Q:Need to wire three ceiling fans in series: I don't think that's safe because light fittings are not rated to carry that sort of current.

Q:can someone tell me what wire arcing is?: Arcing occurs not only because two conductors are near each other, and having a voltage potential between them. It occurs (as in a switch) often when a conductor is carrying a load, and the the current is interrupted. It can range from just a tiny spark, to an arc which gives off enough energy to start a fire. Switches and switchgear attempt to minimize this arcing by making the separation of parts quickly.

Q:You have a 3 foot wide wire, vs a .3 inch wire. They are equal length. There is 3 volts going through each wire, to power your 1 volt LED. So, would the 3 foot wide wire have less resistance ? I don't even think it would work.: Increasing the diameter of a wire while maintaining a constant density is equivalent to connecting another wire in parallel with the present wire. Each wire contains a certain end to end resistance. The total equivalent end to end resistance of two wire resistors connected in parallel is always less than resistance value of the wire with the smallest end to end resistance. Another way to look at it. The larger the wire the greater the cross sectional area. The greater the cross sectional area of a wire the greater the number of parallel paths the current can take. The more parallel current paths available from one end of a wire to the other the less the overall resistance of the wire will be. You stated There is 3 Volts going through each wire, to power your 1 Volt LED. If this is true then you must have a resistor of roughly 100 Ohms that is dropping 2 Volts connected between the 3 Volt source and the 1 Volt LED. Either the 3' wide wire or the .3 wire would work fine in this application. The .3 wire would be a tad less cumbersome than the 3` wire I might add. Response to additional details: Conductance is the reciprocal of resistance and is independent of the applied Voltage. More length of a given wire would mean more resistance. More cross sectional area of a given wire means less resistance. Any wire has resistance but the conductor wire resistance itself in an LED circuit is of no consequence I believe.

Q:how are lights grounded on a car? Seems like all the wires to the light have electricity running to them.: if they all had power running through them they wouldn't work. sometimes they use a relay to make a ground. would help if you said what you are dealing with.

Q:a difference of 25 feet with 16 gague wire: Yes, but you will not notice it. Keep the same length on BOTH channels. Go with heavier gauge (stranded and labeled as speaker) wire on long runs too. Buy a 12 gauge spool at RadioShack.

Thanks.: Firstly, you only need to use 12gauge 2 wire (plus ground I hope) between the 20 amp circuit and the 15 amp GFI. For the rest you can use 14 gauge wire. It is cheaper and easier to handle/wire. Then the only wiring to watch is the GFI. the rest is standard. At the GFI the only difference is that the white (common) wire is separated by using different terminals for supply and load sides. This is done to give the GFI a reference to compare current flow in the hot and common wires on the load side. That tells the GFI when there is a partial short or leak in the load that could cause different levels of shock. I hope this gives someone a chuckle!

Q:I just bought an aftermarket cd player for my Grand Cherokee and I would rather not have to cut and strip wires so I want to get an wiring harness adapter. My question is, can I just get any wiring harness adapter or do I need the direct connection adapter that is specifically made for Chrysler to Kenwood?: Doug is spot on, but missing one thing that im going to add in real quick. The wiring harness makes things simper because it is color coordinated with the aftermarket wire radios. Some chrystler/dodge/jeep come with an existing amplifier that must be bypassed in order to have sound come through the speakers. Lucky this bypass is easy as connecting a wire. (quick note, buy only metra install kits- wiring harness and dash kit) On the wiring harness there will be a blue wire (not to get confused with the blue wire from the radio) coming off of it. This needs to be hooked up with the red wires, or the blue wire from the radio's wiring harness which is the amp remote wire. This bypasses the amp.
