- Q: I have a honda 2000 civic lx bought it froma friend 1 yr ago has 79,750 miles on it and I checked the transmission fluid this morning and it‘s a light brown color-I thought transmission fluid was suppose to be pink or red. Well not having any problems with the transmission but I know I should have it changed soon since it‘s dirty. But my husband can‘t do it till next weekend he is not a mechanic but does do the oil changes and smalll things like so, he says changing the transmission fluid is simple, so my question is will it be okay to wait till next weekend and how hard is it to change the fluid and do we need to change a filter?? I know we have to only use the honda transmission fluid. Thanks guys!!!!
- You should have NO WORRIES, it is not near as important as the oil changes. To get the max life out of your car though, go with the severe service intervals for all your maintenance. This usually means trans fluid drain and top-off ever 30k. Very easy to change - pull drain plug on side of transmission case - usually a 3/8 socket drive size. Leave it to drain. Replace plug and top off with the correct amount of ATF. My accord takes exactly 2.5 quarts. Note: For regular ATF, yes use Honda brand. But, I recommend Amsoil synthetic to all my customers. I have 3 Hondas that all have Amsoil - 95 Odyssey 230k miles, 94 Accord wagon 227k miles and 94 Accord sedan 281k miles. Synthetic stays much cooler and thus does not breakdown and turn brown like your current ATF. Temperature is the reason for failure in 90% of transmission issues. To switch over, just drain and top the ATF at each oil change. You should have it mostly switched over after about 4 changes. After this, you can easily go 60k on the ATF drains. The synthetic oil and the extended life oil filters are rated at 25k miles though I usually only double the Honda interval of 7500 with 15k changes. This makes it just as cheap to use the expensive synthetic. ($7/qt and $9 filters) compared to 3k oil changes with regular oil ($2/qt*5 and $3/filter*5).
- Q: after driving and stopping repeatedly, transmission will slip and transmission fluid becomes pink
- Replace the radiator An automatic transmission is cooled by passing the transmission fluid through passages inside the radiator. There is a leak in this passage. This leak is internal and can not be repaired. The radiator must be replaced. Do this ASAP. I would not drive this car until the radiator is replaced. You are on the verge of destroying your transmission. When this happens, it will cost more money to replace the transmission than this old beater is worth. You could buy another old Honda that is a few years newer for what it would cost to have the transmission replaced. A new radiator would cost a fraction of this amount.
- Q: I have checked the owner‘s manual and it does not give the location of the automatic transmission fluid or what kind. Any ideas on how to find it? The car will not go in reverse and I am taking it to my mechanic tomorrow but I just want to check the fluid myself today. And yes its probably not the fluid but the transmission, which is a total bummer.
- could desire to be secure, yet additionally could desire to be ineffective. Magic in a can can't end any leak, everywhere on an vehicle. superb guess is to get the leak fastened, rather of going low-value and dropping the money.
- Q: saturn 2002 sl200 needs a transmission pan, filter fluid and a new solenoid. needs est. of labor hours for solenoid seperate.
- Do you mean the line pressure control (LPC) solenoid? (There are several solenoids in any transmission, but the LPC is the one that most commonly fails.) A local transmission shop (see below) takes five hours to replace a LPC solenoid. If you go by the book they should be charging for more like three hours. Not a cheap job, and not one for an inexperienced person lacking specialized equipment either. Of course, it goes without saying that you would have prevented its failure (and the expensive repairs!) altogether, if you'd serviced the transmission in accordance with the manufacturer's maintenance schedule.
- Q: I need to know exactly where a transmission filter is found on a 1995 Ford Aerostar, and how you go about getting to it.
- The transmission filter is located, are ya ready? In the transmission.Yes,you need to remove the crossmember below tranny, remove bolts around pan bottom and filter will be in there.Check for fine metal shavings.Little is ok,a lot could be a sign of a rebuild on the way.If not mechanically savy,go to a transmission shop.Filter/fluid changes usually run $60-$100 and are well worth the money.
- Q: Why have a lot of manufacturers stopped putting manual transmissions in their vehicles?
- A lot of manufactures have stopped putting manual in the vehicles because its cheaper and they would be easier to maintain/repair as if it were a manual it would need the new clutch, clutch cylinder and much more
- Q: Where is a good, cheap place in the austin texas area to get my automatic transmission drained and filter replaced?
- I would trust the dealer before any Quicky Lube places. They will have the correct fluid (which is very important) and filter in stock. They will also have certified mechanics working on your car, and not some inexperienced kid just out of high school. You can expect to pay 75 dollars or so, which may be a little higher, but it will be done right. I have seen many blown up transmissions come as a result of poor maintenence or poor service work. A few bucks now could save a nightmare in the future. Just my 2 cents. Good Luck
- Q: recently put on a lot of new parts. well now my transmission is acting up, no leaks that i can see. could it be because my transmission fluid is wrong, the manual says T2 the lady at auto zone gave me T5
- I own a 2006 Lexus ES 330. The owners manual specifically states using Toyota T2 fluid only. An aftermarket fluid isn't recommended either (example- Mobil 1, pennzoil, etc.) It warns that shifting problems, transmission damage, transmission lock-up or other problems are likely to occur. Go to your Toyota or Lexus dealer and buy 2 jugs of the Toyota brand T2. change the fluid, drive it for a while, then change it again. this is necessary because half of the fluid stays in the tourque converter when you drain the transmission. double changing the fluid will give you an approximate dilution of 75% good Toyota T2 fluid in your transmission. Three changes would be even better. If your car has over 100,000 km's (60,000 mi) since the last fluid change, Then it's due for a fluid change anyway.
- Q: Hello i have a 1995 Nissan Maxima 5 spd and i basically drained the tranny oil by pulling out the neutral safety switch. i need to know how to fill the transmission with tranny oil again, (their is no tranny oil dipstick)
- There is a plug about 1/3 of the way up on the transmission that you need to take out and fill with oil to the level of the plug, older vehicles used 80-90w in the manual transmissions, however new rules say that a high quality 10w-30 is better for the gears bearings and seals. This is what the shop I just had some transmission work done a month ago told me they put in my rebuilt manual transmission out of an 87 Samurai. So either one will work just fine. However you may want to go with 80-90 since there is a little left in there.
- Q: I have an automatic 2002 Mitsubishi Eclipse. I recently started noticing it felt like it was jumping into gears when accelerating. I decided to get my transmission fluid changed, because it was black, in hopes that would fix it. It‘s been a couple weeks, but feels the exact same as before, the change didn‘t do anything. Do you think it‘s the transmission? Should I wait for it to completely break, or try to get it fixed before anymore damage happens?
- TaylorMade R9 irons they are cavity backed clubs that have had a lot of RD involved.
