- Q: Hey guys my differential bearings are worn out, could they be the cause of the loud noise i hear whenever the car is turned on, when im at a stop, in neutral or in gear the noise doesnt go away, its not the muffler either or flex pipe as they were both replaced. Also whenever I let off the gaz pedal at rpms from 1500 to 3500 the car shakes back and forth, could it be because of worn out differential bearings? engine mounts were changed so i know its not that.Thanks in advance! - IF IT STILL MAKES NOISE AT A DEAD STOP ITS NOT YOUR DIFF BEARINGS. how can they make noise if they are not moving? does the noise go away when the clutch peddal is pushed in or does the noise change sound when applying the clutch? if so then you got a throw out bearing gone bad. that is part of the clutch. if it shakes bad on take off then your flywheel is probably warped im guessing your clutch is wore out to. sounds like you need to see a technition and get it checked out. sounds like its clutch time
- Q: Took my car to a local shop today b/c I thought I heard a funny noise. Mechanic said my exhaust bearings were bad... He said I needed 2 new ones and they were 150 each plus labor. Estimate of $500 for everything. Anyone know where I can get them cheaper? Or are they always this much?Thanks

- Q: 90 15ierra 4cyl 4 tech motor.oil pump came loose and rod bearins turned and have the motor up nd pn off. m just curous if theres an easy way to take them out?do i takeone out the turn the motor to get to th other bearings?
- are you sure only the rod bearings are affected and no damage to crank pin ? remove the oil pan and work under the engine. when you remove the oil pan you can have access to connecting rods, you just unbolt the rod cap and replace the bearings then re-torque back the cap's bolts. you may turn the crankshaft while working around on each rod..

- Yep you sure can. Most bearings are standard size 608, and will fit on a skateboard, roller skates, and rollerblades.
- Q: ok..muy f22b1 vtec engine has 22222 stamp on crank and ccbcc stamped on block which comes out to y/g,y/g,y,y/g,y/g. (that's yellow and green.)with yellows in the block and greens as well..(I know it meant one half yellow one half green, but I wanted to see the difference in the bearings...)the yellow had a clearance of .0020, which is the service limit for journals 1,2,3 4...here are muy books' readings-oil clearances-# 1 4 standard .0005-.0015 service-.002# 2 standard .0008-.0018 service-.002# 3 standard .0010-.0019 service-.0022# 5 standard .0004-.0013 service-.0016 I also tested browns and acl bearings.these are the clearances I got with a dial bore gauge.....green bearings- .0019yellow bearings- .0020brown bearings- .0015acl bearings- .0025at this point im not sure which way to go, go with stamps or clearances...any suggestions would be great... thanks
- The deciding factor is clearance! But if you need new bearings- the crank should be turned to the next size. Now this might seem like a needless expense. But it is not! For one thing it makes sure there is not too much play at the mains and rods. The second is that turning the crankshaft smaller reduces friction. That means that the engine will rap out faster! Now while you have the crank in the shop- ask about getting the flash removed and peened. Also have take the piston and rods in for a finer tolerance balance. Reducing internal engine resistance is what a performance rebuild is all about- not just slapping new parts in a worn block.
- Q: Was recently told by a friend that my front two wheel bearings needed replaced (actually, that the wiring for them was pulled right out of them - which in an 99 Alero requires replacing the entire system) after an ABS light had been on for quite awhile in my car. Furthermore, he suggested that I also needed to replace a pigtail in my car - though I do not know what that is (anyone know?). He quoted me a $750 price tag on the deal and being our friend, we assume that we are getting some sort of labor deal as well - but checking it out we found some sort of pigtail online but it was only $10. With $190 for each wheel bearing that should add up to only $390 + tax so we were a little confused. Can anyone explain what/how much a pigtail is actually worth and what would be a right price on this fix with without labor? I realize prices are slightly different all over the world - so if it helps, this is in Ohio in the States. Much appreciative!!!
- There is actually several things that could cause a vibration. If the vibration was there prior to the new tires and brakes it is possible that it may be the CV shaft. If an alignment was done when you purchased tires, they should have checked your suspension, ie. ball joints, tie rods(inner and outer) shocks and/or struts. If the vibration came after the tires were put on suspect balace is off... If the vehicle has aluminum rims it is reccomended that you re-torqe the lugnuts after 50 miles...
- Q: Do you need to relube your bearings if you leave them in their boxes(opened)?I bought bones reds, and I opened the box. I plan to leave it there for 3-5 days untill my other shipments(trucks, wheels) come. Will the lube dry/go away? Should I relube it in 3-5 days?
- I would not recommend re-lubing cause they are already lubricated with speed cream and if you put too much in the bearings slow right down and get dirty so I would leave them especially cause they are new ..the lube is meant to dry in a way so the balls absorb the lube ....And make sure you buy speed cream DO NOT use CRC or WD40 cause it breaks down the Nylon part and is generally not good for them ..Also don't clean with citrus cleaners, the best thing to do is get some petrol and take the bearings out of the wheels and take the red barrier thing off (carefully) and drop them in ..Then lube them with speed cream 2 drops is perfect ..But yeah that's about all you need to know ...Definitely buy Bones speed cream its $10 in NZ where im from so go to a skateshop and buy some Good luck and Happy skateboarding Tom
