Q: My dog chewed the wiring and i dont know how to re-connect
just reconnect like-colored wires back together
Q: I want to install a single-pole dimmer switch for a series of 4 pot lights in the same box (double gang) as a kill switch for a receptical already installed. There is a 14-3 wire (b/w/r/g) brigning power into the box from the main, and 14-2 wiring for the dimmer and 14-2 wire for the kill switch. How do I wire this? The single pole dimmer has a ground and two black wires. The switch to kill the receptical has only two brass screws on one side.
First of all cut the red wire back out of the way, it will not be used. Next route the incoming power black wire to the kill switch, same black wire continues out the other screw from the kill switch to the dimmer, no it does not matter which screw which black wire goes on. Then the black will go to each pot light and continue on to the next one etc. So you will have two black power and one light lead connected together at each box except for the last one. Same for the white wire. This will turn all the lights on and off at the same time and they will be parallel wired so they will all have the same brightness.
Q: I just read an article about a man who was electrocuted by a live overhead wire while trimming a tree. Horrible. My question is I see squirrels running on all the overhead wires. How do they not get electrocuted?
You have to have a complete circuit. A man trimming trees may touch two wires at the same time or may touch one and the other wire is grounded causing the ground to act as the second wire. You cannot get electrocuted by touching just one wire. Technically, since one wire is grounded and we are on the ground we are touching one wire continuously. Also the squirl may be on a low voltage telephone wire or an insulated wire. If it's a bare wire and he doesn't jump onto the wire but rather reaches out from a tree and touches both at the same time he'll get shocked too.
Q: i got this switch with numbers 1 , 2, 3, and 4 on it and 4 wires red, green, and two black. Which wires go to which number?
Well it is defintely a 3 way switch. The fourth (green) wire being the ground. I can't tell you by the numbers, but I can tell you by the screws which wire goes where. If it does not apply to your switch you may need to go get a new one. They are inexpensive. The green, ground wire goes to the screw that is usually attached to the arms ( metal extentions that hold against the sheet rock. Now you need to find the red and black wire that are together. Look inside the box where the wires come in and you should be able to tell if the red and black are in the same sheathing. These are your travelers. The travelers need to go on the two screws that are across from eachother. One goes on the right side and one goes on the left. Does not matter which side. The last black wire, depending on which of the two 3 ways you are at is either your power or your light leg (wire going to your light). This wire goes on the last screw. Hope this was helpful.
Q: siting on a roof and the wire is running into the house, what if you touch it?
Those electrical thick wires were some insulated high grade plastic jacket wire. Electricity is blocked from leaking by the plastic sleeve. I see no danger to touch those plastic wire. They also has a bare copper wire for grounding. It is also safe to touch the ground wire.
Q: hey im wiring up a headunit to my L300 van. The factory headunit wasnt there and im having trouble connecting which colour wires to the factory colour wires. if anyone knows which coulours go to what would be much appreciatedcheers.
Hi, okorder /
Q: Ok, I am having trouble installing a new car radio in my 97' Honda Civic Lx. It's just a basic pioneer cd player.. I matched all the colored wires up and still nothing. My brother had told me something about + - for example do i hook the green stripped wire with a flat green wire? Vice versa.. Help please.. Also If you know of a web site with diagrams?
Car Stereo Radio Wiring Diagram - 1997 Honda Civic Radio Constant 12V+ Wire: Blue/White Radio Switched 12V+ Wire: Yellow/Red Radio Ground Wire: Black Radio Illumination Wire: Red/Black Radio Dimmer Wire: n/a Front Speaker Size and Location: 6 1/2″ Doors Left Front Speaker Wire (+): Blue Left Front Speaker Wire (-): Gray/Black Right Front Speaker Wire (+): Red/Green Right Front Speaker Wire (-): Brown/Black Rear Speaker Size and Location: 6″ x 9″ Rear Deck Left Rear Speaker Wire (+): Blue/Yellow Left Rear Speaker Wire (-): Gray/White Right Rear Speaker Wire (+): Red/Yellow Right Rear Speaker Wire (-): Brown/White
Q: i am installing a headunit, i connected all the wires the match, but i have some left over that i am confused about. from the wires that plug into the radio there is the antenna wire, the remote wire, and the ground with a washer to screw it down, and from the other is set of wires is a solid orange wire, which i have no idea where it goes to. so i connected the remote to the orange wire and didn't hook up the antenna to anything, and bolted down the ground wire. I'm wondering why i have 2 ground wires, and what the orange wire is and what do i connect to it?
The orange wire may be an illumination wire that controls the illumination or brightness of the head unit's lights when the car's headlights are turned on. You have two grounds because one is a chassis ground used to ground the metal frame on your head unit to the car's ground. Your head unit may or may not have an input for the illumination wire, in which case you need to remove it. I would also ground the head unit's frame using the second ground wire. Try looking online for the pinouts for your particular car's factory head unit. This will take the guesswork out of the install.
Q: I would like to know how to wire my West Marine VHF Radio.Coming out the back of the radio is a red wire, a white wire, and two black wires. The white wire and one of the black wires are a thinner gauge then the other black and red wires. Any solutions out there? Thanks
I would say the red wire is your power 12 V + side, The bigger black one would be you ground or - side , and the remaining two wires are for the speeker
Q: don't say red because there is no red wire in the 3 wire radio assembly that came stock. there is a yellow wire, black with stripe, and gray with stripe
There is no Accessory wire, but only one yellow switched power wire hot in run. I usually steal accessory power in an F-body from the cigar lighter harness. One of the other wires, I forget which, is hot with the dash lights. Isolate it.
