- Q: The bearings in the back rim of my 26in bicycle busted while I was riding, throwing my from my bike(ouch). How much would it cost to buy new ones ( it's just on one side, the other is fine ) and have it put in?
- 50 cents, maybe a dollar for the bearings, but yeah, if they FLEW OFF YOUR BIKE, then you have some deeper hub problems. get new hub internals i say, its about $20 for a good one, and about $20 to get the hub rebuilt, but you can do that yourself.
- Q: i know a lot will make them rust, but some? i was going to the store and there was a puddle, like 1inch deep, i thought it was less than that but apparently it wasn't. so are my bearings ******?
- No, think about the bearings on a boat trailer that is driven into the water all the time. Water is not going to hurt them.
- Q: I got some bone reds from zumiez and second day they lost spin. Whats wrong with them?
- your bolts might be too tight, or the bearings were not pressed in all the way, or you just got a defect bearing. Just take them back and ask for help and support local shops not chain skate shops
- Q: My husband has a dodge 3500 extended van that he uses for work. He is a floor installer, so he carries carpet, laminate, tile, and his tools in the van daily. We bought the van just over a year ago. He has put just under 40,000 miles on it (it has a totol of 211,000), and he is now on his 3rd set of bearings on the front. The van was upgraded by adding an extra leaf to the suspension on each side by the previous owner. It is a good sturdy van. The body is in almost perfect condition and it runs great, but it seems like we are always having to replace something for the front end. Is this a common problem, or could it be because of how it was modified? Is it that the front end is taking too much of the stess of the road and the load of whatever he's carrying that day? He just replaced the bearings 3 months ago, and now they are going bad again. (and that seems to be the trend, every 3-4 months they go bad)I was just wondering. Thanks
- Use a bearing packer that you can hook to a grease gun, don't use the old hand method. Also make sure you are using grease suitable for disc brakes, this type of grease can withstand much higher temps without running out of the bearings. I use synthetic grease in my wheel bearings. Try it like this one time and see how it goes.
- Q: recently my grease ball abec 5 have rusted and it is time for new bearings. which ones should i get. i am looking to spendo no more than 35 bucks
- What bearings? ABEC 5 is just a bearing grade......dosent tell anybody anything other than you currently have ABEC grade 5 bearings. What size, What part do they go on, How many do you need?
- Q: are these above, just consumable type things ,that need replacing after time, how many miles for each generally speaking would they need to get replacedwhat are signs that track rod ends have excessive playwhat are signs that wheel bearings have excessive play, and what exactly do they do
- if they bad now the best time to do it since tie rod control s steering breaks you crash wheel bearing control wheel spin breaks wheel locks up or comes off you crash wheel cylinders part of brake system no brakes you crash driving any amount of tiem with any of them bad not smart crashing cost you way more than parts will your car your life few hundred buck notr hard for me to know which id pick fix the car over my life any day of week
- Q: DOES IT???
- Yoyo's have bearings? Then they don't work like when I was growing up - how would a bearing unit grab the string to climb it.
- Q: Also on bicycle is it possible to adjust the cone too tight to a extent that it costs me wattage? On bicycle is there any kind of mechanism that prevents the cone from getting too close to the bearings, so I can just tighten the cone as much as I want without worrying about restricting the bearing movements? On bicycle will the cone loosen up over time and need re-tightening?On bicycle will I be paranoid about either the cone being too close to the bearings causing drag or too far causing plays? Finally are cup and cone hubs good for cycle commute or will you recommend cartridge which is maintenance free?
- Not so long ago, racers- particularly velodrome racers- built their hubs using very light machine oil instead of grease and ran the bearings slightly loose. This was called trackmens slack inasmush as using the hubs like this offered almost no resistance. Unfortunately, one race like this and the hubs required rebuilding including replacement of balls, cups, and cones. Whenever I can, I still spec cup and cone hubs on bikes I design and build most of my own bikes with cup and cone hubs. EDIT: I wanted to add that ball, radial, and needle bearings which are used for just about everything now in some fashion were first developed for the bicycle. Before the bicycle, bearings were made of wood, leather, and bronze. The bronze ones were called babbett bearings.. similar to sleeve bearings today... but not exactly.
- Q: two of my bearings are slightly dented. What can I do? I just bought new bearings and I had to change them because I bought new wheels. :?
- If your bearings are dented, there is nothing that can be done about it. Either suffer with the wiggling until the bearings fail, or replace them.
- Q: i have an eastern ramrodder 2009, the bearings are getting very stiff and pop and bang. i need replacements. i need to know the type and size of my bike. and a place i can get replacements.
- You get bearings. Bearings are one of the only part of the bike that actually do follow a mostly industry standard. Unless you're one of those roadie freaks who wants ceramic bearings, just go to your LBS to get replacements. Specify if they're for the headset or for the hubs or the bottom bracket, and the shop will send you on your merry way with the right ones.
