Q:the chair has a back that is hinged and swings up about 8 inches. it is either mahogany or oak and had curved arms
Mahogany Guthridge Chair Dated 1901 Description: This unusual find, an Original Guthridge Convertible Chair. We are not sure what it was used for, and have asked several museums. The chair is solid Mahogany, The back of the chair has a release that allows the chair back to be brought foward on 2 hinges, up about 8 inches from the back. Perhaps used to help and invilide, or as a step,(had to have small feet?, or as what???Maybe one of your Grandparents had one of these. The chair measures 38 inched high to the back, seat 16 inches across in back, 18 inches across in front. Has two sturdy arms. The Brass plaque on the back reads, The Guthridge Chair Pattented July 30,1901 F.M.Guthridge 1435 Wabash Avenue Chicago Country: USA Maker: Guthridge Co. Height: 38 in. (96.52 cm) Width: 16 in. (40.64 cm) Materials: mohagany wood
Q:I have some chairs that have cushions down half the back and on the seat. I want to recushion the top and make it wider and the cushion go all the way down to the seat. (Turn them into Parsons chairs) What would be the easiest way to do this?
I would use foam, wledbond, plywood, string, buttons and fabric. First measure the base of your chair at the seat and figure out the hieght you would like the parsons chairs to be. If you chair is 18 wide at the base, and you want them to be 24 high, then you would need your plywood to be 14 x 21 high {approx.}. You can get this cut for a fee {usually} at any lumber or home improvement store. Take the lumber and attach it to the chair with weldbond and clamps {and l have no idea of your chairs but weldbond works on metal and wood} or anything that will hold it tight while it hardens. Let this be glued firmly and completely dry...for extra security you can tie with rope {it will be covered with the foam} . Get some 2 {or more} thick foam and cut it so you have one long strip that is 50 long by 28 wide. Now on the inside seat part of the back of the chair, take a staple gun {or if you have little hands like me, use a nail and hammer} and attach string every four inches or so in a grid layout} Now take the foam and make holes with a knife or sizzors to line up with string. Take your weld-bond and spread it evenly over the plywood {be generous} front and back. Take the foam and lay it beginning on the inside bottom edge, pulling through the string as you apply it to the glued surface, bring it over the top, and then down the back of the chair, you will have excess on the sides and final bottom edge, but this can be trimmed later. leave to dry on the floor lightly tie and hold in place with string. Take fabric and cut to the same size, drape it in the same manner, making holes and pulling through string Attach with upholstorers nails. Tke the string and attach big beautiful funky buttons. They will look fabulous!!!
Q:Computer chair pressure bar lifting principle problem?
The gas spring can be stopped at any position in the stroke by means of a release device and has a large locking force after being stopped (up to 10000N or more).
Q:My dad had a chair with this build, but without the cushy padding, and the arm-rests, it was simpler. Anyway, his broke and I wanted to see if i could dig up an old one like the one he had.

Q:I am looking to purchase for a teen and a tween a lounge type chair - something is bright colors (one green/one pink) similar to a bean bag chair, but with a little more substance or back support. I saw one on PBTeen, but it is almost $200 each.Does anyone have any suggestions on where I might find one maybe for about $100? I've seen some really cheap looking ones - kind of like an extreme bright shiny vinyl which I didn't like. It also should be light enough and easy enough for them to bring from their bedrooms to the basement for TV watching with friends.

Q:I need some advice! For my wedding we will be borrowing tables and metal folding chairs. I already have the tables planned out with white tablecloths and a fuschia tulle runner down the center. My problem is the chairs are really ugly and I need a very cheap idea on how to cover those. We are on a really tight budget ($3,000 for everything)as we are paying for everything ourselves. I was thinking of buying some tulle for the chairs and ribbon, but I wanted to know if anyone would have any idea what that would cost per chair? My colors are fuschia, yellow and orange. Thanks!
This may sound weird..but it works! My friend had the same concern/issue for her reception, so here was what we did... Pillowcases! We went to a few of our local discount/closeout stores that sell bed linens. We bought out all of the white pillow cases they had and even found a few that were in the blue color that she was using for her wedding colors. They came 2 in each pack for only 1.00 to 1.50 per pack (depending on which store we got them from) so we really only pd about .75 or so per chair. here's how to do it.... 1-Slip the case over the back of the chair and pull down just until you reach the seat and the entire back is covered. 2-Standing behind the chair, fold the excess at the top towards you in a way that results in a cuff that is about 3 to 4 wide, 3-fold that down towards you over the back of the chair and pin it to secure. 4-Then use your tuelle and tie a bow to camoflouge the fold. We used wide satin ribbon and created more of a banded look (like a ribbon sash on a wedding gown). We tied it into a knot- without the bow-and left the long streamer-trails. We had also arranged it so that all of the 'knots w/trailing ribbons were more towards the right sides of the chairs, rather than directly in the center. It was very striking and we got a LOT of compliments on it! If you DO use cases in both white and your wedding color, use your wedding color ribbon/netting to tie on the white chairs and then use white ribbon/netting to tie on the color chairs. Hope this helps a little! CONGRATS ON YOUR WEDDING!
Q:i need help i broke the chair that is wooden and we dont have any glue and im hoping that she doesnt find out b/c i would be very introuble and i need help on how to fix it
Go to the store and by wood glue or super glue that can work on wood. Or you can buy her a new chair. Either way she is going to find out. I would try to glue the chair, wait till she gets home and do a fake fall. Act all hurt and cry...maybe she won't be so mad you broke her chair? Good luck.
Q:Lookig for a new desk chair and seen one i like but theres a lot of plastic parts on it mainly the legs. Woundering if its a big deal or just a strong as metal legs ?
I'm sitting on a leather office desk chair that I purchased at Office Depot 10 years ago and have had absolutely no stability problems, breakage or durability problems with the plastic coasters or the the base to which they are attached. The secretary chair which is upholstered is over 15 years old has plastic feet and coasters and hasn't had any issues either. We are very hard on our office furniture and have found plastic to be easy to keep clean and just as durable as metal (which in our case rusted over time on a metal based and castored wingbacked office chair we once had).
Q:Is there a better (meaning cheaper but ergonomically excellent) chair to buy for my home office?
They are great chairs, but there are also some really good ergonomic office chairs at reasonable prices. Here's a good site that has some info about how to choose a good chair and they also have good prices. Hope that helps
Q:well i bought a computer chair and i thought it was $90 but they gave me a $40 one instead (they billed me $40 anyway). I thought that was great until i sat in it. it makes my back too hot and it is uncomfortable. so id like to find some way of replacing, adding to, or just plain fixing the back of my chair. (i have 65$ to spend)
make it easy on a furniture repair shop and take the back from the chair === then take it to an auto upholstery shop and ask what the shopman can do to restuff the back to to better use for you ,,, take the parts with you and get an estimate for the r
