Q: For my botany class, we're supposed to find 1 sample of plant each from 10-12 different families, press them, and mount them. They are due this Thursday (3 days from now).I had already pressed all the plants needed well ahead of time using the plant press with straps and newspaper. I waited about a week to for them to dry fully, and they were all nice and flat - but someone thought they were trash and threw them away! I should have hid them in my room, but obviously it's too late for that. Now I gathered more plants to replace them, but I don't think I have enough time to press them normally. I heard that I can place foil on top of each individual plant and use a clothes iron to flatten and dry them quickly. Will this work? It doesn't need to be a work of art, it just needs to be recognizable and intact for mounting. Thanks for any advice - it's much appreciated.
I remember once reading about somebody using a microwave to accelerate the drying time of pressed plants, however I've never tried it. You could try googling this technique. I would think that the heat might cause discoloration because plants are very sensitive to that sort of thing. In any case, I would think that using a big, heavy, book-the bigger the better-like a dictionary, would work better than a newspaper. I normally press my plants in big books like this, and then put a big stack of books on top of them, and stomp a few times on it for good measure. It presses the moisture out of them and the paper absorbs it. Some papers absorb better than others, for example laminated paper doesn't work well at all for this. The trick is to get the moisture out as quickly as possible. So you can try this, let it dry a few hours, maybe take it out and put it on a new dry page, to speed up the process a little. It's like wringing out a wet towel in a way. I don't know how thick the plants you are trying to press are, but the ones I press usually dry overnight.
Q: Should I use pressed powder or loose powder to set my concealer?I was thinking of going for Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder - Transparent.I need it to be as invisible as possible because I'm a guy lol
Use loose powder to set it. If you use pressed powder, then it would look chalky and cakey since concealer and pressed powder dont go together.
Q: How long does it take to see results, usually? And what is the best way to make the chest poke out, I guess? I heard doing incline bench presses help; can someone verify it please?
Bench Press Results
Q: I am having a consultation with one on Saturday?I don't know much about small literary presses? Can they sell on books on a national level? Can they do everything that a large literary press can do?What else do I need to know about a small literary press?
I am assuming you are having a consultation with them because they might be publishing a book of yours. Overall, small presses can do really great things. Some *can* and *do* sell books on a national level, but this has to more to do with their distributor than anything else. You should definately ask them if they distribute to the large book chains like Barnes Noble, Borders, etc. They can do most things that large presses can do, as long as it doesn't involve a lot of money. Often writers get more personal attention from small presses in terms of public relations, whereas a large publisher like Random House tends to leave new, small novels to fend for themselves. I can't really tell you any more about what you need to know, because I'm not sure what you need it *for*. Good luck with your meeting.
Q: Ok when I buy press on nails it's says on the back of the box: Wear beyond 7 days not recommended why are you not suppose too wear them beyond 7 days what will happen?
Nothing, they'll just look worse for wear and start to lift.
Q: I want a ten inch flour tortilla press without a non-stick surface because non stick surfaces impart chemicals into the food. All the ones I've seen do. Suggestions?
Electric press? I've seen electric tortilla cookers, but these only cook the tortilla - they don't press the ball of dough into a tortilla. And anyways, no one buys those things anyways. I've seen the old cast-iron presses for sale at any Mexican mart, or in the Ethnic Aisle of my regular grocery stores. They simply press the ball of dough (corn, flour - makes no difference) into a tortilla - they don't cook it. You'll have to use a frying pan for that.
Q: I currently attend the gym but cannot always get there. I have just started doing press ups each day that I miss, and I was wondering if press ups every morning was a more productive way of working out than going to the gym 3 days a week. Thanks for the help!
Many fashions particularly do hundreds of reps an afternoon. I hate that i be attentive to this thoroughly stupid actuality, yet years in the past in the previous Britney Spears went insane, she did 3,000 take a seat-united statesevery morning and that i could anticipate that many male fashions could do exactly as many push-ups. you would be attentive to in case you're over-doing it if it starts to harm. Stretching will help. the reality which you unfold it out in the time of the day is a sturdy difficulty too, that way you do no longer overstrain the muscular tissues in a loaded workout consultation.
Q: What is the difference between bench pressing with a bar and benching with a machine? I use a machine and bench 180lb, but my friends tell me it's easier on a machine than it is a bar. I've done both at 160lb before and I don't notice a difference.
When bench pressing with free weights, secondary muscles are involved in balancing the weight, where as with a machine, these secondary muscles are not involved. using a machine is fine, but in order to build greater density and strength, free weights can be a little bit better. Remember when benching with free weights, ALWAYS have a spotter!
Q: I am required to collect and press a variety of plants for a plant identification course that starts in the fall. The instructions say to change the inter-leafing paper after 24 hours, but it doesn't say how long they ultimately need to stay in the press. Can you help? Thanks in advance!
It depends upon how many plants, humidity and if you are using gentle heat to speed the drying. In dry environments, thin tissues will dry in a few days. If you have high humidity and lots of fresh plant materials, it could take a lot longer. I would change the blotters every 24 hours if you have lots of plant material to press.
Q: For mother's day i wanted to make her something with the gift i bought her like a card or something.I like to collect flowers and press them so i have quite a few of those.Any ideas of what i could make (and quick directions?)Thanks!
