Q: How can you get carpets to smell good and get the odor out without using a shampooer or any kind of electric carpet cleaner?ive been told baking soda but it didnt work...
The answer is real simple...you can't get them clean and deodorized without using a shampooer or any kind of electric carpet cleaner I was a cleaning professional for over a decade so you can either take my word for it, or start wearing a clothes pin on your nose all the time you're home. And it's very likely the rinky-dink carpet cleaners you rent won't work either, but you could try one before calling in professional carpet cleaners who use heavy-duty machines to clean carpets with. Maybe the sources I've provided will help. In the second link click on the subject titles to read the full article. Hope this helps.
Q: I don't have one yet. I'm new to this. Why do we need a rug anyways?
Padded Prayer Mat
Q: Why are area rugs so expensive?!?
They aren't all so expensive, it depends on what you get. Anything made of silk is obviously expensive because the fiber is made by worms with very fussy diets that require considerable care. Anything made of wool is expensive because it is a fiber harvested from an animal, and in most cases you want the animal to still be alive at the end of that process. For inexpensive area rugs check out olefin, a man made fiber that in the finer grades is considered a synthetic silk and used to make many styles of area rugs simulating wool rugs. If you need a really large room sized rug, you can economize by have a carpet remnant bound up for you at your local carpet dealer. Shop around, selection and prices vary considerably. For a bound rug expect to pay a $20-$40 squaring fee (to get the rem to the size or shape you want) plus a linear foot charge to bind the edge of $2.50 - $3.50 for tape binding (most common) and $6 or more per linear foot for serging. You can usually find decent in stock carpet for less than $2/square foot and rems as low as $1/sf. Look for good quality in a remnant, there are really good deals on them out there.
Q: Every inch of the carpet is soaked!
eliminate the pad, dry carpet, put off carpet if mildewed or moldy, dry and manage basement with mildewcide. and do not call any of the restoration agencies that come out and would charge a huge volume merely because coverage is footing the invoice. previous journey with basement would element out you'd be better off doing away with the carpet. How about stained concrete
Q: Should I buy a refurbished rug doctor?Or what is a cheaper really good carpet shampooer I can buy for the carpets in my apartment. I have some traffic in my apartment. Mostly from me and my pets. And the occasional pet accidents.

Q: I am renting this house and the carpet smells. I don't know why...it's not dog or cat urine or anything like that. Do the synthetic fibers the carpet are made out of or the cushion under the carpet cause this odor...it really builds up if you are out of the house for a day or two...and what can one do to fix this...shampooing didn't work
Since you shampooed the carpet, the smell might be in the pad under the carpet. If it was urine, you can go to a pet store and buy a solution which breaks down the urine. Getting smell out of the pad it difficult. You may want to get an ionizer to see if that helps........
Q: MY child dumped some nail polish on a rug in her room-it has light colors-any suggestions how to get it out?
It depends on what type of rug it is but most of the time anything that you can get fingernail polish out with will take the color out in the rug. Call a car detail shop and ask them if they will take a look. My husband owns a detail shop where we live and people even bring this type of thing in for him to work on.
Q: How to clean up the carpet?
Take it to the laundry, because they have professional cleaning methods
Q: I spilled Sunny D on my white shag carpet any ideas of how to get it out?
If it were me, I'd take the opportunity to get rid of the shag carpet and replace it with something more practical. Otherwise ... blot the area dry as quickly and thoroughly as possible, insuring you also absorb the fluid from the padding. Once the bulk of the liquid has been removed, I'd spritz the area with water and allow it to sit for about five minutes, then repeat the blotting. Repeat until no color remains. Consider an inexpensive shampoo suitable for shag if needed.
Q: Suppose you want to install carpet in a room that measures 18ft x 20ft. The carpet you want costs $28.50/sq yard and comes only in rolls that are 12 feet wide and at least 100 ft long. If you only allow one seam (where the two pieces of carpet meet), what is the most efficient way to lay carpet and how much will the carpet cost?I keep getting that the total carpet will be = to 44 sq yards, and that will cost $1254, no matter what, you need to spend about $3800 on carpet. So there is no more efficient way to lay the carpet?
carpet area = (18*20)/9 = 40 sq yards and if an exact size was available, would cost $1140 but since you HAVE to buy a roll 12ft x 100 ft , the carpet will cost you $3800, as you have calculated
