- Q: Steel wire or iron wire. spool of wire used mainly in the iron frame of the building foundation..
- Steel wires have high strength than the usual reinforcement bars and usually it is used for prestress or post tension beams which can span very big spans without mid supports, especially good for bridges railways bridges and flyovers.
- Q: How do I wire an outlet that has two black and to white wires. It this case the white being the HOT wires?? Don't know why all the white wires in my house are HOT.. And the black are nuetral???
- i am an electrician and i cant believe that the white wire is hot. i would double check it to make sure. use a volt meter.take the negative probe and touch the box if it is a metal box. if romex cable was used just touch the bare ground wire. touch the white and black wires one at a time with the positive probe to see wich is hot. every outlet has 4 sdrew terminals 2 brass and 2 silver. the hot wire always gets hooked to the brass terminals. i would check the circuit breaker box to see how the wires are hooked up. the black wires should be hooked up to the circuit breakers the white wires should be hooked up to the nuetral bar. if not you're house was wired backwards.
- Q: I had recently closed up an outlet by taking the four wires and capping them off. Only to find out the two of the wires were for the ceiling fan power. I have a black and a white wire newer travelers to the ceiling fan, and two old cloth wires which look black. I do have an electrical tester and just want power for the fan, I will cover up the outlet. What wires go where ?
- Tie the two (hot) blacks together, the two neutral together, wire nut and overwrap with electrical tape. If you have neutrals(bare or green) tie these together as well. Then out your blank cover on the outlet. Make sure you don't have the power on when you do this! Also, remember that you should not permanently cover the outlet - don't drywall or plaster over it. It becomes a junction box, and must be accessible. To tell which is hot use your meter from wire to ground, if you get voltage (if the power is on) that is hot. To check while power is off, neutral to ground will have 0 or 1 ohm (Ohm setting) while hot to ground has overload (OL) on the readout. The wires to the fan will BOTH be dead, and will both be overload when tested in the OHM setting. To check that the two that go to the fan really do, turn the fan on and check ohms between both wires. It should read low ohms. Turn the fan off, and it will go to overload' Hope I haven't made it too confusing, it is much easier to show than tell!
- Q: I'm trying to install a ceiling fan but I'm having trouble with the wiring. Coming out of the fan I've got a black, white, black and white striped, and a green wire. coming out of the cieling i've got a black, a white and a red wire. The fan's green wire is connected to the bracket as a ground, so that's out of the way. It's the other wires that confuse me. I've tried, white to white, black to black, and BW striped to red, but that didn't do anything.Any ideas? Thanks.
- The wires on the fan; the white wire is the neutral, The black wire and the black/white wires are the hot wires on the fan, one goes to the fan and the other goes to the light. The wires in the ceiling; The white wire is the neutral, it gets connected to the white wire on the fan. Check the black wire and the red wire to see if they are both hot. If not, and the black wire is hot and the red wire isn't. the red wire feeds another circuit somewhere. If the wire feeds another circuit, tie the red, black wires in the ceiling together with the black and black/white wires from the fan. Is there an outlet or light not working somewhere? If they are both hot, connect one to the black wire and the other to the black/white wire. Is there a wall switch involved here? If so, when the wall switch is turned on, does it liven either the red or black wire? If this is the case, the wire that comes from the switch should be connected to which ever wire on the fan is the hot lead for the light. The other wire in the ceiling would be connected to the hot wire for the fan. There's lots of different scenarios that are possible. - Q: There are 3 wires where the old floodlight used to be and only 2 wires attached to the floodlight I want to install. How can I tell which wires connect to which... and what is the third wire?
- Usually there is a black wire (hot), a white wire (neutral), and a green or bare wire (ground)... in an ideal world:) If you need to find the hot wire, you can get a non contact voltage finder from lowes or the hardware store. This device will tell you where the AC voltage source is coming from without you even touching the wire. You will need to remove the old light and wire nut the wires. Then turn the electricity back on, use the detector to find out which wire is hot. Connect the black wire on the lamp to the hot wire.
- Q: Well i bought new speakers for my 92 integra and when i installed them i also wanted to get new speaker wire.how would i go about installing all new wires?would you recommend have circuit city do it or is it not as hard as it looks?
- Follow the old wires. It is very simple. Chances are there is nothing wrong with the old wires.
- Q: My starter I replaced has 3 wires, two red and one black. Where does each wire go? Pictures would be very helpful if possible
- The First red wire goes to the solenoid on the fender well right by the battery. the second red wire goes from the solenoid to the starter on the one main post there. the black wire goes from the engine block to the battery on the negative side. All connections must be tight but not not crushing on the battery
- Q: I have a 98' F-150 and need to add a 4 flat trailer wire connector to it. What all do I need to do? Is their a special connector?
- If it has an existing plug (6 or 7 Pin round) just buy an adapter. If the truck was equipped with a towing package but you do not have a plug of any kind look under the truck near the rear bumper you should find a bundle of wiring that is not connected to anything. this bundle should include the following colors of wires (red, blue, green, yellow, brown, black with a green line, and White). Go to Auto Zone ot Wal-Mart and get a 4 flat truck side kit. Strip and splice the wires together color to color. Green being your right turn signal, yellow- Left turn signal, Brown-Taillights/Marker lights, White-Ground. If the bundle of wiring is not there then you will need to find the wiring that goes to the tail lights on the truck and splice in to them. Splice into these wires using the same color code i just stated above with Scotch-Locks then for the White wire on the kit just put a ring connector and use a self tap screw to mount it to the frame of the truck or the tow hitch.
- Q: Please help,I have a 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee LaredoThe wire harness on the hitch has 7 wires,The whole thing is shot,My Question is can i just wire in a 4 prong harness, On my trailer yellow is left turn-green is right turn-brown is stop tail, white is ground The Jeep has 7 wires a green-a tan- a brown w green stripe-a blue w red stripe-a red w blue stripe and a bigger light blue and a bigger black, can i splice into these or do i have to get a converter of some sort ,Any idea'sTHANK YOU
- 1.White is 10 gage and is used for a common ground. 2.Blue is 12 gage and is used for an electric brake. 3.Green is 14 gage and is used for the running/tail lights. 4.Black is 10 gage and is used as battery charge + 5.Red is14 gage and is used as the left stop/turning signal. 6.Brown is 14 gage and is used as right stop/turning signal. 7. Yellow is 14 gage and usually is auxillary poweror back up light, if available. I'd get an inexpensive tester light and double check the vehicles outlet first, before I did anything permanent. It's easy to do with an assistant.
- Q: I needed a new tail light for my trailer. The aftermarket tail lights only came with two wires sticking out the back, one red and one black. The stock tail light that broke had 3 wires and so does the harness on the trailer end. People have told me that even though it is different it will work. Do I join the two hot wires together with the red wire and then the return wire to the black? There is no wiring diagram avalible and I dont have the money to replace then entire lighting system. Thanks for your help.
- Pull the lens and look at the bulb. If it is a 2 element bulb then it will work, if it is a single element it will not. If it is a 2 element then one of the wires is turn and stop light and the other is tail light. It will use a body ground in that case. On your trailer harness you will have a brown wire, that is tail lights, the turn and stop light (same wire) will be either green or yellow depending on what side of the trailer you are on. The white wire is ground. The turn and stop light will be much brighter than the tail light so just twist the wires together and see which is which. You can hook the white wire to the mounting screw of the light fixture to be sure you have a good ground.
