- Q:1979 camaro with a 3 speed manual transmission. Would swapping to a 4 speed or 5 speed transmission be as simple as dropping out the 3 speed transmission and hooking up another 4/5 gear transmission or would this require the changing of more parts inherently?
- The 4 or 5 speed will likely be longer than the 3 speed is so you will likely need to relocate the transmission cross member and get a shorter drive shaft. Camaros were available with 4 speeds in 1979 so the holes for the cross member mounting location will already be in your sub-frame (just a little farther back from where it is now). If you can find one, which isn't likely, a junk yard drive shaft from a 4 speed Camaro or Firebird would be perfect, but you won't have any trouble getting a new shaft from Denny's Drive Shaft or other aftermarket sources. They weren't available with 5 speed boxes until the 3rd generation cars hit the market, but you can swap in a 5 speed into your 2nd generation car with little trouble. There are plenty of aftermarket parts that make it a fairly simple job.
- Q:Isuzu 2002 rodeo sport v6, automatic transmissionCan i find a gauge that can be easy installed without drilling? Can I install some gauge directly into the overfill plug hole or drain plug hole?
- Don't know that car brand, but 'most' cars with an automatic tranny have a tranny fluid cooler built into the radiator. Look at the side tank of the radiator for two metal thin tubes going into the tank - Those would be the cooler lines. Crawl under follow the lines back to the tranny. You'll have to identify which line is the OUT which is the return. Should be able to get some tubing fittings install the temp sensor for the gage right where the line attaches to the tranny.
- Q:I‘m most likely going to be buying a 66 mustang coupe, it has a 200ci 6 cylinder engine with a 3 speed transmission. I know the engine‘s good, I may or may not change it out to a v8 tho. I‘ve never had a 3 speed before, will it be alright or should I change it out to a 4 or 5 speed?
- if the engine is mounted transversely the oil will slide around on turns. put some more oil in it and you should be fine. there is the possibility one of the electrical connections is loose or there is a wiring problem. this requires inspecting all the wires going to and from the sensor and the light.
- Q:The transmission in my car has been slipping from the past week. I bought this car a month ago and the owner just did an oil change at Wal-Mart right before I bought it. Today I brought my car to a transmission shop and they said since the transmission fluid is clean (obviously, since it has just been changed), the problem is not due to the wrong transmission fluid but the mechanical part of the transmission. But I noticed that my car is a Mitsubishi and it needs Diamond ATF SPIII instead of Dexron III. Should give transmission flush a try?
- A transmission flush is a waste of money and not worth the time and effort that it causes. fluid does not make a transmission slip its internal wear and tear from use and abuse. You already know the transmission needs to be rebuilt dont just throw money into it hoping the slipping will go away. The transmission is slipping because of excessive wear on some internal parts no fluid can reverse the missing clutch material of a worn out transmiission The latest thing those lube N screw lube places are trying is a FLUSH this usually causes more damage than it cures the best thing to do is have a jluid exchange this does not involve a chemical additive and a flush. It involves only clean highly detergent fluid into your transmission. You dont need anymore additives than is already in tranny fluid. There are lots of additives to keep your transmission super clean anyway in the form of high detergent flushibg is a waste of money and a scam.
- Q:i want to know the type of electrical cable commonly used in transmission of electricity.
- The lines of high-voltage transmission systems are usually composed of wires of copper, aluminum, or copper-clad or aluminum-clad steel, which are suspended from tall latticework towers of steel by strings of porcelain insulators. By the use of clad steel wires and high towers, the distance between towers can be increased, and the cost of the transmission line thus reduced. In modern installations with essentially straight paths, high-voltage lines may be built with as few as six towers to the kilometer. In some areas high-voltage lines are suspended from tall wooden poles spaced more closely together. For lower voltage distribution lines, wooden poles are generally used rather than steel towers. In cities and other areas where open lines create a safety hazard or are considered unattractive, insulated underground cables are used for distribution. Some of these cables have a hollow core through which oil circulates under low pressure. The oil provides temporary protection from water damage to the enclosed wires should the cable develop a leak. Pipe-type cables in which three cables are enclosed in a pipe filled with oil under high pressure (14 kg per sq cm/200 psi) are frequently used. These cables are used for transmission of current at voltages as high as 345,000 V (or 345 kV).
- Q:Basically, I'm wondering what sorts of mistakes you can make when you're driving that are harmful to your transmission.
- The main thing would be is hard starts. It puts a lot of unnecessary pressure on it.
- Q:I dropped the transmission pan drained fluid on my 93 with 3.3 motor and four speed automatic. How do you remove the filter and the fluid in the converter?
- I would expect that the filter is held in place with a retaining bolt or bolts. Look for the location of bolt hole(s) on the new filter. Or consult a service and repair manual for the make and model of your vehicle. While you are looking at the manual check for a procedure to change the fluid in the torque converter. That procedure may require the services of a transmission or automobile service shop.
- Q:in a auto magazine it says 5 speed does that mean manual transmission? or could it mean automatic?
- Ok, it is commonly accepted that 5-speed is referring to a manual transmission. Generally if someone tells you that its a 5-speed, its going to be a manual. Granted that the correct term would be manual, or standard transmission, most people who say 5 speed mean its a manual. Alot of automatic transmissions are 4-speeds, but this is not always the case. If you are unsure, it is usually a good idea to ask.
- Q:Hey need some help with this. I have over 100,000 miles on my dodge RAM and debating on getting the transmission flushed. What exactley does the flush do and how does it work?
- Try the motorcycle section, Road is what you ride on rode is the past tense of ride.
- Q:the tranny went out in my 97 gtp, would any 97 grand prix transmission work or does it have to be a special transmission because its super charged?
- the 97 is a 4T65E transmission and since its a super charged transmission you will need a super charged transmission to go back into it since the gear ratio's will be different then a non super charged transmission and only way to correct the differences would to be to pull transmissions apart
