- Q: I bought a single pole dimmer switch to install in my dining room and when I took the old switch out nothing looked right. There are two wires which were joined together by another single wire which was attached to the top screw. There was another single wire (I believe the ground wire) attached to the bottom screw. I disconnected the first two wires and attached them separately to the black wires on the dimmer and attached the ground wires together. It didn't work. I've tired several different times with no luck. I put the wires back the way they were and attached them to the old switch and they no longer work ether. Help! How can I fix this problem? The old wires appear to be a very thick copper covered in black plastic and cloth.....
- The 'answerer' Justin K thinks you have knob and tube wiring. A lot of early electrical installations were done in the old days with out a ground, many types of early 'romex' did not include a ground. You may or may not have 'knob and tube' wiring - but it really dose not matter. The two wires which were joined together and had a third wire attached are the hot wires. The other wire (lower screw terminal) is the 'load' wire - it goes out to your light fixture. The reason the those 2 wires were attached together is that one of them is hot, and the other wire is a 'feed' to supply power to your next switch or receptacle. I am an electrical contractor, this is how I would fix the problem - I'm not suggesting that you do it though. #1 turn the breaker/fuse back on. #2 use a voltage tester to determine which wire is now hot. #3 touch the hot wire to the other wires 1 at a time. The hot wire when it is touching the 'load' wire will turn on the lighting fixture. Mark the 'load' wire with some black electrical tape. #4 turn the power back off #5 attach the marked 'load' wire to one of the switch terminals. #6 take the other 2 wires (incoming power, and the out going power) and join them together with a third wire ---LIKE IT WAS ORIGINALLY. Place that third onto the other terminal of the switch. it dose not mater which terminals you use - it will work just fine.
- Q: Friend’s dog chewed my fuel pump wires on my 90 Chevy caprice classic I need to know what colors match up correctly. I have coming from the pump: Purple, Gray or (Tan color) black, only other wires in site coming from tail light harness are Pink, Gray, black/ white stripe. I have tested these wires and found out that the (black/white wire was ground, Pink was hot, Orange was hot not didn't light up as bright as the pink with the test light) Found nothing in Mitchell’s book to help also called dealers I printed out a wiring diagram but not much help..
- the gray wire, may also be tan, is the B+ wire coming from term E of the fuel pump relay. The purple or pink wire should go to the cluster terminal X if you have gauges or terminal I, as in eye, if you have idiot lights(indicators). The black wire is ground. Connect this to anywhere that is not rusty or painted.
- Q: installing whelen car strobe lights.the directions say to wire the power to the battery with wire that can hold 125% of the power
- use one that is larger than what is used going to the strobes. the less the resistance the better and brighter the strobes will perform. and it is a good idea to ues a relay.
- Q: I am planning to wire my single sub 400rms svc to my amplifier 400rms x 1 @4 ohms. My car model is 94 mitsubishi lancer. how many AWG ( gauge) should I use? Like for Power, ground, speaker wire. I just want to have the full potential of my sub and ampli.For my 2nd question: if I decided to put a 2nd sub wired it on the same amp making it 800rms x1 @ 2 ohms. (my amplifier is a class d mono 1600 watt peak by the way) should I need to use a capacitor?Thank you
- Well a capacitor is always desired for me...even if not to help the amp...it also helps your alternator/battery. Most class D amps can handle 2 ohm mono...actually most of them can handle 1 ohm mono...as for wiring. It depends on how many amps your amplifier's fuses are. If your amp is drawing more than 50 amps I'd say 6G or thicker. less than 50amps then 8G is plenty. The wattage the amp says it puts out is misleading...the fuses on the side of the amp tell the whole story. 12g speaker wire should take care of you as well. If the amp were on the larger side (requiring 6G wire or thicker) then 8G speaker wire would be a good idea.

Most modems (cable or ADSL modem) provide a single Ethernet connection. To get a wireless setup, you need to connect a wireless router to the modem. The router should provide both wired and wireless connections.

- You can get the harness at WalMart or Best Buy. It connects to the aftermarket radio and then just plugs right in to the vehicles harness.....unless you already hacked it off. The thing only cost about $15.00 and makes the installation process a breeze.
- Q: Who makes the best spark plug wires? i think the ones on my car are crap...they are Mag*star O.E. replacements, and they suck. What do you recomend?Its an 89 thunderbird
- The best plug wires are the ones with the least ohms per foot... MSD 8.5mm wires has about 40 ohms per foot and thats about the lowest you will find w/o getting into solid core race wires (not good on OEM cars with EFI, car radios, etc) All of your stock type wires, parts store replacement wires, etc will have between 1,500 and 3,500 ohms per foot

- on the wires it should tell you want the wires are four you should have a red wire black wire.the red is live wire and the back wire is earth wire.and the four you got left is speaker wires
