- Q: We just bought a nice silk rug from a wholesaler, and its 8x11. Since we bought it, it has been shedding like crazy. Is it normal? And how can you tell if it is handmade or machine-made? We bought it for $350.
- Are you sure its silk? A real silk rug machine made in 8 x 11 will be over $1000. Handmade more like $3000 to $30,000. Its more sounds like a mercerized cotton rug. They look about the same. The cotton rug shedds more. Is there a label on the back of the rug with any infomation. Manufacture ? Country of manufacture? Any information will help to track it down. Post it and I will help. Two easy tests: rubb the rug with the palm of you hand, if it feels warm it may be silk. cool its cotton or rayon. One of the best tests is the burn test. Pull a piece of the yarn from the face. Just one will never be missed. Burn it, smells like burning hair, silk. smells like plastic, rayon. Smells like cloth, cotton. Also real silk is very, very strong. Cotton and rayon are must weaker.

- Try okorder for home solutions to remove soda stains from white carpet. You may already have something at home that will work. Be careful on other carpet stain removers because some contain bleach and could ruin your carpet. Good luck!

- Try rolling them the opposite way first and then lay them down the right way. You can also put some heatbond tape around the edges where it's curling up which will stiffen your rug and stop it from curling. The heatbond tape needs to be put on with a very hot industrial iron, so I sugest you take it to a carpet place and ask them if they will do it for you or know anyone that will!! The other thing you could try is sticking some double sided valcro tape to the underside of your rug where it's curled and some to your carpet and stick your carpet rug to the floor.

- I have wood floors all through the house. Solid oak. I have rugs all over the house, most washable, except one in the living room which I clean with woolite. I don't really think they are cold in winter, we have a basement, which is insulated. They can be dusted with a swiffer duster, or a regular dust mop. They do need cleaned, and that is hard work or is for me now, with a bad back. By the way, I bought a shark steam pocket mop, the first time I used it, I sat it down for just a second, to move a candle stand. It make a white mark on my wood floor in the living room. I have rubbed and rubbed on that, I can still see it, no one else would probably notice it now, but be careful with those steam mops on hardwood. They really get hot. Do not let them sit a second without moving them.

- First of all you need some wood and some long nails and a hammer and a staple gun. Take a large flat piece of wood and use as a base. Wrap the carpet around it and staple the carpet on the bottom of the wood. Depending on high you want to make your carpeted climber for your cat, take two pieces of 2 x 4's and nail them together. Wrap the carpet around them and staple gun the ends together and make sure after they are stapled together, that you pound the staples in good and deep so that they don't catch on the cat's claws. Then taking long nails nail the one end onto the base. Note, the end of the 2x4's shouldn't have carpet on it, just bare wood. Do the same for the perch as you did for the base. The cat will love to climb up and down and you can play with your cat with bungie type of toys too. However don't let bungie toys left unattended. Cats and kittens can get too rough with them and they could end of strangling themselves with these toys when you are not present with them.
