Q: I replaced the water pump on my 350 chevy small block and the thing is leaking out of the lower bolt hole on the passenger side. I was told to remove the bolt and coat it with permatex hi tack gasket sealer and reinstall it. Any how I'm wondering why there would be a leak there in the first place, any ideas?: my first response is, you used a wrong gasket or you mucked up the gasket when you installed it. Then i think of maybe the water pump casting cracked when you tightened the bolt. ( but not likely) . I guess you could try the sealer thing. but you could test it to see if it leaking from under the bolt head. The way you could do that is put a soft washer , like copper washer under the bolt head and put the bolt back in. the soft copper washer will make a water tight seal. if it were me , i would remove the pump and find out what the hay is wrong . i have replaced at least 6 water pumps on my own chevys, and have never had that problem.

Q: I did change water pump before but not on wv beetle?: If okorder , I have serious doubts about your doing a timing belt which has to come off and go back on to do the water pump. I also can't picture a water pump going bad in under 15 years or 150,000 miles. Spendy job, so please be sure before disassembling. Q: Home water well is artesian, to holding tank. I am needing to replace my pump yearly. Inside of the pump is rusted, this causing a real loud whining sound before failure. Pump motor isn't failing, the inside of the pump ends up freezing loosing the ability to spin.Any suggestions as to why?: that's a vague description of the pump. theres several types of pumps too. you need to either shield the pump, or move it to a different location, so its nots moist and damp all the time. drop a sand point down to the well, seal the well from the pump , or buy a different type. call a well service and ask them your options. good luck man! gee, that must get expensive.

Q: vw tells me the pump is defective, bad water circulation. i noticed the fans did not turn on when it began to overheat. is that irrelevant with the pump being defective? i even drop the car cold(i started the engine and drove) within 10mins it began to overheat, but the fans did not turn on. is it just the pump? the fan switch is new, no fuses are blown. the radiator and fans are less than 2 yrs old. 2000 jetta: take the car to another mechanic as it sounds like the VW dealership doesn't know what there talking about.

Q: i have a water leak near the water pump in my 1990 cadillac deville i replaced the water pump but it was remanufactured and a pipe on the back of the water pump can it be a heater core or should i buy a brand new one p.s. water leaks after it passes the radiator: The 1990 cadillac water pumps were big old things. They took up most of the front of the engine and GM left very little room to get to the bolts. One problem you could be having is bolt placement. Not only were there about 15 bolts holding the pump on, but they were also all different lengths. If you do not put them back in the right order you can end up cracking the new water pump housing, or leaving a gap between the pump and the bolt head where water can leak out of. Check that.

Q: I have some black RTV silicone that I got with a gasket for my oil pan. Can I use some on a gasket for a water pump instead of regular sealant or is there a particular type I need? If there is a certain or preferred type please give me a link to it at like autozone or something, thanks!: there are a few color gaskets such as red, blue, orange and black. If you have black you pretty much can use black on any part or gasket that needs replacing so you are fine using your black rtv on your water pump. Black and red are the best rtv and can replace anything an orange or blue gasket can do and more.

Q: I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out why? Problems started when our car overheated due to neglecting to refill the coolant a while back. The coolant tank got cracks in it and we had to replace it- but now the water pump is leaking, says my husband- should we just replace the water pump or could this be a bigger problem? Change the water pump a.s.a.p.
