Q: I not an expert on arrow dynamics, but I really want to know if you put a wing on your car, will say mounted centered on your cars balance point. Lets say this wing wasn‘t like those ricers trying to produce down force so there civic doesn‘t fly off the highway, but a wing that produced lift, this could improve the gas mileage of your car. I‘m thinking it could even be mechanical in some way providing various amounts of lift, but on the highway you could make a 3000lb car drive like it was 2000lbs. That‘s a big *** difference, i just don‘t know how crazy drag would be on the wing itself, but I was just reading about something called the tube plane, a large percentage of its lift was created with the main body of the plane, technology is a far larger market than oil, driving around in vehicles shaped like bricks isn‘t helping MPG‘s. Any comments
Lighter cars have smaller engines, which in turn should have the best gas mileage. (exp: Motorcycles get better mileage per gallon than cars) As for your theory, it has some faults. Consider the following: 1) If you have a wing pushing down to pull the car up, you will not have the best contact to the road. Less tire pressure on the road is wasted energy. Possibly resulting in more RPMs. Planes don't use their wheels except to brake due to this. 2) The wing would cause more drag than would be of any help in reducing gas mileage; at least in my knowledge of drag. Even though planes are very 'slippery', the down force of their wings is their biggest drag. If you look at modern jets, they have swept back wings to give lift, but swept back to provide better distance and speed. 3) There are cars out there that have almost a 0 (although it would probably never happen) air drag co-efficient. The less air drag on a car, the more economical it is with fuel. Also, if you notice, many sports cars have body's that are VERY low to the ground. The lowest amount of air to go under the car gives you an even better air drag. AlsoWhile many cars look like 'bricks' (Chrysler 300 comes to mind), they actually bend the wind around the car quite well. Think of it this way: It has been proven that a pick-up truck gets better gas mileage with their tail-gate up, rather than down. (air gets 'caught' in the bed rather than just flowing over the entire truck - see mythbusters) Its not a matter of the air simply flowing over the vehicle, but being able to move out of the car's way. Thats the 'bending' part. (I don't quite get it, but I'm sure you can find more information out there about it) Don't stop thinking though. You might be onto something, but just not there yet. Try looking at the tires. They are actually a cars biggest drag factor. (good 'ol friction and heat) Good luck in your search of knowledge.
Q: I drive 50 MPH in high winds driving against the wind. What are the chances of my car lifting up?
A - Brake Fluid is for brakes, not engines B - Unless you have an actual sludge problem, you do not need to use a flush. As a matter of fact, at a certain level, sludge could be disturbed and clog passages in the engine. Use a quality oil, it will fight the formation of sludge, especially a synthetic of semi-synthetic oil. C - If you confirm you have a sludge problem, there are engine flushes available. You drive to a quick-change place, put the flush in, and let it circulate, then get a hot oil change to drain it all out. But only if you confirm you have a sludge problem. If you want to use an additive to gently clean out sludge before it becomes a proble, use Rislone concentrate, not STP. Even the STP people don't claim to help with sludge in any way. It is good for restoring compression in worn engines. Pick up a bottle of STP Oil Treatment and shake it. Note it doesn't shake. That is thick goo you would be adding to the crankcase, goo that makes a thicker cushion between moving engine parts. Pick up a bottle of Rislone concentrate, and note it shakes about quite easily. Read the labels on both bottles before you take my word for it.
Q: I took my car for tire replacement and my car was dropped twice from the lift. I would say that the car was dropped from a height of 4 feet. I got an incident report from the manager and now I think I should take the car to some other shop for inspection. There are no visible damages but I think dropping from 4 feet is not something that cars are made to withstand. The car was dropped twice, one time I saw it myself, the other time I only heard the noise and noticed the mechanics putting additional jacks under the car. Upon asking, I was told that they just want to be careful that the front of the car doesn‘t drop to the ground while the rest of the car is still on the lift. Now, I am not sure where to take the car for inspection and whether a mechanic can pinpoint the problems resulting from this incident. Any suggestions?
You got the wrong kind of tires. The tire salesman should have noticed.
Q: This is my first jeep and the first car that i am lifting and have a couple of questions. I have a 1995 Jeep wrangler rio grande manual trans. i bought two inch shackles and want to put on a one inch body lift I am not sure if a need a pitman drop or a transfer case drop. can someone explain to me what i have to do besides just a lift. Thank you
I buy the Downy wrinkle release it works great you just spray it on and shake your shirt it will come out. amazing stuff.
Q: Suppose the piston in hydraulic lift has a cross-sectional area of 0.10 m2. a. What air pressure must be produced by the air compressor to support 14,000 N, the combined weight of car and lift? b. Why is the area of the liquid surface in the reservoir irrelevant, yet the cross-sectional area of the piston very relevant?
Pressure is a measure of force per unit area, so to determine the pressure needed to balance a force of 14kN over an area of 0.10 m^2, use the simple formula: p F/A 14,000/0.10 140,000 N/m^2 (or 140,000 Pa 140 kPa) The area of the reservoir does not matter because the pressure will be the same throughout the entire reservoir no matter what the cross-sectional area is, and there is no load within the reservoir. As for the piston, however, when dealing with loads/forces, the force exerted by the fluid depends on the cross-sectional area over which the pressure acts (see formula above). For a given pressure, the force exerted by the fluid increases as cross-sectional area increases. Hope this helps!
Q: A car weighing W 9.7 kN is to be lifted by the force of the large piston. (a) What force Fa must be applied to the small piston? Enter a number.(b) When the small piston is pushed in by 8.9 cm, how far is the car lifted? Enter a number. (c) Find the mechanical advantage of the lift, which is the ratio W / Fa. W / Fa Enter a number.
(a) As pressures are the same on both the ends, F/(2.11)^2 9700/(10.5)^2 so,F185.64N
Q: 2 cars are being lifted up to the same height in a garage, car A weighs 1000 kgs and car B weighs 2000 kgs, write the letter A for car A, letter B for car B or write the letter C if the answer is both.1. It requires more work to lift up car ____2. Car ___ has more potential gravitational energy.3. If both cars fall, car ___ will accelerate more.4. If both cars fall, car___ will fall with more momentum.5. If both cars fall, car ____ will fall with more kinetic energy
at normal mileages it is fine . but if you have gone a very long time without a service, you could run into problems. by a long time i mean 75000 -100,000 miles. you can run into problems at lower durations, but that does not happen very often. if you look at the fluid condition prior to theat flush you can kind of guess the results. if the fluid is dark and smells like varnish, (back away)
