cheaper than buying new components to make new parts. Say a water pump is leaking only because the seals in it are failing. They can take it apart, replace the seals (and anything that looks like it needs replacing, clean it all up, and put it back together. And that reconditioned water pump (which has a warranty that's the same as the new part and often times better) would usually be sold for $60. So likely that's what's going to happen to it. It'll go back to VW so they can re-manufacture it and recycle it for use in another car that needs a water pump.
Q: We have 2 1995 E320's that are heating up way too high when running. One has been diagnosed at the repair shop for a malfunctioning fan clutch. They also said that as the car was running hot the water pump and thermostat should also be replaced (??) The water pump is 5.5 hours of labor and I cannot afford it right now. I was wondering how hard to replace it myself. Thanks

Q: What does water flow mean?
Forehead... Flow do not understand it....
Q: In the past 9 months, Ive went through 6 or 7 gallons of antifreeze, I was told this was not normal. Ive had my coolant tank flushed 4 times this year, only to be told thats not normal and one lasts a few years. Now that its colder outside my car takes a while to run hot of course, but during the summer it ran hot in about 15 minutes tops. I got a brand new coolant tank before I got another flush because I did have a leak, but that did not combat the problem. I had my radiator looked at and I was told thats fine. So im thinking either a cracked head gasket or a bad water pump...help please. im getting tired of putting money into this car only for the same stuff to keep happening.
IM leaning toward a cracked head gasket due to the fact that you are losing mass coolant, its going out the tailpipe if there are no puddles under the car, if there are green puddles under the car, your water pump may be leaking too. Cracked head gaskets do not always dump coolant in the oil. You do not mention year make and model, this sometimes helps as some models are famous for blowing head gaskets. you need a mechanic to do a pressure test of your radiator, if you lose coolant, its time to replace the broken parts, its only getting worse. good luck.fix it before it ruins the whole motor.
Q: we changed the water pump it went bad and there is still a knock in it please help it is running really sluggish
STOP DRIVING THE CAR!!!! It is broken and you are making it way worse. Its like walking with a broken foot with no crutches for the car! Find a towing service immediately. What town do you live in? I can look for a european car repair shop for you. Greg is right, you probably blew the engine, so unless you have money for a new engine installed, I would let it go. If you have a 328i it will be like $5000 and it goes up from there.
Q: Help?Water is to be pumped to the top of a skyscraper. If the pump can create a gauge pressure (pressure above atmospheric pressure) of 8.50E+5 Pa, what is the height of the tallest building that it can service? DATA: g=9.8 m/s^2
