Our Project
- Q: About 3 weeks ago our water stopped. We replaced the switch at the pump and it was fine. Today when I was running water, it stopped again. I went and flipped the breaker on it, but it still didn't come on. About 20 minutes later, it started working again. Have you ever had this happen or do you know what the problem could be?
- You mentioned that you flipped the breaker...was the breaker tripped? If so...then your pump is overheating, and tripping the breaker. Possibly some bare wires rubbing together in the well pipe might cause it too. If the breaker isn't tripping...then you may have a problem with the well itself. If it's going dry...the pump will shut itself down when the water stops flowing through it...rather than sit there and run until it burns itself up! Hopefully it's just a bad breaker! :-) Good Luck!!

- $70-$150 +cost of pump. Most shops have certain maintenance hours for certain jobs. Call around for exact pricing. Honestly, if you have a sockets (metric) and wrenches you can do it yourself in about an hour or two, maybe less. You don't have to mechanically inclind to replace the water pump on the 97 Wrangler. If you do it, I do recommend buying a Haynes/Chilton's book if you don't really have a clue. If you need to buy the tools, book, pump (gasket should come with it), water pump RTV, and coolant. That will still be a lot cheaper than paying somebody. Plus, you will get the joy of doing it yourself. Also, you could put the savings into a high-flow pump, vice original equipment.
- Q: replaced water pump and thermostat, flushed, opened bleeder valve had long life red colored original coolant, no visible leaks obstruction, when became hot on highway, accelerated quickly and temp back down to norm, eventually after 3hrs driving o.heated stopped and got towed home, new water pumps fins/pulley not turning as freely as old one, no leak out of inspection hole, hoses good shape.2001 2.2l ohv sunfire, air cond.
- get your vehicle up to operating temps and runs your hand along the core of the radiator from top to bottom. If it's cold at the bottom and hot at the top, it's plugged... Also I see where you bleed the system, might wanna check it again... air pockets are stubborn... Last but not least, have a C.O. test performed at a local radiator/automotive shop... This will tell you if you have a blown head gasket

- If what you mean with surface water pumps are those pumps mounted on the ground to distinguish them from submersible pumps , yes there are surface pumps that can pump water from a 1000 ft well. These are the so called jet pumps or deep well pumps wherein part of the output water is returned back to the bottom of the well pipe through the space between the outer pipe casing and the inner pipe and passed through a venturi opening to create an upward water jet which will push more water upward.

- It depends on which engine you have, with or without a supercharger. The non-supercharged engine is a piece of cake. the supercharged one is a bit of a pain to get at the water pump. On the non-supercharged engine, all you need to do is remove the serpentine belt, the water pump pulley and the bolts that hold the water pump to the front cover. I have detailed instructions if you send me your email address I can give them to you. They are from GM Service Information website. I can't give you the link to the website because I have to enter a password to enter the site through work.

- Q: it was fine before the water pump was done garage says it is just a coincidence? but could the water pump effect the heating?
- I am going to think your fan is working and switch. If they changed the water pump, they might have broken some debris or sealant that is clogging your heater intake hose or heater core. I would start with finding the intake and return hoes for the heater core and back flush the heater core. Did this to my old truck and the heater worked really good after that. You did not say what year the car was does it have its own belt for the water pump? is that in working order? GL
- Q: I have a 2005 Mazda RX8 and I was wondering if upgrading the water pump on my car would void the warranty I have with Mazda. I know such modifications such as air intakes and exhaust systems do not void warranty. The Magnuson Moss Warranty Act says Legally, a vehicle manufacturer cannot void the warranty on a vehicle due to an aftermarket part unless they can prove that the aftermarket part caused or contributed to the failure in the vehicle. So is it safe to say it's alright to install? Thanks!
- put it on...what if the stock pump wore out...you and most others will not put a gen u ine mazda pump on it...in reality its replaced with a aftermarket pump
- Q: Iv got a 2002 Chrysler Sebring with a 2.7 in it and recently it started leaking coolant, its been determined that i need a new water pump. Iv gotten quotes from various places and various prices but there all telling me i need to replace different things. One guy said i need a timing kit, the other guy said i dont need a timing kit but need valave covers and a couple other things, another said i dont need anything but the pump itself. Im lost and the leaks getting worse and i need to make a decision but dont know what to do. Some insight from you helpful people would be great!
- Usually water pumps just go, and you can't drive the car until it is replaced. They leak horribly before too long. Just keep putting water in it, but it will leak out as fast as you put it in there. A mechanic removes the water pump and puts a new one on. Nothing else has to be replaced. Go to the mechanic who said only the pump needs to be replaced. He sounds correct - although I am sure a 2002 car may need a couple of other things done to it.
- Q: my 98 expedition keeps over heating, i replaced the water pump, thermostat,coolant. it will be fine one minute then it overheats. weather im on the road or sitting at a light. i also replaced the fan clutch. thanks!
- Check the compression,could be a broken ring.
