- Q: The actual way to move water (liquid) from a pond with small bits of debris. Trying to find out which system is the most efficient: vane, impeller, rotary, centrifugal...etc...either by hand or using a bicycle to turn the pump. I do NOT want to use an engine or electric motor. I've read about the transfer pumps in the hardware store are only about 50% efficient, I need something better that will provide me a continuous output. Something lightweight that will handle pressure. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!!

- Q: I noticed my car was quot;in the redand was about to overheat as i was driving, so at first I thought maybe i needed more coolant. I turned off my car and heard a fan noise under my engine for like a minute then it stopped. I checked the radiator and it was empty (no coolant) so i put water in there to get to the store to buy more coolant. By the time i bought some the water was already gone (this was only like 10 min) so I put the coolant in drove home again i noticed i was overheating, i checked again and all the coolant had leaked out too..it was all gone, that QUICK! So i asked a couple of men about it, and they say it sounds like it could be a hose or either a water pump. I don't know which it is, i can't drive it anywhere b/c it keeps overheating and i don't want to get it towed for $75 just to get a new hose. So is there a way i could tell what the problem is? Thanks!
- if its leaking somewhere you should be able to see where water is leaking from the motor, if its leaking from a hose, then replace that hose, if its leaking out of the water pump then its either the pump or the gasket, if its leaking out of a freeze plug you will need a tow so get the freeze plug replaced, if there arent any leaks then you will need it towed to either get new intake manifold gaskets or a new head gasket. price could range anywhere from under $20 for a hose or up to a couple thousand for a new head gasket.
- Q: No water will come out of any faucet in the whole house and I do not know what to do, if I need a whole new pump/tank or what could be causing this please help
- Sounds like you have a jet pump, the kind with the pump above ground? If so, the motor to pump seal may have gone bad, those are ceramic, and you can look at a new one compared to an old seal, and see no obvious difference. You may have a slight leak in one of the lines or hoses there at the pump, or close to it. You may have simply lost prime, which can happen if you have a small leak or if the water table drops. If you are able to prime the pump, it may take off and start pumping water again, but you may need a technician to come repair things, depending on what is wrong. Oh yeah, turn the [pump off, don't let it run and do nothing, because the seal will overheat! -Saw another poster answered you first, (I type slow) and he gave you more info than I, sounds like they used to work on them too. good luck.

- Not from power outage. Sometimes, depending on how your policy is written, from lightening strike.
- Q: My water pump is sitting very close if not rubbing against the case. There were shavings and a groove. Would this cause it to knock? Also would this blow up the lower end? One more, Should it be in the center or offset twards the top?
- it won't spin whilst you evaluate that's quickly geared to the crankshaft. turn the crankshaft - it is going to then spin. you may no longer eliminate the water pump without eliminating the grab conceal. eliminate the water pump shaft's protecting clip, to eliminate the water pump.
- Q: I have a 2002 honda civic with 85k miles the dealer says the timing belt should be replaced. But with the water pump timing belt tensioner also have to be replaced???
- I agree with the dealer.It may sound like he is trying to jack up the job but in fact it will save you money and grief in the long run. Getting to those parts is so labor intensive that if you have to go back in later to change the pump or tensioner pulleys it will cost you the same as it did to have the belt changed. The other thing if the pump starts leaking on a new belt you will have to have it replaced again. Whenever I do a timing belt I change everything that is in there. Then I don't have to worry about it.

- Like the answerers above me the Water Pump and Coolant wouldn't have anything to do with your car idling roughly. The cooling system's job is to maintain all internal engine components at a level, stable tempature.The water pump is resposible for keeping the flow of coolant throught the engine block If your car was was running low on coolant, or the water pump stopped working, the engine temperature would increase, increasing the risk of engine oil breakdown and blowing a head gasket. Rough Engine idling could be diagnosed simply as a throttle bottle cable that needs to be adjusted (adjust to increase or decrease engline idle) or a vacuum hose that is loose/leaking (rubber lines that run from the engine's intake). These would be the first things I would inspect and it is very simple.
- Q: My well water pump runs constantly. The manual says it should kick off at 50 psi, it only gets to 48 (moves to 45 rather quickly, slow to 48). Water isn't an issue. Turned off all water to house, and still gets to 48, so I believe I can exclude leak somewhere in the house.One place I called said it could be a bit of grit in the jet pump when I called. This seems like it could cost big bucks. Could I suggest for the service man to check anything else?

- Q: I have a Stamas boat that I am in the middle of restoring. It has 2 chevy 350's, with borg warner (sp) tranny's, and v-drives. Anyway, it has standard water pumps to cool the engines, and it had 2 Sherwood pumps to circulate the water to cool the tranny's, and v-drives. First, I am using the boat in Lake Michigan only, the water is very cool year round since it is such a big body of fresh water. I was wondering if there was any recommendation on possibly using 2 electric pumps to circulate the water? If so, what would a good unit be? Second, the transmission coolers were brass, with a honey comb in the center for the ATS fluid to run through, and the water would run on the outside to cool the fluid. Is this a more effective way to cool the fluid than with those expensive brass fitting? Just checking before I spend a few hundred on them to see if a better way to cool my engine and tranny's, in all honestly though, I am more worried about effectiveness than cost.
- You would be playing with fire to use electric pumps to cool the transmissions and v drives. I doubt they would put out the volume of cooling water needed to cool them and have enough extra volume just in case. Besides, the raw water pumps also would cool the engines and exhaust systems if they are raw water cooled or they would cool the anti freeze and exhaust and transmissions with heat exchangers and oil coolers. Those transmission coolers should be plumbed into the raw water system using the same water that flows through the engines. Not to mention the reliability of the electric pumps vs engine driven pumps.
