- Q: got a subaru outback 97, 174k is great all round except for is making whump whump noise that gets faster as car speeds up, squealing noise coming from wheels not assciated with braking or acceleration. it gets wobbly if the car gets to 70mph and when you reverse it makes a grinding noise. also in low gear it clatters from the engine somewhere, but stops doing that as soon as car is going and warmed up.anyone know whats happening, how much do you think it'll cost to fix if you do?thanks,
- You have enough going on that the only useful answer needs to come from a good mechanic that inspects the car and gives it a test drive. The bearings are an easy check. Bad ones make a nice consistent noise when you give the tire a spin on the lift. At 174k, you're due. Before you have any work done, get the mechanic's estimate on bearings and whatever else is giving you whump, squeal, wobble, grind, and clatter. You may decide to say bye bye and think about a new or newer Subaru.
- Q: i have a small amount of play in both of the front wheel bearings and i just want to know if i can go without buying all new wheel bearings.
- Those are sealed you will need to replace them
- Q: ok, the vegetable oil part was dumb....but i heard u can soak them in alcohol...but how do i re-grease them?
- let okorder / ... and if you ever need tip tricks or a tip trick video you can message him...
- Q: I own a pair of Mission Axiom A.3 roller hockey blades and it says on their website that all the wheels are MISSION CSX indoor/outdoor 78A but when i look at the wheels on the skates, they say they are all different sizes, unfortunately i am not at home so i can not tell you which sizes they are.The mission website also says that the bearings are MISSION ABEC 5 but i don't see any websites that sell those bearings so what other kind is the best and fastest kinds of bearings to buy?I just started getting into roller blading/roller hockey im not really playing roller hockey but i go skating a lot and like to go really fast so i don't really know a whole lot about skates but would like to learn what kind of wheels/bearings i should buy, thanks for any help.
- ABEC okorder staff are quite knowlegable.
- Q: I have seen two different types of spacers and can;t seem to find much on the net about the differences between them. One type just goes in between the two bearings and the other type has a smaller end that goes into each bearing. My question is simply whats the difference between the two and whats better? (Inline skate/hockey/general question)
- The difference is the axle diameter that they are for. If you measure the bearing, the opening is 8mm (5/16) Better skates come with 8mm axles and cheaper ones with 6mm axles (1/4) Since 8mm axles fit the inside of the bearings the spacers just take up the space on the axle between them. The spacers for 6mm axles have to have the small ends extending into the bearings to make up for the gap between the axle and the bearing.
- Q: I have a 1992 Camaro RS, LO3 305 TBI V8, Automatic, 125k miles. It had the oil changed awhile ago, not sure what they put in it, but when I picked it up, the engine was ticking (sounded like a lifter or failing oil pump). I've driven it a few thousand miles and it runs good and strong, but I've always noticed that the oil pressure guage reads low, between 5-25 psi. I'm concerned my bearings are shot. It normally starts up at 25psi and after driving 10-20 minutes, it reads 5-10 psi, and the ticking becomes slower. The engine never kills though. Could it just be a case of a bad sending unit, with to light of a weight of oil, or bad bearings? What are some common signs of bad bearing? The motor does not knock.
- if your bearings are bad your engine would be knocking and would soon stop. it sounds like your bearings are worn which would give you low oil pressure. I would run the oil made for older engines that have wear like yours.and by the way try not to beat it to much it'll last a little longer
- Q: Slight play is felt both front wheels with wheels off the ground. 99 Buick Park Avenue.
- Their should be none, if there is you are in danger
- Q: My front driver's side wheel bearings need replaced. The current wheel bearings are open (visible when the hub is removed). When I look for replacement parts, OES and otherwise, the bearings offered are enclosed/canister style. This looks like it won't mate up properly with the existing hub. The auto parts store suggested removing the ring from the hub to make the new bearings fit. I'm concerned that doing so will irreparably damage the hub. To complicate things even more, it looks like the only style of hub available- OES included- are the type that work with the open bearings. Suggestions? Anyone ever had to modify a wheel hub? Advice is appreciated.
- I okorder /.. okorder replacing both at the same time is also a good idea.
- Q: Alright, I don't know if it would be a good Idea to put the Water shield repelling coat spray that you put on shoes, on Longboard bearings. Since I ride my longboard constantly, and I really would like to ride it in the rain. As much as I want to do that, I don't want to get my bearings rusty or at risk from them being rusty. So I was thinking if you could put water repellent spray on my bearings.
- That may me very bad for your bearings. Anything applied to bearings other than official skate bearing lubricants will damage your bearings. It may clog or mix in with the lubricants already in your bearings, which will cause it to slow down/not perform at its best.
- Q: i have an eastern ramrodder 2009, the bearings are getting very stiff and pop and bang. i need replacements. i need to know the type and size of my bike. and a place i can get replacements.
- You get bearings. Bearings are one of the only part of the bike that actually do follow a mostly industry standard. Unless you're one of those roadie freaks who wants ceramic bearings, just go to your LBS to get replacements. Specify if they're for the headset or for the hubs or the bottom bracket, and the shop will send you on your merry way with the right ones.
