- Q: So I customized my guitar, and now I need to wire it. i have a pre-wired pickguard but I don't know how to actually hook it up. There's 3 wires. I have 2 humbuckers, 1 singlecoil, 1 tone, and 1 volume. All I know is that one wire gets soldered to the back where the springs are and another wire goes to the input jack. But there's a 3rd wire and I don't know where it goes. I don't even know which wire goes to what. Please don't post a diagram because it doesn't help. I think the wire colors are white, blue, and yellow. Please help!
- Matt, okorder /... The fact that the pickguard is pre-wired should make things a little simpler...in fact, if you post a picture, I could help. Without that, I can only make an educated guess. You said there are 3 wires? Well, I suspect that 2 of them are grounds. If you have a multi-tester, you can easily verify which of the two wires go to ground. Just touch one probe to the body of the volume or tone control, and the other to the wire. If you have continuity, it's a ground wire. If you follow them back to the source, both ground wires are probably soldered to the body of a volume or tone control. One ground goes to the bridge/spring assembly. The other should go to the output jack. You'll notice that the jack has two connections. One is the hot wire and the other is ground. You'll need to figure out which of the two wires is the ground, and which connection it goes to on the output jack. Look at the diagram in my link. See the wire that comes from the middle of volume control? That's the hot wire and it should connect to the part of the jack that contacts the tip of the plug at the end of your guitar cable. The other wire connects to the part of the jack that contacts the sleeve of the plug. If you look closely at the jack, you should be able to figure out which connection goes to the long prong. The prong is the one that makes contact with the tip of the plug....and this is where your hot (+) wire goes. Ground (-) to bridge-------------→ Ground (-) to output jack-------→ body/sleeve of jack Signal (+) to output jack--------→ tip connection of jack
- Q: Can old speaker wire cause a little static sound??
- The only way I could see old wire causing what you describe is if there is a lot of oxidation on the part where it is making contact. It is possible, but not likely and just simply jiggling things should cause the oxidation to come off, if that is what it is.
- Q: I dont understand it I am trying to get a 1ohm load on a 2ohm dvc speaker but cant figure out how to tell if the wire you connect in the postive terminal on the sub in a neg wire or positive how do you tell what the gray line is on this diagram positive or negetive and how to tell. thanks
- the wire (s) should be either silver or Gold Or 1 solid color wire 1 wire with a stripe
- Q: why is neutral wire.explain plz
- Any electrical circuit must have at least 2 wires for household service. These can be a hot leg and a neutral, or they can be two hot leads. This is typical for a split-phase 240/120 volt service. The neutral wire is the center tap of the transformer winding supplying the split-phase service. The neutral connection point at the transformer is the center tap of the transformer winding. The household system will carry as much of the total load in the 240 volt wires as possible, limited by the actual configuration of the wiring. And the only current carried in the neutral from your circuit breaker panel to the transformer is the unbalanced portion of the total load. The neutral wire in individual circuits from the circuit breaker panel always carries the same current as does the hot leg wire. The neutral is needed for single circuit runs from the circuit breaker panel to the loads. If you have a perfectly balanced load on both hot legs, you would not need a neutral from the circuit breaker panel to the transformer winding. But perfectly balanced conditions are seldom seen in the average home.
- Q: Two wires are placed parallel to each other. What would be the effect of passinga) upward current through both wiresb) an upward current throgh one wire and a downward current through the other.Explain.
- a) When the currents through both the wires are in the same direction, the magnetic field due to each midway between them, by right-hand thumb rule, will be in opposite directions. This will result in attraction between the wires. b) When the currents through both the wires are in the opposite directions, the magnetic field due to each midway between them, by right-hand thumb rule, will be in the same direction. This will result in respulsion between the wires.

- Q: Kind of a confusing question I guess. I want to cut a wire that contains 3 other wires and splice into them then reconnect them. is all I need relatively the same gauge wire or is it potentially different type like some sort of special speaker wire..? Should be one positive one negative and the other some sort of signal for sound. (Microphone to a speaker). All I need is standard copper wire?
- Hello Rocky: You need to be more specific. What are you attempting to do? I know you want to splice a three-ply wire, but what is your end purpose?
- Q: i just bought a 97 jeep wrangler..the soundbar isnquot;t hooked up. I pulled the carpet back and found the following: a red wire connecting the soundbar to under the dash (probably power), and a black wire connecting the soundbar to metal. there are 4 small wires unattached to anything coming from the soundbar, and a red and white sound wire coming from under the dash (actually has plugs like on a tv surround system), and a ground wire all unattached. how can i hook this mess up to make the soundbar work. i do have sound coming from the front dash speakers. thanks for help.
- Something else you might want to consider is adding some silicon sealant to your wire connections. This will help cut down on corrosion from moisture, especially if you plan on splashing around anywhere, or if you leave the top down/off. You CAN use heat-shrink, but it's a pain to get back off if you need to change anything.
- Q: I have just started wire working to make bracelets. I have a few questions. 1, is there a place where I can buy thick wire (16 to 18 gauge) in bulk? The items I am making take about a yard of wire. Considering the only thing I could find was 16 (or slightly hire) gauge in 7 foot increments. For new wire workers, do you have any suggestions on cheap practice materials. Also for those things that don't turn out great, what do you guys do with them?
