Q:I bought some new front tires for my car (2010 kia forte) a little over a year ago. I expected them to last at least 40k miles, but when I went into my neighborhood tire shop to get them rotated, they told me the tires needed to be replaced. This is at about 20k miles of use. My rear tires are a little older and don‘t have much life left in them either. They didn‘t rotate them, but I opted not to get new tires yet until I asked these questions. My question:How long should a typical tire last? Are my driving habits making me lose life in my tires at a shorter rate? I drive normally to work, home and social locations across the city, but we do encounter quite a bit of traffic.Do I need an alignment of some sort?I am contemplating going ahead and getting all new tires this weekend, but I want to make sure I don‘t need to do anything additional to ensure the life of my tires because replacing them every year will be a pain!!!Thank you in advance!
Where is it leaking from? How much is leaking out? Additives are kind of a last resort solution that never work out the way you'd hoped. It could be as simple as a value cover gasket. Easily replaced by youself in the driveway.
Q:They‘re tires, just huge. All cars have tires yet I only hear that whirrrrring sound on those trucks with huge tires.
It's all in the tread pattern, offroad designed tires as put on truck enthusiast have knobby tread which grabs onto dirt and mud and whatever else is unfortunate to get under them. On the road these hit the ground and make a pronounced noise especially at interstate speeds (and of course higher). Car tires can make noise too, mostly run flat tires and from what I've seen a lot of Bridgestone Potenzas. You probably wouldn't notice it unless you were driving a well sound insulated car as wind noise can easily cover this up. My grandmothers car (a Nissan Maxima) the rear tires drive me nuts.
Q:Two of my tires got pretty much destroyed by something sharp in the road. One of the tires had a warranty since i just got it last year. It was from pepboys. When the tow truck came he brought me to a tire place since pep boys was far away. I could only afford to buy one new tire, so i got it then used my spare as the other tire. This happened about a week ago so if I go to pep boys can I use the warranty to get a new tire? But i do not have the flat tire with me. The other place got rid of it when they put the new tire on.So will pep boys still accept the warranty without any proof?
off their site: Replacement Road Hazard Warranty can save you the expense of tire replacement. If your Pep Boys tire becomes unusable due to a road hazard related mishap and cannot be repaired, we will, subject to pro-rated adjustment based upon the remaining usable tread on the tire, replace the unusable tire or give you a refund. While Pep Boys will remount the tire for free, there will be a cost for re-balancing the replacement tire. Coverage extends to such damage as unrepairable tread punctures damage from potholes, nails, glass and jagged metal which cause cuts, snags, punctures, impact breaks, bruises and rim cuts. sounds like you will need to have the tyre to get the warranty. You should always replace tyres in pairs.
Q:I have a tire where the sides are cracked though the treat is near perfect. It‘s on a car we only drive on occasion.
Sounds like your tires are weather cracked. The tires have a DOT number on them, that number is on both sides of the tire and on one side it has 4 numbers on the end of the DOT that indicate the week and year the tire was made. EX, 2409 would mean the tire was made the 24th week of 2009. All tire manufactures recommend replacing tires that are 7 years old or older. Even if your tires are not that old they can weather crack. For the most part they are only surface cracks and not critical but if they sit long enough the cracks can be worse. You have no recourse with the tire manufacture. Sorry.
Q:or how can i find out? I have a 1995 monte carlo z34also can you get any rims; is it just the tire that matters?
maybe the tranny is on the way out; but i would change the tran fluid before you go further it costs around 99s because honda seems strong car
Q:I‘m getting ready to purchase new tires and Im not sure what kind to get.Is there a big difference in regular tires and snow tires?I really need some good honest advice on this. Thanks so much for any help.
Snow tires (also known as winter tires) have tread patterns specifically designed to dig down and bite into snow and ice, plus they are made from softer rubber compounds that retain their flexibility in cold weather, allowing the tire to better conform to the surface of the road. Regular tires tend to get hard and brittle in cold temperatures As a result, winter tires keep a better grip on snowy and icy surfaces than regular all-season or summer tires
Q:I have a set of studded snow tires on my truck. Some of the studs are flat and no longer grip the ice. I would like to replace the flattened carbide studs but I cannot find replacements. These are not the wheel studs that hold the wheel on to the vehicle, these are the studs in the studded tires.
complicated subject. do a search on yahoo and bing. just that may help!
Q:24 hour tire shop
Tire shop? Or do you mean Tyre Shope?
Q:Which tires would be best for my 08 Buick Lucerne. I get a lot of snow in my area, so the best all season tire?
According to the so-called Hurt Report of 1981 (Harry Hurt), the number of mc accidents caused by catastrophic tire failure was negligible. Tires are so much better now that I have never heard of a blow-out on one. I have suddenly lost pressure in the front and again in the rear due to cracked valve stems. Both times I was doing over 50 mph. Neither time did I have a problem controlling the bike. I ride a Valkyrie which weighs about 700 lbs.
Q:Which number in the tire size determines the profile of the tire...and is the smaller the number the lower profile
It would help if you had given an example for your question, but since you didn't - I'll give you one of my own. My truck came with the tire size 195/75/14 The tire is 195 millimeters wide. The middle number 75 tells you the aspect ratio. There is a complicated formula that I could lay out there, but it probably won't help ya. A 75 series tire (if the 1st and last number are unchanged) will be a taller tire than a 40 series tire. 14 inches tells you the diameter of the wheel or rim that the tire is mounted on. This part you cannot change. A 14 inch wheel must have a 14 inch tire mounted on it. You can do some different sizes on the first two numbers. For instance I did not like the skinny look that the tire had so I bought some "fatter" looking tires for the 14 inch wheel (rim) I used a 235/60/14. This made the tire 40 millimeters wider while keeping the overall height of the tire very close to the same, which makes the speedometer stay correct.
