- Q: Currently I have the two wires no ground wire and some two wire with ground outlets (upgrade some time before). Is it allowed in the NEC to run a separate ground wire from one of the two wire with ground outlet to the two wire outlet without changing the old wires?
- It isn't allowed to ground the new 'grounding' receptacle to another receptacle on another circuit (if that is what you are asking) Other than that, it IS allowed to be grounded to an accessible point on the grounding electrode system (metal cold water pipe or wire connected to it), the system grounding electrode (ground rod, etc.), the ground bar in the panel from which that circuit originates, or the grounded conductor bar in the panel which the circuit originates (neutral bar). The only other legal option is to install a GFI and label it No Equipment Ground. You can connect downstream receptacles to that same GFI, but cannot connect a ground wire from the GFI to any downstream receptacles and they too must be marked No Equipment Ground and GFCI Protected. The way a GFI works is quite simple. If the current on the hot and neutral conductors isn't the same (within 5mA), it trips. So if there is a different path from hot to anything other than neutral, it will trip.
- Q: I want to make wire art but I'm not sure what type of wire to use
- They also sell rolls of other wire, click on metals in the top sequence, choose one then choose wire.
- Q: I notice my 10/100 Ethernet wire uses 4 wires (2 twisted pairs). I'm curious what each wire is used for. I understand one pair is for Tx (transmit) and the other for Rx (receive) but why does it need 2 wires for each? I assume bits of data cross on one, but what of the other?

- Q: US electrical tech question from a non electrically minded fag. I have a dimmer controlling a light and a single light switch controlling a fan. There is one blue wire going to the dimmer and one blue wire going to the switch. There is one black wire going to a 2nd terminal on the switch, which is also connected to a 2nd wire leading to the 2nd terminal on the dimmer. Now tell me how to wire an outlet into this ******* mess.Inb4 op is a fag, inb4 op should post this somewhere else, inb4 turn the power on and touch the wires, inb4 op can't inb4
- Buy a cheap 110 volt test light from Ace Hardware or Home Depot to identify whether the blue wires or the black wire supply electricity TO the switch and dimmer ( which is a switch as well). Once you have found out which one is hot all the time it is the supply, next you will need to get a wire from the switch location to where you want the new outlet to be. You will use a piece of 14/2 Romex cable containing 3 wires ( one black, one white, one bare). Install the wire in the new box, hooking the black wire to the gold screw, the white wire to the silver screw, and the bare wire to the green screw on the bottom of the outlet. At the switch location you have determined which wire is hot and the black wire is joined to that using a pair of pliers and a plastic wire nut, the white wire is joined in the same way to the white wires at the rear of the switch box, and the bare wire is joined in the same way to the bare wires at the rear of the box. You can now turn the electricity back on and your new outlet will be hot. If you are not up to the test, contact a local licensed electrician to have this easy job done for you. Expect to pay under $75 if you hire one.

- Q: I have a 98 RS Eclipse (420a) and i would like some opinions and recommendations for spark plug wires. Who makes the best or very good wires for my engine??
- Buy the stock wires. Make sure there is no oil on the old wires or you will need to replace the valve cover gasket and the 4 plug tower seals that are inside the valve cover. The motor came with Champion plugs, don't use Bosch.
- Q: I did an engine swap with some friends and everything is in place, from the rebuild 700R4 w/ a shift kit, to the rebuild 350 bored .30 over. But all I have left to do is the wiring, but have no idea how to. So about how much would it cost to have a professional finish the wiring?
- The wiring on a basic carburated non emissions engine is pretty basic...it's something you could do by yourself in your garage. Anyone that has any knowledge in wiring and electricity could wire it up. Don't let it scare you! :)
- Q: How do electric and other companies decide on strung wires in consideration of snowfall?
- Utility companies use a set of standards to determine the maximum tension in pounds that will occur on a wire due to wind, ice, temperature, wire size, wire type, span length, and support structure strength (poles). The normal loading criteria is based on a 8 pounds per square foot wind loading, ?” of radial ice at 0 degrees F. The NESC limits the conductor tension to 60% of the maximum rated tension of the conductor used or 2000 pounds, whichever is lowest. Hope this helps, Newton1Law
- Q: Two steel wires are stretched with the same tension. The first wire has a diameter of 6.00E-4 m and the second wire has a diameter of 8.90E-4 m. If the speed of waves traveling along the first wire is 53.2 m/s, what is the speed of waves traveling along the second wire?
- Wave velocity v = √(T/μ) Same tension in both wires: T1 = T2 μ is the linear mass density v1 = 53.2 m/s v2 = ? = v1/v2 = √(T1/μ1) / √(T2/μ2) = √(T1μ2 / T2μ1) = √(T1/T2 * μ2/μ1) = √(μ2/μ1) Linear mass density is mass/length, mass is density*volume: m/L = ρV/L = ρAL/L = ρA = ρπr^2 Both wires are steel so their density is the same. == v1/v2 = √(μ2/μ1) = √(ρπr2^2 / ρπr1^2) = √(r2^2 / r1^2) = r2/r1 == v2 = v1r1/r2 = (53.2*3.00×10^-4) / 4.45×10^-4 = 35.9 m/s ---- Speed of waves along the second wire is 35.9 m/s
- Q: I am wiring a GFCI receptacle with two regular receptacles after it.So before the GFCI I have my 12/2 wire from where it will hook into the box (the line side), after it I have my wire going to the two other receptacles (the load side).Well the GFCI receptacle has screw terminals for the line HOT and WHITE wires as well as a GROUND. On the bottom it has screw terminals for the load side but ONLY the HOT and WHITE, no ground screw.Does this mean that I don't hook up the ground for the load wire or does it mean I have to pigtail the ground to the same screw the line ground is using?I didn't want to assume that I connect the line and load grounds out of fear I was circumventing the GFCI.
- your concern could be dissimilar issues, in the beginning GFCI stands for floor fault circuit interuptor. so in case you have older wiring on your place and a steel field which you attempt to connect with interior the wall you're transforming into a twine touching it some the place (by way of a split interior the insulation the place the twine is bent it may additionally be the white twine) which could be a floor fault inflicting the gfci to holiday. your fixture ought to be defective. even no count if it is new additionally the black and white wires could come off the load facet of the gfci and not the line. is likewise it a gfci breaker interior the panel field or in straightforward terms a receptacle with the crimson and black buttons. the latter are often times very gentle, i've got seen 2 way radios holiday them by potential of keying the mic. it is beneficial to alter the receptacle if necessary.
