- Q:I am trying to take 4 lights in the basement that currently all have to be turned on independently and wire them all in series to a single switch. I just took the wires and put them to the switch and then to the first light. it came on but when i held the silver metal shielding piece that houses the wires, I got a tingle. I think that would mean I need to connect the third wire. The grounding one. The light did come on which I think means I had the pos and neg connected right. Where do I connect the ground wire and what caused the tingle? by ground wire I mean the third wire that is nothing but copper. I think I just put it to the case or the light or whatever looks like a good spot to get grounded. any extra knowledge or advice is a big help! In the mean time I will be searching the web for how to's.

No doubt you can run the series yourself, but don't monkey around and burn your house down by trying to save the cash on this DIY. Get someone to find the short and fix it. DIY the next job. BTW purchase the Black and Decker Advanced Home Wiring book. It has color pics and shows you the layouts of several ways to do stuff. - Q:I just bought a new JVC CD player well my dad and I are trying to hook it all up, we went to auto zone and got all the parts we need, wiring harness and faceplate kit. We got all the wires stripped and hooked to the right ones except when we plug it in there is no sound CD player works just no sound. - Q:Hi, I've got two new appliances (range hood fan/light and bathroom exhaust fan). Both are installed but not wired. My house is older, build in 1940s and the previous appliances were wired using the existing copper wiring which runs through the house. I'd like to electrically install these new appliances but am concerned about connecting the new appliance wiring (aluminum wiring i think?) to the copper wiring in the house.Is it safe to pigtail these two wires together? - Most building wire is copper, UL wouldn't allow dangerous cords to be used with normal wire.

- The existing wiring should be as follows: Black and Red are both hot. White is neutral. Copper is ground. The fan/light fixture should be as follows: Black and Blue are hot for the light and fan separately. White and White are neutral for the light and fan separately. Connect all 3 white wires. Connect the two black wires. Connect the Red and Blue wires. Connect the copper to metal on the fixture. The only thing left is to determine which switch is the light and which is the fan.

- You need an ohm-meter to find out which wire goes where. continuity is minimal ohms between 2 points. 1) The wire with continuity to the exposed metal of the fixture goes to the metal electrical box and/or ground wire. That wire is green or bare. 2) The wire with continuity to the outer shell of the sockets is the return path. It is usually the insulated wire with subtle corrugations on the outside. Tie it to the white wire in the box. 3) The wire with continuity to the tabs in the bases of the sockets is the supply (hot) one. It goes to the red wire in the box. 4) The chandelier will make light if wires 2 3 are swapped but it wouldn't be right.

Unless you have upgraded your plugs, your fuel injection, your coil, your ecu, and every other part that has to do with spark....you will get no benefit at all from changing them.
