- Q:I have a carpet shampooer machine and my carpet has lots of embedded dirt and dog urine and soda stains. What product would give me the best results?
- Instead of using carpet cleaners use Liquid Tide with bleach. The one that is safe for all colors. The bleach in the liquid tide will kill all of the germs in your carpet. Everyone who has used liquid tide have been really impressed as to how clean the liquid tide works. You also have a choice as to which scent you want to use. Liquid Tide will not ruin your carpets.
- Q:is it okay to wash rugs in the washing machine? it won't damage it, or cause damage to future loads?
- Depends on the care label of the rug. Some rug fibers cannot handle agitation and will clog the filters. Or some rugs will just fall apart. I have washed small throw rugs in my washer fine.
- Q:we are renting a place and the folks that lived their were to say the least,wasn't very nice to the carpet.there are a few bad spots left from the cleaning,landlord want put in new carpet so any Ideas on how to do something besides just covering it up with a room size rug,which I could do,anyone else had this problem?
- The best thing to do with bad carpet is to correct it's behavior. If you have the bad spots left from the carpet cleaning. You should call the carpet cleaning company back to fix those spots. If they use spotters that have surfactants in it. (resolve, Woolite etc.) They leave a sticky residue when they dry. First thing you want to do is get some club soda and some white terry cloth towels. Pour some club soda on the bad spots and rub the terry towels forward and backwords then left and right. This will get all four faces of the carpet. That should take care of the dark spots or at least take the residue off the carpet. Look at your towel if it is black or dirty repeat till it is not. If that does not work. There is a spotter at home depot called Stain Extinguisher by chem dry. It has no surfactants and will not set a stain or damage your carpets. Robert
- Q:i have just bought a thoroughbred who has a very fine coat despite the fact it is winter, he lived out at his previous home but with 2 rugs on. i want to continue having him living out but with so many rugs out there and not having to rug previous horses i am a bit confused! do you have any brands you recomend? how many rugs do you think he will need?i live in england so it can get a bit cold in the winter, i want to rug him because i would rather he keep his nice thin coat and also he is sued to being rugged and what with moving home and meeting all the new horses, not having a rug on might be a bit of a shock to the system!
- I would definitely say that Weatherbeeta are the best brand for affordable but comfortable and hard wearing rugs. I've had my weatherbeeta rugs for two years and only had them washed, not reproofed even though one of my horses is a rug wrecker. I have a TB myself and I know how much of a pain it is to rug them! They are very prone to chills and don't really grow an incredibly fluffy coat. Here in scotland its already reached only 4 degrees at night and my hands are frozen, and plus the wind chill makes it a very cold night. My boys are both in mediumweights without necks at the moment at night and lightweights during the day. However this is also because they are getting clipped next week and I want to prepare them for that and not let them get too soft beforehand! For my TB I have this wardrobe - 1 x Lightweight (Mark Todd brand - very good durable, I would say the best out there) 2 x Mediumweight with and without a neck (both Weatherbeeta) 2 x Heavyweight with and without a neck (Mark Todd and Rambo - very good but very expensive brand) The two of the mediumweight / heavyweights mean that in the midst of winter when it gets absolutely FREEZING I can double rug, putting a mediumweight over a heavyweight or vice versa. I also have stable rugs but that depends on whether you are stabling them or not.

- there's a few things that live in carpets or breed there. but moths are the ones that are famous for holes. the larvae eat the rug then become moths. If you're lucky a little flea spray and the worms will come up so you can see them. start using boric acid or diatomaceous earth (buy the kind for this use not the pool filter material). sprinkle on carpet and brush deep with broom. Vacuum more regularly and put down more boric acid every few months at least.

- I have heard that the chemicals used on NEW carpet is what is dangerous and can cause health problems. You'll know if you have new carpet, by that new carpet smell--which is actually the chemicals used to make and treat the carpet. They can be cancerous in large amounts, although nobody seems to know how much is too much, or what it may do to our nervous system etc. As the carpet ages, the chemicals fade as well, which is why the smell fades out. I have not heard about any long-term dangers from older existing carpet, but it's good that you got it cleaned. Just be careful not to over-clean it because you can get mold to grow deep within the carpet padding and molds can cause respiratory problems for some people who are sensitive to them. It's good you'll vacuum frequently, and if you want to deodorize, try sprinkling baking soda on the carpet instead of the commercial carpet refreshers that can be very strongly perfumed, and full of chemicals as well.
