- Q:and what bearings do you have? how long have you had them? have you done anything special to speed them up in any way to make them even faster then when you bought them (besides breaking in)?
- Pig Swiss or Black Panther Swiss Spinning an unloaded wheel doesn't really tell much except if thed bearing is dirty or has failed. A larger wheel will spin for a longer period of time. Thicker lubricants will cause an unloaded bearing to spin for a shorter time, but won't be effected under loads. The only proper test is to use different bearings under identical settings. Have a rider ride down a ramp and see how far he/she goes. Unless you race longboards, skate pools or other transition skating, the need for a high speed bearing is diminished. The average street skate performs tricks around 2-3mph. Transition skaters can reach 30mph and longboards can exceed 50mph.

- They don't, they are packed with grease before they are assembled together. That's all the grease they get for its lifetime!!!! That's why you don't hold high pressure washer hoses up against them, you can force water into them cause them to fail quicker

- ABEC numbers are nonsense for skates, boards, or scooters. It is a number for vibration in high speed industrial equipment at speeds that would be past 200mph on a board. It can actually be detrimental since the smaller tolerances that are required for the higher numbers by the spec can mean more friction. Bearing friction is way less than the drag caused by rolling wheels. The top of the line bearings actually do not have an ABEC rating since the companies are designing them specificaly for human powered motion and have opened up some of the specs to reduce friction while keeping other parts tight.
- Q:i bought some new bearings today, Bones Reds. the guy at the shop said that they were so fast they didn't need an abec. after riding i thought that my old bearings, the rush abec-7's, went faster. i just wanted to know which is faster
- There is no way for someone to give you an answer to your question without testing both bearings on expensive equipment with specific loading. If the Rush bearings work better for you, buy them in the future. However both the shop guy and jibiking are full of nonsense about ABEC and also partly right. ABEC is a tolerance specification for how gaps inside the bearing and how much it can wobble when it spins. It has nothing to do with how easily a bearing spins. ABEC got used for skate bearings because companies were using Precision grade bearings which are garbage. ABEC 1 rated bearings were a vast improvement over the Precision grade. Bearing sellers then decided if 1 is good, larger numbers can be advertised as better. A few of the better bearing companies (Twin Cam, Zero Drag, Bones) have designs that are better for skating by not meeting the specifications of the ABEC ratings..
- Q:My two front wheels on my skateboard randomly lock up. You know how you're suppose to leave a little wiggle room when you tighten the nut? Well after a few minutes of skating the wiggle room is gone and it's like I tightened down my bolt all the way. There's nothing wrong with my nut and my bearings are bones swiss and my wheels are bones stf 54mm. This is so strange. I've even rotated the wheels and bearings out from back to front and once again it's my front two wheels. It's beyond me. Please help!
- If you aren't using speed ring, use them. Replace axle nuts. Could be bearing migration from excess bearing lube. Remove bearings and wipe outer race with denatured alcohol. Wash the wheels with dish soap and water. Make sure to wash the bearing seats. Dry before placing the bearings back in. If it happens only on one side but not the other, it's axle slip. Send trucks back to manufacturer.
- Q:do bones reds super bearings work good for longboards?
- DO NOT listen to the other guy. Reds are known for being the best performing bearings in skateboarding and they are very inexpensive. I mean sure if you spent like $50+ on bearings you might get slightly better then Reds but really it's not worth it. reds are great. i've skated other bearings, always go back to reds. ask anyone at a local park
- Q:The bearings sound fine and smooth, Could this be from not tightening the bearing main nuts tight enoughgt;? I didn't use a torque wrench, it says 165 - 195 nM for torque, but I did it by feel... What could it be? It couldn't be the kingpin bearings? (Those were changed too)
- with the preliminary information you gave, it sounds like you have a CV joint going out. One way to confirmt this would be to jack your car up, and with the car in neutral, turn the wheel by hand, and see if it clunks then. If it does, you should be able to with a lot of care gently wigle it back and forth and locate the source.
