- Q: im assuming red to red and black to black? but then what about the extra green and white wires in the iphone cable? where do they go?
- Never assume anything. Wire colours in such cables are not necessarily assigned according to a standard pattern. Before you proceed, find printed documentation -- or its online equivalent -- that clearly and definitively shows the functions of the wires by colour. If all of the wires are for audio (which is possible, but not certain), don't connect any sort of power source to any of them. If it is a USB cable, the red and black are power wires, and the green and white are for digital data. A question was posted about USB wire colours on Y!A about 3 years ago (USB wire color code, please help?). The best answer contains enough info to help you.
- Q: A horizontal current-carrying wire, free to move in Earth’s gravitational field, is suspended directly above a second, parallel, current-carrying wire. (a) In what direction is the current in the lower wire? (b) Can the upper wire be held in stable equilibrium due to the magnetic force of the lower wire? Explain.I assume they travel in opposite directions if they are both charged the same, but I think my instructor wants something more specific. Any help is much appreciated.
- Current carrying wire does not have extra charge but only flow So there is no electrostatic force between them. The magnetic force is present only when current flows through both wires. If it flows in the same direction then they attract. So if the lower wire is fixed and you wish to suspend the above it must repel it to overcome the gravitational force due to earth acting on it. Hence the wires must carry currents in opposite direction.
- Q: to which wire in the back of my car radio do i hook my remote wire to from my amplifier?
- Most factory radios, your Corolla included do not have a dedicated remote wire. Some will have a power antenna wire that can sometimes be used but the Corolla doesn't have a power antenna. You want to connect the amp remote to a switched 12V + source. The appropriate wire on your factory radio is the gray wire. That way, the amp will turn on whenever you turn on the ignition. Alternatively, you can connect the remote directly to any switched 12V wire.
- Q: We added an AC to a preexisting sx 80 furnace and we are having a hard time wiring the new thermostat to the furnace, and the condensor to the furnace. Anyone know how to get a wiring diagram?? thanks
- furnace will have 5 low voltage terminals,,R,,Y,,G,,W,,C...you have to connect R,,Y,,G,,and W at the furnace to R,Y,G,and W at the thermostat...so you have to use at least 4-conducter tstat wire between the tstat and furnace...typically you would use the red wire to connect the R terminals at tstat and furnace,,green wire for G terminals,,yellow wire for Y terminals and white wire for W terminals.. if your tstat wire doesnt have those exact colors it doesnt matter,,just be sure that the wires connected to R,Y,G,and W at the tstat are connected to R,Y,G,and W at the furnace respectively...if your tstat is programmable and requires a common wire to operate,,then you will need a 5 conducter tstat wire between tstat and furnace...the fifth wire, whatever its color, will need to connect the C terminal at the furnace to the common wire terminal at the tstat,,usually the common terminal at tstat is labeled C but not always.....as far as the outdoor unit goes..you will need at least a 2 conducter tstat wire to connect the Y and C terminals at the furnace to Y and C wires or terminals in the outside unit,,usually 24 volt polarity doesnt matter at the outdoor unit,,in other words as long as the 2 wires outside that are connected to the Y and C terminals in the furnace are connected to the [low voltage] 2 wires / terminals it will work,,unless one of the wires / terminals outside is clearly labeled as common.in that case make sure whatever tstat wire is connected to that wire / terminal is connected to C back at the furnace.....so at the furnace there will be one wire [red] connected to R....2 wires connected to Y. [ one going to Y at tstat, the other going to outdoor unit]...one wire [green] connected to G. and one wire [white] connected to W.....and one wire [common, usually blue] connected to C unless tstat requires a common wire,,in that case there will be 2 wires connected to C at the furnace.......hope i made it clear enough.......dan
- Q: I recently took out my old ceiling fan, and now there is a Black, Red, And White Wire hanging from the ceiling, I bought a track light that has a box with a Green, White, and Black wire in it. Which wires am i supposed to connect,It's for the light Switch, and I'm not sure when the house was built, its a Reading, PA Row house.
- connect white to white, black to black and put a cap on the white one, and the green one goes to a screw in the light box.
- Q: there is different gauge wire sizes in the power/ground and speaker wire? which is better? what is the difference? buy ground power and speaker wire the same gauge?
- Use the 4 gauge wire (thicker) for your power and then the 8 gauge wire for speakers and ground. If you are wiring a stereo with an amp, its best to ground both at the same spot to reduce what is called ground loop. Otherwise, you may hear engine noise through your speakers and possibly clicks when using your turn signals.
- Q: I need to wire a single 120v outlet from the 240v volt wire I use on my compressor. Im installing a 120v electric automatic drain valve on my large shop air compressor. The compressor is wired up with SJ00W 10-AWG, 4-wire power cable (red, green, black white wires). and is rated at 240v @ 15-amp(compressor not wire). The drain valve uses a normal house hold current wiring config. (black, white and open copper)The 240v power supply is the only supply I have near by, (two of them actually) Or I would just wire the automatic valve off an outlet and call it a day. So How do I wire a 120v 3-wire set up from the 240v 4-wire supply? Thanks
- If you have 10 AWG wire then you probably have a 30 amp breaker, correct? If so, you can't wire a standard 110v outlet on that large of a breaker. Duplex outlets are only rated for 20 amps. 30 amps and you're into range receptacles. You would probably need to install a sub-panel so you can switch down to a smaller wire size/breaker for the outlet. You could run the red, white and green into the sub-panel as the power source and then install a 15 or 20 amp breaker using 14 or 20 AWG wire to the receptacle respectively.
- Q: For my braces, the top wire where my two front teeth are, I can push the wire and it sort of bend. I don't know if this is normal or not. Can someone tell me?
- Yup its normal. Some of the beginning arch wires that are used are made up of very flexible metals like Nickel Titanium or Sentalloy. They are designed that way to help your teeth unravel for lack of a better term. These wires will allow your teeth to do the most movement. So no worries. But I would definitely try not to bend your wires, as you move along in your treatment some wires are not meant to be bent unless your orthodontist does it because your teeth can move in the wrong direction. Rest assured it is normal.
- Q: I bought a bathroom fan timer and tried to install it. It has four wires and the wall switch circuit has only 3 wires. What do I do?
- 3 Wire Switch
- Q: How can u do a wire transfer? Is there anything extra that is needed to do this? Are you able to make a wire transfer from your home computer?
- Most people go to the bank and arrange for wire transfer from there. You will need to have the funds to wire, the account where you want it transfered to. it is possible, but it would have to be prearranged.
