- Q: does cold or hot temperatures cause skate bearings or any bearing to spin faster?
- if there just bones RED not swiss i guess they wont work as good in cold like in the heat because the cold causes humidity and if they get wet they wont work right

- ABEC numbers are nonsense for skates, boards, or scooters. It is a number for vibration in high speed industrial equipment at speeds that would be past 200mph on a board. It can actually be detrimental since the smaller tolerances that are required for the higher numbers by the spec can mean more friction. Bearing friction is way less than the drag caused by rolling wheels. The top of the line bearings actually do not have an ABEC rating since the companies are designing them specificaly for human powered motion and have opened up some of the specs to reduce friction while keeping other parts tight.

(the city is my skate park). so if you could please give me a list of the bearings you personally think are the best for street that would awesome.I've never checked what bearings i use so that's why i don't know which are the best ones.
- Id say stear clear of skateboard brands that also make bearings, I only get 1 of two bearings, either bones reds, they range from $15-20, they are quick bearings right out of the box, they are relatively cheap and sturdy, bones swiss bearings will spin longer, so you wont have to spend as much time pushing, but they cost about $45-50. Dont waste you money on other bearing brands that use abec ratings, if you have the money for them id say the swiss are worth it, but if not reds are the way to go.

- We used to use gasoline to clean bearings. There are better and much safer cleaners out there now. You must grease the bearings before using them. They will fail very quickly if you don't use the proper grease.
- Q: i'm trying to make my bearings as fast as possible by cleaning them constantly with simple tissue paper...turns out it does not work to good. there are no skate shops in my area,(southeast texas) so i would like to know if there are any type of cleanser/lube product that i could find in my counter or at a wall-mart. thank you.rules:don't say google it.
- Clean with denatured alcohol - available at hardware stores Lube with Tri-Flow - bike shops and some hardware stores.

- Q: So i have a longboard and the bearing it came with died on me. Changing my bearings for the first time, i had no idea what i was doing until i look to youtube. I did as they said but something fell out. It was my speed ring. So i changed themas i was told and i put the ring back on before the bolt. I dont know what i did but now it spins very fast but slows down IMMENSLY within 10 seconds of a spin test and stops abruptly. What happened? (note: i skated in the rain... Stupid me)
- Spin tests are useless, they give no indication of the bearing's performance under load. Bearings take a while to break in, especially Bones. Might take a few good days of riding. There should be a speed ring on either side of the wheel. Some Trucks do have a built in protrusion that does the same as a speed rind, so only the outer one is needed. Make sure you didn't tighten the axle nuts too much. There should be a little play in the wheels. Also, make sure your bearings are seated properly. Ditch the spacers as they often cause problems. If you skated in the rain with the new bearings, clean and re-lube them. . They might be salvageable, otherwise plan on buying another set of bearings.
